A report published on 3 October 2026 says five Russian air-attack weapons, including drones and Banderol missiles, entered Moldovan airspace and exploded on Moldovan soil while Russia attacked Ukraine. The report describes fires in fields and damage to a farm building, with no deaths or injuries reported by police. These details are attributed to YAC News and the Moldovan authorities it cites; they have not been independently confirmed here through a primary Moldovan government statement.
What happened in Moldova?
YAC News reported on 3 October 2026 that five Russian air-attack weapons crossed into Moldovan airspace and exploded on Moldovan territory during a Russian attack on Ukraine. The account identifies the weapons as including Banderol missiles and drones, and attributes the count and airspace violation to information from Moldovan monitoring authorities and a statement by President Maia Sandu. The incident details remain attributed reporting, rather than independently verified findings.
YAC News reproduced Sandu’s statement as: “5 Russian air attack weapons, including Banderol missiles and drones, violated our airspace and exploded on our soil.” The original social-media post has not been independently checked, so the wording is presented here as quoted by YAC News.
Where did the reported debris fall, and what was damaged?
The report describes recovered wreckage near Cotiujeni in Briceni district and fragments identified as a Gerbera drone in Florești district. Those identifications are findings attributed by the report, not an independent technical assessment.

YAC News says the explosions started fires in fields and blew out windows at a farm building. It reports that police said no one was killed or injured in Moldova in this incident.
What did Maia Sandu say?
Alongside the statement about five weapons, YAC News attributed two further sentences to Sandu’s X post: “Russia’s war is dangerously reaching Moldova” and “Moscow is putting lives at risk across Europe and must be stopped.” Because the original post was not independently verified, these are quotations as reproduced in YAC News’s account.

How does this differ from the September border-crossing attack?
A separate event occurred on 10 September at the Starokozache crossing in Ukraine, roughly one kilometre from Moldova. A Reuters report carried by Internazionale said two civilians were killed and three wounded there, and passenger and vehicle traffic was halted. Those casualties were in Ukraine during a different incident; they are not casualties from the 3 October report about Moldovan territory.
The same Reuters account said Ukrainian border guards reported that five border crossings had been struck in recent weeks: four on the Moldovan border and one on Romania’s. That is contextual information attributed to Ukrainian border guards, not confirmation of the 3 October incident.

What wider pattern is reported?
YAC News attributes to Ziarul de Gardă a count of more than 85 Russian drones and missiles crossing Moldovan airspace illegally since Russia’s full-scale invasion began in 2022. YAC News does not link to the original count in the account cited here, so its underlying source and methodology are not independently established here.
For the 3 October event, casualty status, official statements and debris identifications could change as authorities investigate. The available account supports reporting the incident with clear attribution, not treating every detail as independently confirmed.
