Rust’s industrial system lets you move resources between containers and run a selected crafting recipe without standing at a workbench. A dependable base uses storage adaptors to connect containers, conveyors to move filtered items, splitters to fan one pipe into three, and industrial crafters to turn ingredients into finished goods. Build the pipe network first, provide stable power, then add filters and control wires so a jammed output or empty input does not stop the whole production line.

What Rust’s industrial system does
Industrial parts form a separate item-and-power logistics layer inside your base. A storage adaptor attaches to a compatible box, furnace or locker. Pipes connect adaptors to industrial devices. Conveyors move selected items between connected endpoints; a splitter divides one incoming pipe among three outputs; and an industrial crafter consumes supplied ingredients to make one recipe selected in its interface.

The system is useful for repetitive jobs such as feeding ore to furnaces, collecting smelted materials, supplying ammunition components, or keeping a crafting station stocked. It does not remove the need to obtain blueprints, protect your electrical room, or manage the destination container. Every endpoint still has finite inventory, and a full output can stop production even when ingredients and power are available.
Core components and their jobs
| Component | What it does | Power or connection detail |
|---|---|---|
| Industrial Conveyor | Moves items from one adaptor or industrial port to another and filters which item types may pass. | The Facepunch wiki lists 1 rW consumption. Its electrical inputs are Power In, Turn Off and Turn On. |
| Industrial Crafter | Crafts one recipe selected in its UI. Ingredients enter through the conveyor network and finished items leave through its output port. | The Facepunch wiki lists 1 rW consumption. |
| Industrial Splitter | Accepts one pipe input and routes items to three outputs. | Power information is inconsistent between community references; verify the live value on your server before sizing a circuit. |
| Storage adaptor | Connects a compatible box, furnace or locker to the industrial pipe network so items can be inserted or extracted. | Place the adaptor on the container, then connect its industrial port to a pipe or device. |
Conveyors and crafters are the predictable parts of the electrical budget: one rW each according to the official wiki pages. Do not treat a community description such as “one electricity per segment” as a replacement for the official conveyor value. A splitter’s draw is unresolved: Rust Survival lists 0 rW, while Falcon Rust describes 2 electricity per operation. The Rustrician handbook describes splitting power evenly across up to three outputs, which explains routing but does not establish a consumption figure. If your server’s in-game information differs, use that value for the build.

Plan the network before placing pipes
Separate input, processing and output
Sketch three zones: an input store for raw materials, a processing row containing conveyors or crafters, and an output store for finished goods. Keeping these roles physically separate makes filters easier to audit and limits the damage from a wrong connection. Leave access space around every adaptor so you can open the container, replace a damaged part and read the device interface.
Decide which direction every pipe travels
Use a consistent convention, such as raw materials flowing from the left side of the room to the right and finished goods returning to a separate shelf. Industrial devices are easier to troubleshoot when an arrow on your plan corresponds to the actual flow. A conveyor should have a clear source and destination; avoid connecting several unfiltered stores together and hoping the game chooses the intended route.

Put batteries, generators, switches and branch circuits behind a wall or in a locked room. Run a dedicated branch to each active conveyor and crafter where practical. Community builders often prefer electrical branches over electrical splitters for distribution because splitters can waste rW, but this is guidance rather than an official power rule; test your circuit with the exact parts and server settings you use.
Step-by-step: build a basic automated line
- Place the containers. Put an input box and an output box where players can safely service them. Add a storage adaptor to each compatible container.
- Connect the pipe path. Run industrial pipe from the input adaptor to the conveyor’s input side, then from the conveyor’s output side to the destination adaptor or the next processing device. Keep bends and crossings visible.
- Install the conveyor. Open its interface and add only the item types that should move. A filter prevents unrelated loot from entering the line; an empty or overly broad filter can move valuable materials into the wrong machine.
- Wire power. Connect the electrical supply to Power In. Keep the conveyor’s Turn Off and Turn On inputs available on a switch, timer or controller if you want scheduled operation. A conveyor that has power but is held in an off state will not move items.
- Test with a small batch. Put a few test items in the source container and watch both the conveyor interface and destination inventory. Confirm that the intended item moves, that other items stay put, and that the destination has room.
- Label and secure it. Mark source, destination and power controls. Close the room to unauthorized players; a person who can change a filter or toggle a control can redirect an entire stockpile.
How to set up an industrial crafter
Choose the recipe
Open the industrial crafter and select the single recipe it should make. The crafter is not a general queue that alternates among several recipes; design one device around one product. If you need multiple products, use separate crafters with separate ingredient filters and output storage.
Feed the ingredients
Connect the ingredient container through a storage adaptor and conveyor. Configure the conveyor so every required ingredient can reach the crafter, but do not allow finished goods or unrelated resources into that path. If several ingredients share a source box, use item filters and, when necessary, separate conveyors so one product cannot consume another recipe’s stock.

Collect the result
Connect the crafter’s output port to a destination adaptor or an intermediate box. The output container must have free slots. A full destination can halt a line even while the crafter still has ingredients, so give high-volume products a larger store or a second collection stage.
Power and test
Supply the crafter with 1 rW according to the Facepunch wiki. Place a small quantity of each ingredient in the input box, then observe one complete craft and the resulting item count. If no item appears, check recipe selection, ingredient filters, the crafter’s power state and the output connection in that order.
Industrial splitters: three-way routing without guesswork
An industrial splitter has one pipe input and three outputs. Use it when one source must feed several independent destinations, such as a raw-material box supplying three furnaces or a central component store feeding multiple crafters. Each output should lead to a clearly identified adaptor or device.
Balanced distribution
Use three equivalent destinations when you want a roughly even workload. Keep their capacities similar and avoid attaching one tiny box beside two large industrial stores, because the small endpoint can fill first and make the pattern appear uneven.
Priority-style layouts
A splitter does not provide a documented priority mode in the supplied specifications. For a priority effect, build separate filtered branches or gate a branch with a conveyor’s Turn On and Turn Off inputs. Test the resulting behavior on your server rather than assuming the first output receives all items.

Power uncertainty
References disagree about splitter consumption: one community listing says 0 rW, another says 2 electricity per operation. Because no official Facepunch splitter value was available, check the device’s current information panel and your electrical readout. Size the supply for the observed draw, plus headroom for every conveyor and crafter on the same circuit.
Electricity, controls and timing
Build the power budget
Count every powered device. As a baseline, each industrial conveyor contributes 1 rW and each industrial crafter contributes 1 rW according to Facepunch’s wiki. Add the splitter value shown in your live game, then leave capacity for switches, timers and any other electrical equipment in the circuit. A battery or generator that barely meets the nominal total can still fail when the source is depleted or the circuit is expanded.
Use the conveyor’s control inputs
The conveyor exposes Power In, Turn Off and Turn On. Power In supplies operation; Turn Off and Turn On let a separate control line stop or start movement. A manual switch is enough for maintenance. For scheduled production, connect a timer or another controller and test both states before leaving the base unattended.
The Rust Casino wiki identifies timer connections for industrial control as Industrial Input, Power Input, Turn On and Turn Off. It does not establish a universal timer schedule in the available specifications, so configure the interval shown by your current device and verify it in practice.
Understand the five-second default
Community references describe a default five-second cycle for conveyor movement and crafter crafting. Server operators can change these intervals. Sources name a conveyor move-frequency setting and the server.industrialcrafterfrequency convar; the exact value on a modded or community server may therefore differ from the default. Treat five seconds as a starting expectation, not a guaranteed throughput figure.

Blueprints and material requirements
| Item | Reported requirement | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Industrial Conveyor | 75 Metal Fragments; Workbench level 1 | Reported by Rust Clash’s wiki; confirm the current blueprint in your game because Rust values change. |
| Industrial Splitter | 75 Metal Fragments; Workbench level 1 | Reported by Rust Clash’s wiki; confirm in the current version. |
| Industrial Splitter research | 15 Industrial Splitter Scrap | One guide reports this Research Table cost; confidence is low and it is not an official value in the supplied material. |
| Industrial Crafter | Not stated in the available specifications | Use the blueprint and crafting UI on your server rather than assuming it matches another industrial component. |
These are time-bound game values. A wipe, balance patch or custom server configuration can change a requirement, so check the live crafting and research screens before farming a precise quantity.
Container limits and scaling
One guide states that a single conveyor network supports a maximum of 16 containers, including storage adaptors in and out. This is a single-source claim and should be treated as version-dependent until confirmed on your server. Design a 16-container line as a conservative starting point, and split a larger base into independent networks rather than assuming an unverified limit will never be reached.
A Rust Clash user comment describes 31 or more splitters still reaching 31 boxes. That is an anecdote, not an official capacity specification, and it should not be used as a guaranteed scaling target. If you need more endpoints, build a second source network and test it under the same server rules.

Throughput planning
With a five-second default cycle, a device can only perform work at that cadence unless the server changes the relevant frequency. Actual output is lower when ingredients arrive late, a filter excludes a component, a destination fills, or a power control is off. Measure a complete cycle with a known batch instead of converting the nominal interval into a promised hourly rate.
Useful base-automation patterns
Furnace feed and collection
Place raw ore in an input store, filter a conveyor for the material your furnaces accept, and connect the line to furnace adaptors. Use a separate return path for processed output so fuel, ore and metal do not share an unfiltered destination. A splitter can fan the raw-material branch to three furnaces, but inspect each furnace’s capacity and keep the output stores distinct.
Best Value
Component production cell
Give each industrial crafter one recipe, one filtered ingredient path and one output container. Put the crafters side by side, label their inputs and outputs, and use a central storage box only for ingredients that are genuinely shared. This layout makes it clear which missing component stopped a recipe.
Maintenance mode
Wire a wall switch to the conveyors’ Turn Off inputs and label it “Industrial maintenance.” Stop movement before opening containers, replacing a pipe or changing filters. Restore power first, then Turn On, and watch one cycle to confirm that items are traveling to the intended destination.

Troubleshooting checklist
Nothing moves
- Confirm the conveyor has power at Power In and is not receiving Turn Off.
- Check that both storage adaptors are attached to the intended containers and that the pipe is connected at both ends.
- Open the filter and add the exact item type being tested.
- Place a small test stack in the source and wait through the server’s configured cycle.
The wrong item moves
- Remove broad or duplicate filters and leave only the intended item.
- Inspect every conveyor on the shared path; an earlier device may be accepting the item.
- Separate recipes into dedicated crafters and ingredient branches.
The crafter will not craft
- Verify that a recipe is selected and that all required ingredients can reach the input.
- Check the crafter’s 1 rW supply and any upstream conveyor power.
- Make space in the output container and inspect the output port connection.
- Allow for the server’s configured crafting frequency rather than assuming the five-second default.
Only one splitter branch works
- Check the pipe connection on all three outputs and confirm each destination adaptor is attached.
- Test branches with equal, small batches to distinguish a routing problem from a full destination.
- Read the splitter’s current power information and make sure the circuit can support its observed draw.
The line stops after an upgrade
- Count containers and adaptors against the 16-container limit reported by one guide.
- Check battery charge, generator fuel and branch settings.
- Temporarily isolate the new device, then reconnect it after the original line completes a test cycle.
Safety, access and maintenance
Industrial automation concentrates valuable resources in predictable locations. Protect the electrical panel and storage rooms with building privilege and doors, and avoid exposing control switches in public corridors. Keep a manual emergency switch available to stop conveyors before a filter change or raid repair.
After every wipe or server update, verify three things before loading a full stockpile: the blueprint costs shown in the current UI, the server’s conveyor and crafter frequencies, and the splitter’s actual power behavior. Record the working filter and wiring layout on a sign inside the industrial room. That small maintenance note is faster than rebuilding a line after a forgotten toggle or changed convar.
