Oji Hiroi says he came up with a plot concept for a possible Sakura Wars 6, including a character named Black Swan who is in cold sleep. That is not an announcement that Sega has approved or begun making the game. In an interview reported by RPG Site and Gematsu, Hiroi said the idea came up amid discussions about a possible next title; he would develop it further if asked to help make a prototype.
What Hiroi has said about Sakura Wars 6
Hiroi, the creator of Sakura Wars, said he had devised a plot for a potential sixth game. Gematsu quotes him as saying, “I only came up with the plot for 6 because there had been discussions about making the next game.” The remark describes an idea prompted by those discussions, not a formal project announcement.

RPG Site characterizes the concept as a direct sequel to Sakura Wars V: So Long, My Love. That connection is how the outlet describes the concept; the interview excerpts do not establish that a sequel has been approved or that a complete script exists.

What is known about the plot
Black Swan and cold sleep
The one specific story detail Hiroi disclosed is a character named Black Swan, who is in cold sleep—also rendered as “cryogenic hibernation” in Gematsu’s translation. Hiroi called her “a good character.” The reports do not provide further plot details, a cast list, or an explanation of Black Swan’s role.

The hypothetical title
Asked whether a potential sixth entry would use “6” or “VI,” Hiroi said it would be “6.” This was a conditional comment about a hypothetical game, not confirmation of an official title.
Is Sakura Wars 6 in development?
The reports do not say that Sega has greenlit Sakura Wars 6 or that development is underway. Hiroi said he would think about the concept if asked to work together on a game prototype with a team in place and compensation arranged. RPG Site published his conditional response as: “That’s why I’ll think about it when I get told ‘We’ve decided to create a prototype (for a game) so let’s do it together.’” That wording is RPG Site’s translation of the interview, not an independently checked quotation from the Japanese magazine.

Other Sakura Wars comments are separate from this concept
In the same anniversary coverage, Sega producer Akira Nishino said the company wants to bring the original games through Sakura Wars V to modern platforms, while citing unspecified circumstances that make progress difficult. No ports, platforms, or schedule were announced.

Nishino also described having a vision for how New Sakura Wars (2019) could continue through its conclusion, without confirming a sequel or explaining how that vision might be realized. Scenario writer Satoru Akahori said he had recently become “just a little involved” with something related to the franchise but could not yet discuss it. Neither comment confirms work on Sakura Wars 6.
RPG Site also reports that Nishino and Takaharu Terada discussed involving younger staff so they can inherit the series’ core ideas. The interview reportedly described annual proposals for franchise projects, including a stage production and the now-defunct mobile game Sakura Revolution. Those broader comments provide franchise context, not evidence that Hiroi’s sixth-game concept has advanced into production.
