The Volcanic Egg is reported to spawn in Dragon’s Lair, inside the volcano on Volcano Island. To retrieve one, travel from the Desert, enter through a small opening in the volcano, descend to the lower chamber, then make the timed return to your ranch. Hatching it can produce a Griffin, but the outcome is not guaranteed.
Where the Volcanic Egg spawns
Recent game guides place the egg in Dragon’s Lair, a lower chamber inside the volcano on Volcano Island. They describe approaching the island from the Desert and looking for a small cave opening on the volcano’s side. Directions such as “right side” depend on the player’s viewpoint, so use the cave opening as your landmark rather than relying on left or right.

What to do before you go
- Check that an egg is available. Guides recommend watching for an in-game spawn announcement or asking the Tracker NPC. They also report that Eternal Radar does not track the Volcanic Egg; neither detail has official confirmation in the reviewed sources.
- Bring a flying pet. Phoenix is the pet most often recommended for reaching the entrance and escaping. Guides do not establish that Phoenix is the only pet that can complete the route, so treat it as a reported recommendation, not a confirmed hard requirement.
- Learn the return path first. Guides report short timers after pickup, so identify the route back through the cave and onward to the ranch before collecting the egg.
How to retrieve the Volcanic Egg
- From the Desert, travel across the water toward Volcano Island and locate the volcano.
- Search the volcano’s side for the small opening that leads into the cave. Viewpoint-dependent directions can be misleading; focus on finding the entrance.
- Descend through the cave to the lower chamber, Dragon’s Lair. Guides place the egg near a sleeping Dragon.
- Pick up the egg only when you are ready to leave, then retrace your route out of the volcano.
- Continue from the volcano to your ranch. Recent guides report a 20-second timer to exit the volcano and a separate 20-second timer to reach the ranch. Those timings are guide-reported and may change in the game.
How to hatch a Griffin
Take the Volcanic Egg back to your ranch and hatch it to try for a Griffin. The Griffin is described as a possible hatch outcome, not a guaranteed result. The reviewed sources provide no reliable published Griffin hatch percentage, so there is no supported odds figure to use. One guide reports a 2.5T Hatch Luck requirement, but that figure is a secondary-source claim rather than an officially documented mechanic; check the current in-game requirements before relying on it.

The consistent guide-reported route is Dragon’s Lair inside the Volcano on Volcano Island, reached from the Desert through a small opening. However, the reviewed evidence does not include official documentation confirming the spawn, the flying-pet requirement, the two timers, or the hatch mechanics. Treat the instructions as a practical route reported by guides, not a guarantee that the current game version behaves identically.
