Each code works once.
Find backup codes on a Galaxy phone or tablet
- Open Settings.
- Tap Security and privacy.
- Open Account security, then Samsung account security.
- Tap Two-step verification and complete any authentication prompt.
- Choose Backup codes. View the codes and save or download them securely if that option appears.
Samsung also documents a route through the Samsung Account profile at the top of Settings: open the profile, then go to Security and privacy > Two-step verification. Menu names and organization can vary with device and software version. If the listed path does not match your screen, look in the Samsung Account profile for Security and privacy or Two-step verification. Find them from a web browser
- Sign in to your Samsung Account on the Samsung Account website.
- Open the Security tab and complete any password or verification check requested.
- Under Password and security, select Two-step verification.
- Open Backup codes to view, download, or request a new set if the option is available.
This route requires enough account access to reach security settings. Samsung’s instructions do not provide a way to retrieve codes without signing in. If you cannot authenticate, try another verification method or an already signed-in Galaxy device; if neither is available, contact Samsung Support.

Use a backup code at sign-in
At the two-step verification prompt, choose the option to use a backup code and enter one saved code for that Samsung Account. Samsung states that “Each backup code can only be used once.” After a code has been used, it cannot be used for another sign-in. Samsung US Support

If a code is missing or rejected
- Check the account: Make sure the code belongs to the Samsung Account you are signing in to.
- Check whether it was used: A previously used code is no longer valid.
- Try another verification method: Samsung describes text messages, Galaxy device notifications, and an authenticator app as alternatives. A working option may let you sign in and reach the backup-code settings.
- Use a signed-in device or browser: If you can access another Galaxy device already signed in to the account, check its Two-step verification settings. Otherwise, try the browser route if you can complete authentication.
- Contact Samsung Support: If you cannot authenticate by any available method, use Samsung’s support route rather than assuming the codes can be recovered without account access.
Save codes before you need them
Once you can access Two-step verification, Samsung’s account-management guidance allows you to view or download backup codes, or request new ones. Save the current set somewhere secure and accessible if your usual verification method is unavailable. Samsung’s account-management guide covers backup codes, authenticator apps, and trusted devices. Samsung notes that available options can differ by device, software version, website, account configuration, and security preferences; codes need to be generated and saved in advance.
