Unplug the cable, hold your Samsung phone with the charging port facing down, and gently shake out any droplets. Wipe the outside with a soft, clean cloth, then leave the phone in a dry, ventilated place with cool air. Do not charge through the port until it is completely dry and the moisture warning has cleared.
What to do when moisture is detected
- Disconnect wired power. If a cable is plugged in, unplug it. Samsung stops charging when it detects moisture to help prevent damage and corrosion. Keep wet hands away from the phone, cable, and charger. See Samsung’s moisture guidance.
- Gently shake out droplets. Hold the phone so its charging port points down and give it a few gentle shakes. Samsung Philippines suggests five to ten; do not shake forcefully. See Samsung Philippines’ water-drop guidance.
- Wipe the exterior. Use a soft, clean cloth to dry the outside of the phone. Keep the cloth out of the port. Samsung warns: “Do not insert any object into the charging port.” That includes cotton swabs, tissue, pins, and other improvised tools.
- Let the phone air-dry. Place it in a dry, well-ventilated area and allow cool air to circulate. A fan can help move air around it. Do not use heat or force air into the port.
- Wait until the port is dry. Reconnect a cable only after the port is completely dry and the warning has cleared. Samsung UK estimates that water may evaporate naturally in about one to two hours, while Samsung India says drying may take several hours. These are estimates, not a guaranteed wait time: conditions and the amount of moisture vary. See Samsung UK’s guidance and Samsung India’s moisture tips.
Can you charge the phone while it dries?
Do not use wired charging while the port is wet or the moisture warning remains. Water resistance does not make it safe to charge through a wet port.

If your Galaxy model supports wireless charging, Samsung says moisture in the charging port does not prevent it. The phone itself must be thoroughly dry before you place it on a wireless charger. Wireless charging is not available on every Samsung phone, so check your model’s specifications or manual before relying on it.
What if the water-drop icon appears when the phone seems dry?
High humidity can trigger a moisture warning even without direct contact with liquid. Follow the same process: disconnect any cable, dry the exterior, and leave the phone somewhere ventilated until the alert clears. Samsung’s charging troubleshooting guidance also addresses cases where a Galaxy device charges slowly or does not charge.

What if something other than fresh water entered the port?
Samsung’s US and UK guidance says to rinse a water-resistant device with fresh water after exposure to liquid other than fresh water, then dry it thoroughly with a soft cloth. Do not assume this applies to every phone or tablet: if you do not know whether your specific model is water-resistant, check its model-specific instructions before rinsing it.

If the moisture warning or charging problem continues after the phone has had time to dry, contact Samsung support or arrange a service inspection. Do not try to remove moisture by inserting tools or cleaning materials into the port.
