ASUS released BIOS 323 for the original 2023 ROG Ally on July 21, 2023. It let the handheld use its 30W Turbo performance mode with compatible 65W-or-higher USB Power Delivery adapters and USB-C hubs. That is 30W system power—not a promise that the battery charges at 30W. ASUS also said the update optimized plugged-in Performance mode, but published no universal FPS improvement.
What BIOS 323 changed
ASUS announced the update on July 21, 2023, and contemporary reporting identified it as BIOS 323. Its changes applied to the original 2023 ROG Ally, not automatically to the Ally X or later models. ASUS’s changelog listed four items:
- Added 30W Turbo support with 65W-or-higher USB PD adapters or USB-C hubs.
- Lowered the display’s minimum brightness from 25 nits to 10 nits.
- Made future BIOS updates preserve the selected “Memory Assigned to GPU” setting.
- Optimized Performance mode while the Ally is plugged in.
The update is a historical firmware milestone, not a new 2026 release. BIOS 323 should not be assumed to be the latest version available now.
What “30W support” means—and what it does not
The headline phrase “30W charging” can be misleading. The Ally has distinct operating profiles: 10W Silent, 15W Performance, 25W Turbo on battery, and 30W Turbo when connected to AC power, according to ASUS’s ROG Ally (2023) specifications. BIOS 323 addressed access to that 30W system performance profile through certain third-party chargers and docks. It did not establish a 30W battery-charging rate.

#1 Best Overall
- NOTE: When the ROG Xbox Ally / ROG Xbox Ally X is connected to the dock, part of the input power is consumed by the dock itself. Using the original 65W or lower PD charger may trigger the message “Not enough power to charge efficiently.” This does not affect gameplay, but charging speed may be slower and overall charging time may be longer. For optimal performance, a PD 100W charger is recommended
- 6-in-1 Docking Station for Handheld: Experience enhanced gaming with 4K@120Hz HDMI output, Gigabit Ethernet, USB C PD charging, USB C 3.2 Gen 1, and dual USB A 3.2 Gen 1 ports. Enjoy crisp 4K@120Hz or 1080@240Hz HDMI output for vivid gaming visuals
- Modular Docking Station: The JSAUX docking station provides dual functionality. Use it with the gaming console directly on the dock, or detach the base for standalone use as a stand, offering flexibility for both desktop and portable setups. The extra silicone pad ensures a perfect fit, enhances stability, prevents slipping, and improves support angles for a better gaming experience
- DIY Customize Your Docking Station: Easily personalize your docking station by adding a custom card between the front cover and the dock. Just remove the cover, insert your card, and snap the cover back on. NOTE: Recommended card size is 3.00" x 1.13" x 0.01" (76.3mm x 28.7mm x 0.3mm). Custom cards NOT included
- Perfect Compatibility: Compatible with ROG Xbox Ally X (2025), ROG Xbox Ally (2025), ROG Ally X, ROG Ally, Steam Deck, Legion Go, Legion Go S, Razer Edge, AYA NEO, AYA ODIN, Logitech G Cloud, and ONEXPLAYER. Supports 100W max power delivery, which is enough to charge your ROG Ally X, ROG Ally, Steam Deck LCD/OLED, or Legion Go at full speed when paired with the original charger
USB-C Power Delivery (PD) is the negotiation between the charger, cable, dock and device about the power available. ASUS said some docks did not communicate their full available power correctly, so the Ally played safe and limited Turbo to 25W. The BIOS change adjusted the Ally’s power-draw behavior so it could use power available from the dock.
Why a 65W label does not guarantee a stable setup
ASUS specified a 65W-or-higher PD adapter or hub for 30W support, but the rating on a charger is not the same as the power that reaches the handheld. A dock may use some of the input for its own electronics, HDMI, Ethernet, storage and other USB devices. The cable and the dock’s supported PD profiles also matter.

ASUS warned that some charger-and-dock combinations could run the Ally in 30W Turbo while the battery slowly drained. If that happens, the mode indicator alone is not proof the setup can sustain the load and replenish the battery. Removing peripherals or trying a higher-wattage adapter may help; changing the dock may be necessary.
How to install or check for updates
Armoury Crate SE’s current ASUS documentation places firmware and driver checks in Update Center. Menu wording can change between software versions, and ASUS does not guarantee that BIOS 323 will be offered to every owner now. Use the update center to check what is available for your device rather than treating 323 as the current firmware.

Personalize your setup by adding a custom front card (3.00 x 1.13 x 0.01 inches / 76.3 x 28.7 x 0.3 mm). Just pop off the cover, insert your card, and snap it back.
- Wide Compatibility & Turbo Mode Support: Compatible with ROG Ally X, ROG Ally, Steam Deck, Legion Go and Legion Go S. Fully supports 30W Turbo Mode on ROG Ally and Ally X. NOTE: 30W Turbo Mode requires a 100W PD charger to be plugged in (not included) and will not function without it.
- Connect the Ally to its charger.
- Open Armoury Crate SE, then Settings.
- Choose Update Center, then Check for Updates.
- Review and install the offered BIOS, firmware, driver or Armoury Crate updates.
- Keep the device connected to power, do not interrupt a BIOS installation, and restart if prompted.
ASUS’s Armoury Crate SE update instructions describe this check-for-updates workflow. Availability depends on the device and current software.
How to check whether a dock can sustain 30W Turbo
- Connect the Ally directly to its ASUS charger and check that Turbo is available. This gives you a baseline without the dock.
- Connect the same charger to the dock, confirm the adapter is rated for at least 65W, then connect the Ally through the dock.
- Open Command Center or Armoury Crate and select Turbo. Check that the Ally indicates AC-connected 30W Turbo, rather than assuming that the word “Turbo” alone confirms the wattage.
- Run a demanding game for 15–30 minutes and watch the battery percentage. A stable percentage is a more useful sign of adequate power than the mode label alone.
- If the battery drops, test again without HDMI, Ethernet, storage and other USB accessories. If needed, try a higher-wattage PD adapter, a different high-power-rated cable, or another dock.
If direct charging reaches 30W but the docked setup does not, the dock, its power budget, cable or PD negotiation is the likely point of difference. Direct connection is also the simplest workaround if you do not need the dock’s ports or display output.

Should you expect better game performance?
ASUS described an optimization to Performance mode while plugged in, but its changelog supplied no FPS increase, game-by-game results, benchmark method, temperature comparison or fan-noise comparison. It is not evidence of a guaranteed speed boost in every game. The outcome depends on the game, graphics driver, BIOS, resolution, frame-rate limit, thermals and power mode.
ASUS’s published Ally benchmark figures are manufacturer results under specified configurations—not independent tests of BIOS 323. ASUS lists BIOS 325, Armoury Crate SE 1.3.6, a 65W PD connection and 30W Turbo among the stated conditions, and cautions that results vary with configuration and newer drivers. Those figures should not be used as a measured before-and-after result for this update.

What the update did not establish
The BIOS 323 changelog did not list a microSD-card reader fix. Tom’s Hardware’s coverage of BIOS 323 also noted that the update did not explicitly mention the microSD issue. Do not install it on the assumption that it resolves that separate concern.
The 30W dock change was not a guarantee that every third-party dock would work. ASUS described a power-negotiation and power-availability change, with the battery-drain caveat still applying when the full setup could not supply enough power.
