On a Roku TV, cancel the sleep timer at Home > Settings > System > Time > Sleep timer. If you use a separate Roku player plugged into the TV, check that player’s Auto power savings setting instead. First identify whether the TV itself is losing power, showing a screensaver, or returning to Roku Home after playback stops; those are different behaviors.
First identify what is turning off
Roku can be built into the television, or it can come from a separate device connected through HDMI. Check which setup you have before changing settings: the Roku TV sleep timer and the external player’s power-saving feature are separate controls.

- The panel goes black or the TV loses power: check the Roku TV sleep timer first, or the external player’s Auto power savings if you have a compatible player.
- A moving image or pattern appears: that is likely a screensaver, which changes the display while the device is idle.
- Playback stops and Roku Home appears: Bandwidth Saver may have ended the stream. That does not, by itself, mean the TV powered off.
Cancel the sleep timer on a Roku TV
On a television with Roku built in, use Home > Settings > System > Time > Sleep timer. Roku’s support page, last updated June 18, 2026, lists timer intervals of 30 minutes, 1 hour, 1.5 hours, 2 hours, and 3 hours. Return to the same menu to select a different interval or cancel the active timer. Only one sleep timer can be active at a time. Roku’s sleep timer instructions
You may also be able to set a timer from a Sleep Timer shortcut tile, or from the Options menu opened with the Star button while content is playing. App behavior varies, so use the Settings route if the Star button has another function or the shortcut is unavailable. A Roku Voice Remote or the free Roku mobile app can also accept voice commands; buying a remote is not required to change the setting.

Turn off Auto power savings on a separate Roku player
If a Roku streaming player is connected to the television by HDMI, check its setting independently. Roku says Auto power savings is available only on specified models; its current support page lists supported model numbers, including certain Roku Express 4K, Express 4K+, Streaming Stick 4K, Streaming Stick 4K+, Roku 4, Roku Ultra, and Roku Ultra LT models. On a compatible player, open Home > Settings > System > Power > Auto power savings and uncheck After 20 minutes of no interaction. Roku says the player enters low-power mode after 20 minutes without streaming or control from the remote or mobile app, then attempts to turn off the connected TV. That TV command depends on HDMI-CEC (also called CEC), which allows devices on the same HDMI connection to send commands to each other.

This is an external-player setting, not a universal Roku TV setting. Roku describes its streaming players as designed to stay on and generally lacking an ordinary power button. It also notes that Roku 4 has an Auto power off feature and that some USB-powered players lose power when the TV’s USB port turns off. Roku’s explanation of powering Roku players

Screensaver appears
A screensaver fills the display with moving images or patterns while a Roku device is not in use. To change when it appears, or disable it, go to Settings > Theme > Screensaver wait time. Changing this wait time affects the screensaver; it is not the Roku TV sleep-timer control. Roku’s screensaver instructions

Stream stops and Roku Home appears
Roku says Bandwidth Saver can stop streaming after four hours without commands from the Roku remote or mobile app, then return the device to Home. If the television remains on and displays Home, the stream has stopped rather than the TV powering off. Roku’s Bandwidth Saver explanation

- Confirm whether Roku is built into the television or comes from a separate HDMI-connected player.
- On a Roku TV, cancel the sleep timer using Home > Settings > System > Time > Sleep timer.
- For a compatible external Roku player, review Home > Settings > System > Power > Auto power savings and its interaction with HDMI-CEC.
- If neither setting explains a full power-off, look for the television manufacturer’s model-specific power or energy settings. The correct menu depends on the TV brand and model, which are needed to identify the next setting.
Roku uses distinct shortcut names for these device types: Sleep Timer for Roku TVs and TV Off for Roku streaming players. That is another reason to verify which device you are controlling before changing a setting. Roku’s shortcut and power guidance
