The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 is the most-reported individual GPU in Valve’s September 2026 Steam Hardware & Software Survey, appearing in 5.86% of surveyed systems. The survey’s 16GB GPU-memory category also rose that month, reaching 27.21%. These are survey shares, not sales totals or a census of PC owners.
What is the most popular GPU on Steam?
Valve’s September 2026 survey lists the RTX 5070 at 5.86% of surveyed systems, with a reported monthly increase of 2.30 percentage points. It is the leading individual GPU in that month’s survey table. Valve’s figure measures the share of participating systems reporting that GPU; it does not show how many cards were sold or establish the RTX 5070 as the most common GPU among all PC owners.

Valve’s Steam Hardware & Software Survey is the primary source for the snapshot. Its results are useful for seeing which hardware appears among surveyed Steam users, but they should not be read as a market-wide sales ranking.
What does the survey say about 16GB GPU memory?
The survey assigns 27.21% of surveyed systems to the 16GB GPU-memory category in September 2026, up 0.29 percentage points from the prior monthly figure. That supports a narrower conclusion: the category increased in this month’s comparison. The cited figures alone do not establish a sustained, multi-month rise in 16GB GPU ownership.

Why a sharp monthly change needs context
A hardware survey’s month-to-month results can move when the composition of respondents changes, as well as when users acquire or replace hardware. Hardware Busters noted a seven-percentage-point shift in Simplified Chinese respondents and said it may have contributed to September’s movement. That is a possible sampling influence, not a confirmed explanation for the RTX 5070’s result. Hardware Busters’ report discusses the change.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Does the Steam survey confirm the RTX 5070 has 12GB?
No. Valve’s survey identifies the RTX 5070 but does not state its memory capacity in the cited result. The 12GB description appears in PC Guide’s title-matched coverage, but the evidence here does not independently verify that specification against a manufacturer source. Do not treat the survey ranking as proof of the card’s VRAM capacity. PC Guide’s story uses the 12GB description in its headline.
What these numbers mean if you are choosing a GPU
Survey popularity is not a recommendation. The figures do not compare price, availability, gaming performance, power requirements, or value. To assess a card for your own build, compare verified specifications and current regional prices, then check performance at the resolution and settings you use, along with power-supply and case compatibility.
