Samsung’s group-chat summaries can take longer to appear than one-to-one summaries: its US troubleshooting guidance says the feature checks group-chat notifications for at least nine minutes, compared with three minutes for one-to-one chats. That timing is a condition to check—not proof that a particular phone or chat is broken. Samsung also lists message length, supported apps, screen state, battery charge, and Power saving as factors.
What Samsung’s notification summaries do
Samsung calls the feature Notification highlights. It includes two separate controls: notification prioritization and summaries of conversational notifications. Summaries are intended to help users catch key details without opening each notification.

Samsung’s US support page says summaries use notification history from the prior 24 hours. Its Canada Galaxy S26 guide describes AI-generated summaries based on unread notifications. Those descriptions are not identical, so the precise behavior may depend on device and software version.

Samsung’s current US troubleshooting guidance specifies Galaxy phones running One UI 8.5 or later, including the Galaxy S26 series and newer models. This is Samsung’s US support statement, not a complete worldwide compatibility list; supported features and menus can vary by model, software, app version, and region. Why a group chat may not produce a summary
Samsung’s troubleshooting page identifies several conditions. Its timing and character thresholds are minimums or eligibility clues, not a guarantee that a summary will appear as soon as they are met.

Samsung does not say that meeting these conditions guarantees a summary. Treat them as a troubleshooting sequence, not a promise of output. The exact thresholds are from Samsung US Support; the page reviewed does not show a publication date.

Check settings and app eligibility
Find the controls
- Open Settings and look for Galaxy AI > Notification highlights, the path in Samsung’s US instructions.
- On Samsung Canada’s Galaxy S26 guide, the path is Settings > Notifications > Notification highlights.
- If neither path matches your phone, search Settings for Notification highlights. Samsung says menu names and paths can vary.
- Check that summaries are enabled for the relevant app. Samsung allows prioritization and summaries to be controlled individually for each app; enabling prioritization alone is not the same as enabling summaries.
Confirm the app is listed
Samsung’s current US list includes WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, Google Messages, WhatsApp Business, Snapchat, Telegram, Samsung Messages, Zalo, Rakuten Viber Messenger, imo, Discord, MAX, KakaoTalk, WeChat, Signal, imo HD, Zangi, Plus Messenger, imo beta, aka, imo Lite, MiChat, Telegram X, Zello PTT Walkie Talkie, Messenger Kids, Graph Messenger, VK Messenger, Bip, GroupMe, Azar, Teams, TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, QQ, and Visual Voicemail. Samsung notes that app support can change; check the current list rather than assuming an unlisted app is eligible.

Samsung lists English, Portuguese, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Thai, Polish, Vietnamese, and Hindi. Its US page says prioritization applies only in the phone’s system language, while the Canada Galaxy S26 guide says summaries support the same languages as the system language. Samsung’s Canada guide is specific to the Galaxy S26 series; support can vary by device and software.

A practical troubleshooting order
- Confirm eligibility: Check your phone’s model and software support, then verify the messaging app and language against Samsung’s current guidance.
- Enable summaries for that app: Open Notification highlights in Settings and check the app-level summary control, not only prioritization.
- Allow the documented wait: For a group chat, wait at least nine minutes after notifications arrive; for a one-to-one conversation, Samsung’s threshold is three minutes.
- Check the notification text: A notification under 200 characters may not be summarized.
- Meet the operating conditions: Turn the screen off, ensure the phone is at least 30% charged, and check that Power saving is off.
- Recheck after a new notification: If a summary still does not appear, the published conditions do not identify the cause. Samsung’s guidance does not promise a summary in every eligible case.
Accuracy and privacy limits
Samsung warns: “Summaries may not always be accurate.” Open the original message before acting on a consequential detail such as a time, address, request, or decision. Samsung’s reviewed official pages do not provide a measured accuracy rate or a dated quantitative accuracy study, so there is no substantiated percentage to use as a reliability score.
Samsung says data used for prioritization is processed securely on-device on its US support page; its Canada Galaxy S26 guide says data used for the feature is processed only on-device. Those statements apply to the described feature and should not be generalized into a privacy claim about every Galaxy AI capability.

What Samsung’s guidance can—and cannot—establish
The nine-minute group-chat threshold gives a concrete first check when a summary is delayed. It does not establish that group chats are universally broken, nor can it explain an individual failure without details about the phone, software build, app, notification, and conditions. Samsung’s published guidance supports a careful distinction: a missing summary may reflect an unmet condition, but the thresholds alone cannot diagnose a specific device.
