Salesforce Agentforce vs. Einstein: Features, Use Cases, and Pricing (2026)

Agentforce is Salesforce’s action-oriented AI agent family; Einstein is the broader AI portfolio. Compare capabilities, bots, use cases, licenses, and 2026 public pricing.

Agentforce and Einstein are not two equivalent Salesforce products. Einstein is the umbrella name for Salesforce AI capabilities, including predictive features, generative assistance, Conversation Insights, and Einstein Bots. Agentforce is the agent-focused product family built on Salesforce AI: its agents interpret a request, use context, and call configured actions to complete work.

Choose by the job you need done. Use an Einstein predictive feature for scoring or forecasting, Einstein assistance for a draft or summary, an Einstein Bot for a tightly scripted conversation, and Agentforce when an AI agent must reason through a request and perform one or more governed steps. The products can coexist, and the correct license and cost depend on the specific feature, edition, channel, and usage meter.

The short answer: compare the job, not the brand

Salesforce uses Einstein as a broad AI brand across its clouds and platform. That label can refer to very different things: a lead-score model, a forecast, a generated email, a conversation summary, or a scripted bot. Agentforce is narrower in purpose. It denotes agents that use large-language-model reasoning, conversation context, subagents, and actions to work through a request.

That distinction changes the buying decision. A sales manager who wants a risk signal on an opportunity is evaluating a predictive Einstein capability, not an autonomous agent. A service team that wants a concise case summary is evaluating embedded AI assistance, although an Agentforce agent could also provide that summary inside a larger workflow. A support team that must force every customer through the same eligibility questions may prefer an Einstein Bot. A team that wants an assistant to understand a natural-language request, retrieve relevant context, and update records through approved actions is evaluating Agentforce.

Salesforce documentation does not describe Agentforce as a wholesale replacement for Einstein. It describes Agentforce as a standalone product built on the Einstein Platform. In practice, an organization may use all of these capabilities at once, with different controls and meters.

What Salesforce means by Einstein and Agentforce

Einstein is an umbrella for several AI categories

Einstein is the name Salesforce applies to machine-learning and generative features embedded across products. Salesforce’s May 2026 license notice lists examples such as Sales Cloud Einstein and Einstein for Platform. The same notice identifies specific features, including Lead Scoring, Einstein Forecasting, Opportunity Insights, Einstein Conversation Insights, and other embedded assistance.

Because the label spans multiple products, the question “How much does Einstein cost?” has no single answer. A buyer must identify the exact capability, the Salesforce edition, required add-ons, and whether use is included in an existing subscription or metered separately. Availability can also vary by cloud, suite, channel, and rollout.

Agentforce is the agent-focused family

Agentforce agents are designed for context-rich interactions in which the system interprets intent and takes configured steps. Salesforce describes agents as using LLM-based reasoning, subagents, and actions. An action can be a permitted operation in Salesforce or an approved connected process. The agent’s useful distinction is not that it can write a paragraph; generative Einstein assistance can do that too. The distinction is that an Agentforce agent can use the paragraph as one part of a broader, action-oriented task.

Agentforce still depends on the same foundations that govern other Salesforce AI: data access, permissions, configuration, testing, and governance. “Agentic” does not mean unrestricted access or guaranteed autonomy. The organization decides which data and actions are available, in which channels, and under what license.

Feature comparison at a glance

Business need Relevant capability What it does Main trade-off
Predict a sales outcome or surface risk Einstein Lead Scoring, Einstein Forecasting, Opportunity Insights Provides named predictive signals and sales insights. These are predictive features, not autonomous agents. Confirm edition and license availability.
Draft or summarize content Einstein generative assistance; Agentforce can also assist in a workflow Produces summaries, suggested actions, or drafted content from available context. An answer or draft is assistive; it is not the same as completing a multi-step process. Prompt usage may be metered differently from agent actions.
Interpret a request and perform configured steps Agentforce agents, subagents, and actions Uses conversation context and reasoning to select approved actions and work through a task. Requires deliberate design of permissions, data, actions, channels, testing, governance, and consumption.
Run a deterministic customer conversation Einstein Bots Follows predefined dialogs and scripted responses. More predictable and constrained, but less flexible when a conversation departs from the designed path.
Analyze sales calls Einstein Conversation Insights Provides conversation-analysis functionality listed among Salesforce Einstein features. A 2026 Salesforce release page identifies availability in Starter and Pro Suite subject to the described video-provider setup; verify current edition details before purchase.

The practical comparison therefore has six dimensions: autonomy, predictability, task complexity, access to data and workflows, channel and edition availability, and the billing meter. A feature that looks similar in a demo can have a different license or consumption model in production.

How an Agentforce request works

1. The user supplies an intent

An interaction can start as a natural-language request from an employee or customer. The agent considers the conversation and the Salesforce context made available to it. This is broader than selecting a single scripted menu option, but the resulting behavior is still bounded by the agent’s configuration and permissions.

2. The agent reasons about the task

The reasoning engine determines what the request is asking for and which configured subagent or action is relevant. A request might require more than one step, such as gathering record details, checking an allowed condition, and then updating a record or presenting a response. The agent does not automatically gain permission to perform those operations; each action must be designed and authorized.

3. Actions execute within Salesforce controls

Actions are the operational boundary. They define what the agent can do, what data it can use, and what result it returns. Permissions, data security, channel rules, and testing are therefore part of the product design, not post-launch housekeeping.

4. Usage is metered

Salesforce separates agentic action usage from prompt-based embedded AI usage. Usage types are converted to Flex Credits according to the Agentforce rate card, or billed through another selected model such as conversations or a user license. The same natural-language experience can therefore produce different costs depending on which capability and meter are involved.

Which capability fits common use cases?

Sales prediction and pipeline risk

If the requirement is a probability, score, forecast, or surfaced opportunity risk, start with the named Einstein predictive feature that supports that outcome. A predictive model can be the right answer even when no person wants an AI system changing records or orchestrating tasks. Confirm the feature’s entitlement in the organization’s edition and sales licenses.

Summaries, drafts, and suggested next steps

Einstein generative assistance is appropriate when a person remains the decision-maker and needs help producing or understanding content. Examples include summarizing a case, drafting a response, or suggesting an action. Agentforce can provide the same kind of assistance inside an agent flow, but adding actions and multi-step reasoning introduces additional design and consumption considerations.

Routine service inquiries

There are two valid patterns. An Einstein Bot fits a narrow, repeatable flow in which predictable wording and deterministic branching matter more than open-ended interpretation. An Agentforce Service Agent fits a service experience that must understand varied language, use context, and invoke approved actions. The latter requires stronger attention to permissions, escalation behavior, testing, and usage forecasting.

Employee workflow assistance

An employee-facing agent can help with routine requests when the organization wants the system to interpret intent and complete configured work rather than merely display an answer. Salesforce’s service pricing page describes an unmetered employee agent in the Agentforce for Service package, but the package and eligibility must be checked against the current contract and organization setup.

Sales-call analysis

Einstein Conversation Insights is a distinct Einstein capability rather than a synonym for Agentforce. Salesforce’s 2026 release information says it is available in Starter and Pro Suite subject to the specified video-provider setup. Treat that as an edition- and configuration-dependent statement, not a universal entitlement.

Einstein Bots versus Agentforce Service Agent

Salesforce’s own distinction is straightforward: Einstein Bots use predefined dialogs and scripted responses, while Agentforce Service Agents use an LLM and reasoning engine with natural-language subagents and actions.

Dimension Einstein Bots Agentforce Service Agent
Conversation style Scripted dialogs and predefined responses Natural-language interaction using context and reasoning
Best fit Highly specific, deterministic flows Requests that vary in wording or require several approved steps
Control model Constrained paths are easier to predict Action boundaries, permissions, testing, and governance are essential
Billing approach described by Salesforce Help Monthly engaged-session allowance Consumption-based; usage can consume Einstein Requests and Data 360 credits depending on type
Availability Depends on edition and channel Depends on edition, channel, add-ons, and selected package

Salesforce Help summarizes the bot model this way: “Einstein Bots use predefined rules and scripted responses to navigate conversations.” That predictability is an advantage when compliance or process consistency requires a fixed route. Agentforce is the better conceptual fit when the business value comes from interpreting context and taking actions, but it is not automatically the safer or cheaper option.

Agentforce pricing and what each public number means

The following U.S. dollar figures were shown on Salesforce public pricing pages accessed October 13, 2026. They are list-price statements, not a guaranteed quote. Salesforce says pricing is informational and subject to change; confirm regional pricing, edition availability, contract terms, and organization-specific entitlements before buying.

Public option Published price How to interpret it
Flex Credits consumption $500 per 100,000 Flex Credits Credits pay for metered actions. The amount consumed depends on the usage type and the Agentforce rate-card calculation.
Conversations $2 per conversation A conversation-based meter; it is not interchangeable with Flex Credits or a user subscription.
Salesforce Foundations $0 Salesforce presents this as a way to get started with Agentforce Builder and related tools. The free entry point does not establish that every production deployment or usage volume is free.
Agentforce User License $5 per user per month Salesforce says this license requires Flex Credits. The user fee and consumption charges are separate considerations.
Public editions offer From $550 per user per month The pricing page shows an Agentforce add-on and 2.75 million Flex Credits per organization per year. This is an edition-level package, not a like-for-like quote for every deployment.
Agentforce for Service $125 per user per month, billed annually Salesforce’s Customer Service AI page describes an unmetered employee agent as included in this package. Verify the exact package, user definition, and other usage entitlements in the quote.

Why these prices cannot be added into one simple total

The figures represent different commercial models. A Flex Credit purchase is consumption capacity. A conversation price counts conversations. A user license assigns access to users and, in the published Agentforce case, still requires Flex Credits. An edition package combines a broader subscription with included usage. The Agentforce for Service figure is a service-oriented package billed annually. Comparing the numbers without matching the model, users, channels, and expected actions produces a misleading result.

How to estimate the cost for your organization

  1. Identify the exact capability. Write down whether the project uses predictive Einstein, generative assistance, an Einstein Bot, an Agentforce employee agent, an Agentforce customer-facing agent, or more than one.
  2. Record the current Salesforce estate. Note the edition, cloud, user licenses, channels, existing add-ons, and any included AI or Data 360 entitlements.
  3. Describe the workload. Estimate users, conversations, prompts, and actions. For an agent, list the actions in a typical request and the percentage of requests that need each action.
  4. Separate employee and customer use. Salesforce packages and channel availability can differ between an internal employee agent and a customer-facing service agent.
  5. Apply the correct meter. Determine whether usage is billed as Flex Credits, conversations, Einstein Requests, Data 360 credits, a user-plus-consumption combination, or a package with included usage.
  6. Check included quantities and overage terms. The 2.75 million Flex Credits shown with one public editions offer and the unmetered employee-agent description for Agentforce for Service are package-specific statements, not universal allowances.
  7. Request an organization-specific quote. Salesforce’s project guidance says licensing varies by use case. The final total remains unresolved until the selected deployment, entitlements, contract, and regional terms are known.

Implementation requirements before turning on an agent

Define the outcome and the boundary

Start with a measurable task, such as resolving a defined class of inquiry, preparing a case summary, or updating a record after a verified request. Decide which decisions remain with a person and which actions the agent may execute. A vague goal such as “automate support” makes permissions, testing, and cost impossible to scope accurately.

Map data and permissions

List the records, fields, knowledge, and connected systems the agent needs. Then map the permissions that should apply to each action. An agent should not receive broad access merely because a user can see a screen; the allowed data and operations need to match the use case and channel.

Design actions and escalation

Break the workflow into explicit actions with clear inputs and outputs. Decide what happens when required information is missing, an action fails, or the request falls outside the supported scope. Provide a human handoff for cases that require judgment or exceed the agent’s authority.

Test realistic conversations

Test normal requests, ambiguous wording, incomplete records, conflicting instructions, permission failures, and attempts to trigger unsupported actions. Record which steps consume usage so the forecast reflects real conversations rather than a demonstration path.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Plan governance and monitoring

Assign ownership for prompt and action changes, review logs and outcomes, and monitor consumption against the selected meter. Recheck licenses and channel entitlements when the scope expands. Salesforce’s project guidance treats requirements as use-case-specific, so governance should continue after launch.

Common decision mistakes and how to correct them

Mistake: treating Einstein as one product

Correction: Name the exact Einstein capability first. Lead Scoring, Forecasting, Conversation Insights, generative assistance, and Einstein Bots have different functions and may have different packaging.

Mistake: calling every generated answer an agent

Correction: Ask whether the system only drafts or summarizes, or whether it interprets a request and executes configured actions. The latter is the Agentforce use case.

Mistake: choosing an agent for a process that must never vary

Correction: Evaluate an Einstein Bot when predefined dialogs and scripted responses provide the required control. Use Agentforce when natural-language flexibility and action-oriented work justify the additional design.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Mistake: assuming the $0 entry point means a free deployment

Correction: Treat Salesforce Foundations as an entry point. Confirm production entitlements, usage limits, required licenses, channels, and any paid consumption in the specific organization.

Mistake: comparing prices without comparing meters

Correction: Put users, conversations, prompts, actions, included credits, and contract duration in the same cost model. A per-conversation price cannot be compared directly with a Flex Credit bundle or an annual per-user package.

Mistake: assuming availability is universal

Correction: Check the edition, cloud, channel, provider configuration, add-ons, and region. Conversation Insights, Bots, and Agentforce packages can have different availability rules.

Is Agentforce replacing Einstein?

No. Salesforce positions Agentforce as an agent-focused product built on the Einstein Platform, while Einstein remains the broader AI brand. Predictive features, generative assistance, Conversation Insights, and Einstein Bots continue to answer different problems. An organization may use a predictive score to prioritize work, an Einstein summary to brief an employee, an Einstein Bot for a fixed intake flow, and an Agentforce agent for a multi-step request.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The practical question is therefore not which brand wins. It is which capability should own each step of the customer or employee journey, what level of autonomy is justified, and how that capability is licensed and metered.

A practical selection framework

  1. Need a prediction or risk signal? Start with the relevant Einstein predictive feature.
  2. Need a draft, summary, or recommendation for a person to review? Start with Einstein generative assistance.
  3. Need a fixed, auditable dialog? Evaluate an Einstein Bot.
  4. Need natural-language interpretation plus approved actions? Evaluate Agentforce.
  5. Need several of these? Combine them, but map each capability to its own license, channel, permissions, and usage meter.

Bottom line

Agentforce is the Salesforce choice for governed, action-oriented agents; Einstein is the wider portfolio that also includes prediction, assistance, Conversation Insights, and scripted bots. Select the smallest capability that solves the job, then validate edition, channel, permissions, included usage, and the applicable billing model. The public prices available in October 2026 are useful planning references, but only an organization-specific Salesforce quote can establish the final cost.
