Four Kickoff places are available through open regional competition: two from Europe, one from Türkiye and one from MENA. The qualifying events begin in November 2026.
What Riot is funding
The payment is financial support for a non-partner team reaching EMEA Kickoff, not a guaranteed salary or a replacement for tournament winnings. Riot says open teams also remain eligible for prize-pool earnings and other incentives.

The policy is part of Riot’s revised 2027 VCT structure. The official EMEA field has 12 teams:
| Team source | Number of teams | How places are assigned |
|---|---|---|
| Partner teams | 8 | Selected through the existing partner structure |
| Regional open qualifiers | 4 | Two Europe, one Türkiye and one MENA |
Riot’s broader VCT 2027 format announcement describes the same 12-team composition for EMEA, Americas and Pacific.

How the three EMEA qualification routes work
Europe: two Kickoff berths
Europe runs two qualifier events. Those events feed a 16-team regional playoff, and the top two playoff finishers advance to EMEA Kickoff. Europe therefore supplies half of the four open EMEA places.
Türkiye: one Kickoff berth
Türkiye also holds two qualifier events. Their successful teams enter an eight-team playoff; the playoff winner takes Türkiye’s single direct place at EMEA Kickoff.

Who can enter
Riot’s eligibility rules apply to players and rosters in the open qualifiers:
- Every player must be at least 17 years old.
- A player must have reached Ascendant 1 or higher either when registering or during one of the previous three episodes.
- A team selects a home region. At least three of its five starting players must reside in that region, allowing a maximum of two non-resident starters.
- If the team reaches a playoff, it must retain at least three of the five players listed on its qualifying roster.
The residency requirement means a team cannot freely combine players from across EMEA and then choose a region after qualifying. Its home-region declaration and starting lineup must satisfy the three-of-five rule.

Registration and key dates
Registration for the first qualifier opened on October 15, 2026. Riot’s EMEA announcement provides separate registration links for Europe, Türkiye and MENA. Teams should verify the regional form, roster information and eligibility checks before entering; the announcement does not state a single EMEA-wide closing deadline.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:

How the payment ladder works beyond Kickoff
Riot’s wider VCT 2027 format sets fixed payments for non-partner teams that reach major stages:
| Stage reached | Fixed Riot payment | Additional earning eligibility |
|---|---|---|
| Kickoff or a Cup | $100,000 | Prize-pool earnings and additional incentives remain available |
| Masters | $200,000 | Prize-pool earnings and additional incentives remain available |
| Champions | $400,000 | Prize-pool earnings and additional incentives remain available |
The amounts are fixed payments announced by Riot Games in 2026. They should not be read as the total value of a team’s season, because prize money and other incentives are separate.
Why the change matters for non-partner teams
The four open places create a direct competitive route into an EMEA event that otherwise contains eight partner slots. A successful team no longer needs partnership status to reach Kickoff or to qualify for Riot’s stated support payment.
“The goal is to create a system where strong performance can translate into meaningful support, regardless of partnership status.”
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
Riot’s global-tour announcement on October 15, 2026, described the season as “a very different year for the VCT.” In EMEA, the practical change is measurable: four regional qualifier teams join eight partners, and each qualifying non-partner receives the same $100,000 Kickoff support payment.
