Safari vs. Chrome for Full-Page Website Screenshots on iPhone

Safari is the documented choice for full-page webpage screenshots on iPhone. Here’s how its Full Page control works and what Chrome’s help pages establish.

Use Safari if you want an officially documented way to capture an entire webpage on iPhone: take a screenshot, tap Full Page, then save the result as an image in Photos or a PDF in Files. Google’s reviewed Chrome help pages explain sharing and printing, but do not document an equivalent full-page screenshot workflow. That gap is not proof Chrome can never show the iPhone’s Full Page control.

Safari vs. Chrome: what’s documented

Question Safari Chrome
Is a full-page screenshot workflow documented by the browser/platform maker? Yes. Apple documents using the screenshot preview’s Full Page control for an entire webpage in Safari. Apple’s iPhone screenshot guide Not in the reviewed Chrome help pages. Google’s pages cover setup, sharing and AirPrint printing, not an equivalent full-page screenshot command. Chrome setup, sharing pages, printing
Documented output Image saved to Photos or PDF saved to Files. The reviewed print instructions describe printing with AirPrint, not saving a full-page screenshot.
Evidence and scope Apple describes the iPhone screenshot procedure. The absence of instructions in the reviewed pages does not establish that the iOS screenshot preview never offers Full Page in Chrome. No independent device test is claimed here.

For a dependable, documented native workflow, choose Safari. If you browse in Chrome, you can try the iPhone screenshot preview yourself, but the reviewed official documentation does not establish that Full Page will appear for a Chrome page.

How to take a full-page screenshot in Safari

  1. Open the webpage in Safari and take a normal screenshot. On an iPhone with Face ID, quickly press and release the Side button and Volume Up button together. On an iPhone with a Home button, quickly press and release the Side button and Home button together.
  2. Tap the screenshot thumbnail or preview that appears.
  3. Tap Full Page in the screenshot interface.
  4. Drag the preview to inspect the captured page. Crop it if needed.
  5. Save the capture as an image in Photos, or choose Save PDF to Files to save it as a PDF.

Apple also describes AssistiveTouch, Back Tap and voice command as alternative ways to initiate a screenshot. Those options change how you take the initial screenshot; the documented full-page workflow still uses the capture interface and its Full Page control. See Apple’s instructions for the current procedure.

What to expect if you use Chrome

Google’s Chrome setup help page reviewed for this article lists iOS 18 and up as the system requirement; requirements can change, so check Google’s current Chrome download page if compatibility matters.

#1 Best Overall
Apple iPhone 14, 128GB, Midnight - Unlocked (Renewed)
  • This phone is unlocked and compatible with any carrier of choice on GSM and CDMA networks (e.g. AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, US Cellular, Cricket, Metro, Tracfone, Mint Mobile, etc.).
  • Please check with your carrier to verify compatibility.
  • The device does not come with headphones or a SIM card. It does include a generic (Mfi certified) charging cable.
  • Tested for battery health and guaranteed to have a minimum battery capacity of 80%.

The reviewed Google help pages explain how to share a page from Chrome and how to print with AirPrint. Printing is a separate function, not a full-page screenshot. Because those pages do not address the screenshot preview’s behavior over Chrome, they cannot settle whether a particular iPhone and Chrome version will expose Full Page for a given page. If you prefer Chrome, take a normal screenshot, open its preview, and check whether the option appears; use Safari when you need the documented route.

For a screenshot in a developer workflow, ScreenshotNeo offers a one-request website screenshot API. This is not an iPhone browser capture; it takes a screenshot of a URL from an API request. Its response identifies whether a page was captured, blocked, blank, timed out, failed to load, or served from cache, and only clean shots are billed. Before capture, it can accept cookie or consent banners and remove known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; each of those steps can be turned off. ScreenshotNeo also provides an MCP server for AI agents, with tools including take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf.

Example request using cURL (replace the target URL as needed):

Common issues

  • No Full Page control appears: The documented Apple workflow requires opening the screenshot preview and selecting Full Page. If the option is absent while viewing a Chrome page, the reviewed Google pages do not confirm whether it should be available there; try the page in Safari for Apple’s documented method.
  • You need an image, not a PDF: In Safari’s full-page capture interface, save the image to Photos rather than choosing Save PDF to Files.
  • You chose Chrome’s print option expecting a screenshot: AirPrint printing is not the documented full-page screenshot workflow. Use Safari’s screenshot preview for the image-or-PDF capture Apple describes.
