There is no universal Samsung-versus-Google winner: which apps make sense depends on what you need to do, where you rely on sync, and which Galaxy phone and software version you use. Samsung’s apps are built into the Galaxy experience, but that alone does not make them a better fit for every user.
The headline’s claim that only two apps earned a permanent place is a personal-trial result. Without the author’s device, One UI version, region, trial period, and the names of those two apps, it would be misleading to invent the keepers or present an unverified experiment as fact. Here is what can be established—and a practical way to make the choice on your own Galaxy phone.

What “Samsung apps versus Google apps” really means
Galaxy phones and tablets include Samsung apps, and Samsung’s services directory includes options such as Samsung Health, Wallet, Notes, Browser, Galaxy Store, and Samsung DeX. Samsung describes these as part of its device ecosystem, not as a single all-or-nothing replacement for Google services. Some Samsung apps are also available on tablets, but availability and screens can vary by device, carrier, software version, country, and region. Samsung’s One UI 8 announcement, for example, describes Circle to Search with Google as part of the Galaxy software experience. The choice is often about which app fits a particular workflow—not choosing one company’s entire ecosystem. Samsung announced the One UI 8 rollout on September 15, 2025, with the rollout beginning that week on the Galaxy S25 series and planned expansion to eligible models. That announcement is a dated rollout notice, not a guarantee that every listed feature or update is available on every Galaxy phone today.

Where Samsung’s apps may fit
Samsung’s own descriptions illustrate the variety of tasks its apps cover. These are vendor descriptions, not independent findings that an app performs better than its Google counterpart.
- Health: Samsung describes Samsung Health as supporting activity and meal tracking. Its support information also covers health tracking through the app. A Galaxy wearable may connect to a phone or tablet through Galaxy Wearable, but the available sources do not establish that a watch is necessary for using Health or for any particular workflow. - Wallet: Samsung lists Wallet among its services for cards and other wallet functions. Which functions are available can depend on country, device, and other service requirements; check the app and local availability rather than assuming feature parity across regions. Samsung’s service directory notes that availability can vary.
- Notes and Browser: Samsung offers Samsung Notes and Samsung Internet. A Samsung feature page describes Note Assist features such as formatting, summarizing, correcting, translating, and generating covers, and Browsing Assist features for summarizing and translating webpages. That page covers One UI 6-era features; it should not be read as proof that those functions are present on every device or current software version. Samsung’s One UI 6 feature descriptions are version-specific.
- Members and Secure Folder: Samsung describes Members as a place for support and diagnostics and Secure Folder as a way to protect files. Whether either is useful depends on your needs and the version and availability on your device. Samsung’s support page describes its apps and device caveats.
- Galaxy Store and DeX: Samsung also lists Galaxy Store and Samsung DeX among its services. The store provides access to Samsung apps and other content; Samsung DeX is part of the company’s device ecosystem. Check device compatibility and current availability before relying on a particular feature. Samsung’s Galaxy Store page provides information about its store.
How to decide what to keep
Compare the apps you actually use for the same job on the same phone. A feature list alone cannot tell you whether an app will fit your routine, and a preference on one Galaxy model or software version does not establish a universal winner.

- Choose a real task. Pick one you do regularly, such as taking notes, browsing, tracking activity, or managing cards. Avoid switching several categories at once if you want to notice whether a habit changes.
- Check the current setup. Confirm the app is available for your model, region, and software version. Samsung says features and settings may vary by device, carrier, software version, country, and region. Record the exact phone and One UI version if you are comparing results with someone else.
- Try the Samsung app alongside your existing workflow. Use it for the task you selected and note what it requires: an account, a connection to another device, or a particular Samsung service. Check whether you can access the same information from the other devices and services you depend on.
- Compare the friction, not just the features. Ask whether the app makes the task easier to complete, whether you can find and retrieve what you save, and whether the switch disrupts a routine. Do not assume a feature listed on a Samsung page is available on your phone without checking its version and regional qualifications.
- Keep only what changes your routine for the better. If the Samsung app does not offer a meaningful advantage for your use, continuing with your current app is a reasonable outcome. Repeat the same process for another category rather than treating one result as a verdict on the whole ecosystem.
Why a single “winner” can mislead
App availability is not uniform. Samsung says that device, software, carrier, network, account, country, and region can affect which services or functions are available. A comparison that leaves out those details may not apply to another Galaxy owner. For software context, Samsung’s One UI 8 rollout announcement dates to September 15, 2025; its eligibility and rollout details are not a live guarantee of current support. Check the announcement alongside the software actually installed on your phone.
Version labels matter for individual features too. Samsung’s One UI 6 page describes examples such as Note Assist and Browsing Assist, but those descriptions cannot establish what a later or earlier software version offers on a particular device. Use the page as a One UI 6-era reference, then verify current app and device support.

Finally, preference is not proof of superiority. Whether an app suits you depends on its task, account and sync needs, compatibility with your other devices, and whether you actually use it. The available Samsung descriptions do not establish that Samsung apps universally outperform Google apps in privacy, speed, reliability, or quality.
