1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsNeither “Radeon” nor “GeForce” alone tells you whether a GPU will work with a particular compute stack. Check the exact graphics card, ROCm or CUDA release, operating system, driver, framework, and libraries together. The official documentation cited here establishes compatibility requirements, not a universal performance winner.
What ROCm and CUDA support actually depends on
ROCm is AMD’s GPU-computing software stack; CUDA is NVIDIA’s. In practice, compatibility is determined by a specific combination of hardware and software—not by the vendor name on the card. Before choosing a platform, verify that the exact GPU model appears in the relevant release documentation and that the operating system, host tools, framework, and required libraries are supported too.

AMD’s ROCm 10.1.0 compatibility matrix, dated August 25, 2026, is the broad entry point for supported GPU and Linux or Windows configurations. Use its selectors for the release and machine you intend to run. AMD also notes that firmware, driver, and user-space versions need to align for expected operation.
Release-specific pages can give a narrower picture. AMD’s Linux requirements for ROCm 7.2.3, dated April 17, 2026, list models including the Radeon RX 9070 XT, RX 9070, RX 9060 series, and several RX 7000 series cards. AMD states: “If a GPU is not listed on this table, it’s not officially supported by AMD.” A community-enabled build may work on unlisted hardware, but that is not the same as official production support.

Check framework and operating-system support
A GPU’s presence on a ROCm support list does not guarantee that every application or framework will work on it. Consult the framework matrix for the exact operating system and ROCm version you plan to use.
Radeon on Linux and Windows
AMD’s Radeon Linux support matrix and Radeon Windows support matrix describe hardware, operating-system, and framework combinations for ROCm 7.2.1. The Windows page lists Windows 11 and PyTorch 2.9 with ROCm components 7.2.1, and says the entire ROCm stack is not yet supported on Windows. Those statements apply to the versions documented on those pages; they should not be read as a description of every ROCm component or later release. Compare their version labels with AMD’s newer core compatibility matrix before installing.

GeForce and CUDA host requirements
NVIDIA’s CUDA 13.4 Linux installation guide and CUDA 13.4 Windows installation guide specify qualified host operating systems and toolchain requirements, including compiler combinations. Meeting those host requirements is only part of the check: confirm that your particular GPU, CUDA release, and application are supported as well. NVIDIA’s CUDA Toolkit documentation links to programming, library, compiler, and profiling resources.

Compare the stacks for your actual setup
| What to verify | ROCm on Radeon | CUDA on GeForce |
|---|---|---|
| Exact GPU | Check the model against the AMD support list for the chosen ROCm release and system configuration. | Check that the GPU supports the chosen CUDA release and application. |
| Operating system and host tools | Use the matching AMD OS and hardware matrix; verify driver and software-version alignment. | Use the matching CUDA installation guide for the operating system, compiler, and toolchain. |
| Frameworks and libraries | Check the relevant framework matrix for the GPU, OS, and ROCm version combination. | Verify that the framework, CUDA release, GPU, and required libraries work together. |
| Performance evidence | Compare measurements for the same workload, named GPUs, software versions, precision, and settings. The documentation cited here does not establish a cross-platform performance winner. | |
How to make a fair performance comparison
Compatibility documentation cannot answer which platform will be faster for your workload. Speed can vary with the GPU model, framework and library versions, precision, input or model size, memory capacity, power limits, and tuning. A broad support list is not evidence of higher performance, and neither platform should be called faster across applications on that basis.

For a useful comparison, run the same task on identified cards with the relevant software versions and settings recorded. Include the operating system and driver or toolkit versions, precision, input or batch size, and memory use. Report the measured result for that task rather than treating it as a universal Radeon-versus-GeForce ranking.
Quick Recap
A practical pre-installation checklist
- Name the workload. Identify the application or framework and the libraries it needs.
- Identify the exact hardware and environment. Record the full GPU model, operating system, and relevant host tools.
- Check the matching vendor release documentation. For Radeon, use the AMD compatibility and system-requirements pages for the ROCm release; for GeForce, consult the CUDA installation guide and verify GPU and application support.
- Confirm the framework combination. Make sure its documented version supports your GPU, operating system, and selected stack release.
- Only then compare performance. Use workload-matched results with versions, precision, settings, and memory constraints disclosed.
