The original NuPhy Halo96 is a 99-key, ANSI 96% mechanical keyboard that keeps a numpad and most desktop keys while taking up less desk space than a conventional full-size layout. It supports 2.4 GHz wireless, Bluetooth 5.0 and wired USB-C, and NuPhy lists its switches as hot-swappable. The main caveats for a buyer are that its battery-life figures are manufacturer lab estimates, this is not an independent hands-on review, and NuPhy’s original-product page currently lists its variants as sold out.
What is the original NuPhy Halo96?
NuPhy describes the Halo96 as a 99-key ANSI 96% keyboard. That compact layout retains the number pad and most of the keys expected on a desktop board, but groups them more tightly than a conventional full-size keyboard. Its listed footprint is 377 × 135 mm. Those are manufacturer specifications, not measurements taken for this review. NuPhy’s original Halo96 product page is the reference for the details below.

These specifications come from NuPhy’s undated product page, accessed in 2026. They describe the original Halo96, not the later Halo96 V2.

How long does its battery last?
NuPhy rates the battery at 4,000 mAh and publishes the following working-time estimates from its own laboratory tests. They are not independent measurements, and actual runtime will depend on use and lighting settings.

The large gap makes lighting an important factor if you plan to use the keyboard wirelessly for long stretches. The figures do not establish how long it will last at a particular brightness, with a particular connection mode, or under an individual user’s routine.
Can you change the Halo96’s switches or keycaps?
NuPhy lists the original Halo96 as hot-swappable, so switch changes are part of its stated feature set. However, the original product page cited here does not specify the precise switch-pin compatibility. Confirm the requirements for your exact board before buying replacement switches; do not assume specifications listed for the V2 apply to the original.

Keycaps can also be changed, but a replacement set needs to match the board’s ANSI 96% layout and its key sizes. NuPhy’s original page shows additional Halo96 keycaps as an accessory path; check fit and availability for the particular set before ordering. A NuPhy community thread includes a question about changing keys or switches, but it is an individual discussion and its replies cover multiple models, so it is not reliable evidence of compatibility for every Halo96. NuPhy lists the original package as including the keyboard, a 1.5 m USB-C to USB-A cable, a 2.4 GHz receiver, a keycap/switch puller, 18 extra keycaps, seven extra switches, a quick guide and stickers. Verify the package contents for the specific listing you are considering, particularly if buying from a reseller.
NuPhy’s page also shows a Twotone wrist rest for the 96% board and extra Halo96 keycaps. These are optional accessories, not included items in the package list above. Confirm the wrist rest’s fit and the accessory’s current availability before purchase.

How is the original Halo96 different from Halo96 V2?
The original and V2 are separate generations. The V2 product page adds details that should not be silently applied to the original, including an explicit 3/5-pin MX-style switch specification and polling rates of 1000 Hz over wired or 2.4 GHz connections and 125 Hz over Bluetooth. NuPhy also lists a 4,000 mAh battery for V2, but that does not make its other specifications interchangeable with the original. NuPhy Halo96 V2 product page.

Who should consider the NuPhy Halo96?
The original Halo96 is most relevant to someone who wants a numpad and broad desktop-key coverage in a more compact arrangement, with a choice of wireless or USB-C connection and the option to swap switches. It is less compelling if you need independently verified battery performance, specific confirmed switch-pin compatibility, or a product that can be purchased immediately from NuPhy: its original product page currently lists the variants as sold out. A current price, retailer stock and warranty or return terms have not been established here, so check the seller’s live listing and policies before committing.
