The best case for an RTX 4090 is one that fits your exact card—not just the reference model—while leaving room for its power cable and your chosen fans or radiator. Two cases with generous published GPU-length limits are the Fractal Design Meshify 2, rated for cards up to 470 mm, and the LIAN LI Vector V100, rated up to 420 mm. Those figures are useful starting points, not guarantees: check card width, thickness, connector clearance and the case’s configuration notes before buying.
What an RTX 4090 case must accommodate
NVIDIA’s Founders Edition/reference GeForce RTX 4090 measures 304 mm long, 137 mm wide and 61 mm thick—three expansion slots. NVIDIA also recommends planning an additional 36 mm for the power cable. These are reference-card dimensions, not a specification for every RTX 4090: partner models vary, so use the dimensions published by the manufacturer of your exact graphics card. See NVIDIA’s RTX 4090 specifications and installation guidance.

- Length: Compare the card’s length with the case’s GPU limit in your intended configuration. Front fans or a radiator can reduce the usable space.
- Width and cable room: A card may fit lengthwise but still press against the side panel or leave too little room for the power cable to bend. Check the card-to-panel clearance as well as the card width.
- Thickness and adjacent slots: Check how many expansion slots the card occupies and whether other cards or components would obstruct it. NVIDIA says clearance around the graphics card equivalent to an unused expansion slot will typically improve airflow.
- Cooling layout: Confirm that the case has the fan and radiator positions your build needs, without compromising GPU clearance.
Two cases with roomy published GPU-length limits
| Case | Published maximum GPU length | What the specification tells you |
|---|---|---|
| Fractal Design Meshify 2 | Up to 470 mm | Fractal Design lists three included fans, up to nine fan positions, and a mesh front with a removable filter. Check the exact card and the clearance remaining with your chosen front cooling setup. Manufacturer specifications. |
| LIAN LI Vector V100 | Up to 420 mm | LIAN LI describes it as a mid-tower with ATX, Micro-ATX and Mini-ITX support. The length figure does not specify whether your particular card’s width, thickness and cable bend will fit. Manufacturer specifications. |
The published limits make these cases worth considering when GPU length is a concern; they do not establish a thermal ranking or guarantee compatibility with every RTX 4090. Check the manufacturer’s notes for the particular case variant and layout you plan to use.
How to confirm fit before you buy
- Identify the exact graphics card. Find its length, width and thickness on the card maker’s product page. Do not substitute NVIDIA’s Founders Edition dimensions for a partner model.
- Check the case’s GPU limit for your layout. Compare that limit with card length, accounting for any front fan or radiator that occupies space. If the case maker provides configuration-specific measurements, use the one matching your build.
- Verify side-panel and connector clearance. Make sure the card and power connector fit without forcing the cable against the panel. NVIDIA’s 36 mm additional cable-clearance guidance is for the reference card; check the graphics-card maker’s instructions for your exact model.
- Check slot and airflow space. Confirm the card’s thickness will not block components you need, and leave room around it for airflow where possible.
- Confirm the rest of the build. Check motherboard form factor, PSU dimensions, storage positions and radiator placement against the case specifications, not just the GPU-length figure.
Check the power supply separately
Case fit and PSU capacity are different checks. NVIDIA lists 450 W total graphics power and 850 W required system power for its stated RTX 4090 configuration, while noting that required system power depends on the build. Use the graphics-card maker’s guidance and account for the rest of your components when selecting a PSU; the case’s GPU clearance does not determine the PSU requirement. See NVIDIA’s RTX 4090 specifications.
