The same Australian page displays a 2025 Canstar Blue Most Satisfied Customers award claim for Russell Hobbs irons; it should not be read as a test result for this particular model. What is—and is not—known about ironing performance
The specifications show the iron’s rated power and advertised steam output, but they do not show how well it removes wrinkles, how evenly it distributes steam, how quickly it heats or recovers, or how comfortable it feels during a long ironing session. Consumer NZ lists the RHC280 in its irons and steam stations coverage, on a page marked updated March 2025. Its accessible page does not expose an RHC280 score or comparative test results. Steam is available at or above the manual’s steam threshold. Leave four seconds between steam bursts. The spray may mark some fabrics, so test it on a hidden area first. The manual also permits vertical steam on hanging garments, curtains and furnishing fabrics; keep the area ventilated, take care around nearby surfaces, and check that pockets and cuffs are empty.

Water, cleaning and storage
The manual permits tap water in general. In hard-water areas, it advises using distilled water suitable for irons—not chemically descaled or softened water. Fill slowly and stop at the maximum mark. It advises running the self-clean function at least monthly in normal-water areas and more often where water is hard. - After use, empty the tank and let the iron cool.
- Store it upright on its heel.
- Do not leave the plugged-in iron unattended.
- For repairs, use the manufacturer or a suitably qualified person; the manual says there are no user-serviceable parts.
Auto shut-off and restarting
If left still, the iron switches off after about 30 seconds with the soleplate down or about eight minutes upright, according to the 2022 manual. To restart it, lift it, tilt it forward, then set it upright so it can return to operating temperature. These are manual timings, not a guarantee that every situation is risk-free; unplug the iron when it is not in use.
Price, region and warranty
The Australian listing gives an RRP of A$59.95. The New Zealand listing gives an RRP of NZ$179.99 and repeats the core specifications. These are separate market prices in different currencies, not directly comparable values; check the price and availability with a local retailer. The specifications alone cannot establish whether it is a better choice than another iron; that would require comparable test results or firsthand use.
