The RTX 5070 is not an automatic performance upgrade over the RTX 4070 Ti. The 5070 adds Blackwell architecture, GDDR7 memory and newer DLSS features, but a GamersNexus 1080p raster test found the 4070 Ti ahead by 2%. If you already own a 4070 Ti, compare results for your games and resolution, then weigh any feature benefit against the cost of switching after resale.
RTX 5070 vs RTX 4070 Ti: key differences
NVIDIA lists both cards with 12 GB of memory, but they use different architectures and memory types. The RTX 5070 is a Blackwell card with GDDR7; the RTX 4070 Ti uses Ada Lovelace and GDDR6 or GDDR6X, depending on the specification listing. Bandwidth describes how quickly data can move between GPU and memory; it does not, by itself, predict game performance.

Which card is faster in games?
There is no universal winner across games and settings. In one 1080p raster workload, GamersNexus measured the RTX 4070 Ti 2% ahead of the RTX 5070. That result is specific to that test; it is not an across-game average and does not settle performance at other resolutions, in ray tracing, or with DLSS enabled. It does show why the 5070 should not be described as a guaranteed raw-performance upgrade.

For a useful comparison, look for results from the same reviewer using the same test platform and matched settings. Check your target resolution and the games you play, and keep rasterization, ray tracing and upscaling results separate. ComputerBase tests the RTX 5070 at WQHD, UWQHD and Ultra HD; its comparison tables include the RTX 4070 Ti SUPER, which is a different GPU from the RTX 4070 Ti. Tom’s Hardware’s Founders Edition review reports rasterization and separate power, clock, thermal and noise testing. Do not combine numbers from different review labs as if they came from one controlled comparison.

Does DLSS 4 make the RTX 5070 a worthwhile upgrade?
DLSS and frame generation are feature considerations, not evidence that the 5070 renders more frames natively. Their practical value depends on whether the specific games you play support the relevant features and whether you like the resulting image and responsiveness. Generated frames are not equivalent to frames rendered by the GPU, so do not treat a generated-frame counter as a direct measure of conventional performance.
If DLSS features are the reason you are considering a change, check support for the games you actually play and look at comparisons that report image quality and responsiveness alongside frame rates. If you mainly want higher ordinary raster frame rates, prioritize matched native-rendering benchmarks instead.

For most owners, keeping a working 4070 Ti is the sensible default unless a specific supported feature, workload, card condition or favorable transaction cost gives the 5070 a clear purpose. The two cards have the same listed VRAM capacity, and the cited 1080p raster result does not establish a general frame-rate gain.
Calculate the net cost using the actual price of the RTX 5070 available to you and what you can realistically get for your 4070 Ti. Account for the exact board model, condition, warranty and local availability. No aligned current-price comparison is established here, so an old launch price cannot determine today’s upgrade value.
When a switch may make sense
- You need a specific RTX 5070 feature supported by games or software you use.
- Your current card’s condition or warranty situation makes replacement valuable to you.
- Your net cost after selling the 4070 Ti is attractive, based on real offers and a clearly identified replacement model.
When to keep the 4070 Ti
- Your main goal is a clear increase in ordinary game frame rates, but matched tests for your games do not show one.
- You do not expect to use the 5070’s newer features enough to justify the transaction cost.
- Your existing card meets your needs and is in good condition.
What does the RTX 5070 cost?
NVIDIA announced a $549 starting price for the RTX 5070 in January 2025, with availability beginning in February 2025. That is launch MSRP context, not an October 2026 retail quote; current prices, stock and partner-card premiums need to be checked where you shop. NVIDIA’s announcement states: “The GeForce RTX 5070 Ti GPU with 1,406 AI TOPS and GeForce RTX 5070 GPU with 988 AI TOPS will be available starting in February at $749 and $549, respectively.” NVIDIA’s January 2025 announcement gives the launch context. A Tech4Gamers comparison recorded pricing observations from early March 2025; those observations are historical, not current market prices.
For a new build, compare the actual available price of the 5070 with other cards you are considering rather than using the old launch MSRP as a measure of value. For an upgrade, include resale value and the exact board’s condition and warranty in the calculation.

How to make the comparison for your setup
- Choose your games and resolution. Prioritize benchmarks for the titles and settings you actually use, such as 1440p or 4K.
- Separate the test types. Compare raster performance with raster performance, and examine ray tracing and DLSS results independently.
- Use consistent reviews. Prefer results from the same reviewer and test setup; do not merge unrelated labs’ measurements into a single average.
- Check the exact model. Make sure the comparison is RTX 4070 Ti, not RTX 4070 Ti SUPER, and account for board-partner differences where dimensions, cooling or power matter.
- Work out the net cost. Use current local purchase and resale offers, not the 5070’s launch MSRP or historical early-2025 price observations.
