Yes—RevPDF is a downloadable PDF editor that its maker describes as free for desktop use and able to handle core editing offline. The current product pages present version 5.0 for Windows, macOS, and Linux, with tools for editing text and images, organizing pages, OCR, redaction, conversion, compression, and comparison. RevPDF says document processing happens on your device, but some ancillary functions and user-selected sharing can use the internet.
What RevPDF does
RevPDF is a desktop PDF application, not just a browser-based editor. Its product pages list editing existing text and images, arranging pages, signing, redacting, recognizing text with OCR, compressing and converting files, comparing PDFs, and building reusable workflows called Flows. RevPDF describes these document operations as local to the device. RevPDF product page RevPDF features

What “works offline” means
RevPDF says core desktop editing continues without an internet connection and that documents are processed on the device. Its product page states: “RevPDF does not automatically upload your files, scans or recognised text to RevPDF-operated servers for processing.” This is the company’s description of its own app, rather than an independent privacy audit. Offline does not mean that every function is network-free. RevPDF’s terms identify possible connections for updates, font downloads, mobile ads and store entitlement checks, Android scanner components, and OCR models that the user approves for download. If you share or export through another app or cloud provider, that service may receive the selected file. The terms also say local recovery copies, caches, reusable signatures, recent-file information, and preferences may be stored on the device. RevPDF terms

The key distinction is not simply offline versus online. RevPDF offers free desktop use and describes its processing as local; Acrobat is a subscription product with online and offline capabilities. Adobe says individual annual Acrobat subscriptions (continuous version) can remain offline for up to 30 days when the internet is unavailable. That makes a blanket claim that Acrobat cannot be used offline inaccurate. Adobe’s offline-use guidance Adobe Acrobat plans and comparison

RevPDF may suit someone who needs a no-subscription desktop editor and values local processing, especially when working away from reliable internet. Acrobat may remain the better fit for people who depend on its particular tools, paid-plan capabilities, or established organizational workflows. The official feature descriptions do not establish that RevPDF matches every Acrobat function or meets every professional or compliance requirement.

If your main task is recognizing text in scans and reviewing OCR results, ABBYY FineReader PDF is another option to compare. ABBYY positions it as an Acrobat alternative and documents a workflow that sends PDFs to an OCR Editor for recognition and verification. This does not show that it is a better choice for every user or that its feature set is identical to RevPDF’s. ABBYY FineReader PDF ABBYY OCR Editor help

- Try it if you want a free desktop PDF editor, need to work offline, and its listed editing, OCR, redaction, conversion, or page tools cover your tasks.
- Check the details first if a workflow depends on a network-connected feature, a specific Acrobat capability, organizational requirements, or a particular operating-system build.
- For sensitive files, review RevPDF’s terms and your own sharing choices; local processing claims do not prevent you from sending a file to a third-party service through export or sharing.
