If Restream says your YouTube stream key is invalid, first check which key your encoder is sending. For a stream routed through Restream, OBS or another encoder must use the RTMP URL and key from the correct Restream stream card; a scheduled event has its own credentials. If the encoder values are correct but YouTube is rejecting the destination connection, reconnect the YouTube channel in Restream and follow its YouTube key-reset steps. The documented fixes are the same for India; the official guidance reviewed does not establish a special India-only cause.
First identify which connection is failing
A Restream broadcast has two credential handoffs: your encoder sends video to Restream using Restream’s RTMP URL and stream key, then Restream forwards it to the YouTube channel connected as a destination. An invalid-key message can therefore point to an outdated or mismatched encoder key, or a problem with the YouTube destination connection. Troubleshooting the right handoff avoids resetting the wrong credential.
In Restream, open the stream or scheduled event you intend to use. Confirm that the YouTube destination is the intended channel and is enabled. If the encoder is sending directly to YouTube instead of to Restream, check its YouTube stream settings instead; do not substitute a YouTube key for a Restream key or vice versa. Restream describes the encoder RTMP workflow in its streaming software guide and event-specific credentials in its scheduled-event guide.
Fix the encoder’s Restream URL and key
- Open the exact Restream stream or event. For a scheduled YouTube broadcast, use the RTMP details shown on that event’s card, not a key saved from another stream. A mismatched event key may send video to a separate stream rather than the planned event.
- Copy the current RTMP URL and stream key. Replace the saved values in OBS or your other encoder with the values from that Restream card. Restream says a key remains static unless it is reset, but a newly created RTMP stream has a different key, so an older saved key may no longer match.
- Check the encoder’s field format. In OBS, choose either the Restream account-link option or manual setup with “Use Stream Key.” With manual setup, enter the server/RTMP URL and key in their respective fields. Other mobile broadcasting apps vary: some have separate URL and key fields, while others expect one combined value with a slash. Follow that app’s field instructions rather than pasting a combined value into a separate key field.
- Save the changes and reconnect the encoder. Start the stream again and check whether the intended Restream event receives it. Restream documents both OBS setup routes in its OBS connection guide.
Repair the YouTube destination connection
If the encoder is using the correct Restream credentials but YouTube is not receiving the stream, check the destination side:

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- In the Restream stream setup, verify that the correct YouTube channel is connected and enabled.
- If its connection may have expired or permissions changed, remove that YouTube channel from Restream and add it again using Restream’s connection steps.
- As part of that reconnect procedure, open YouTube Studio’s stream settings and click Reset next to the stream key, as Restream instructs. If any encoder streams directly to YouTube using the old key, update that encoder with the new key. Do not confuse this YouTube key with the Restream encoder key.
- Confirm that live streaming is enabled for the YouTube channel. If YouTube says the channel is not eligible to go live, follow YouTube’s channel-specific enablement process before testing Restream again.
See Restream’s YouTube stream troubleshooting guide for its reconnection and key-reset procedure. YouTube access or eligibility issues are separate from a typo in the Restream encoder key.
Test each route to isolate the problem
Try a direct YouTube stream from the encoder, or use a private or unlisted test stream if appropriate. Restream also explains how to test a stream before going live.

- 4K HDMI Display: Enhance your visual experience with a hub capable of delivering 4K resolution at 30Hz in both mirror and extend modes. Please note that this hub is compatible with MacBook (macOS 12 and newer), Windows 10 and 11, ChromeOS, and laptops equipped with DP Alt Mode and Power Delivery. Note: This device is not compatible with Linux.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
- Direct YouTube streaming also fails: investigate YouTube live access, the YouTube key, and the channel connection. Restream recommends contacting YouTube support if the direct YouTube test still fails after its suggested checks.
- Direct YouTube streaming works, but delivery through Restream fails: focus on the Restream channel connection and whether the encoder is using the credentials for the intended Restream stream or event.
- The stream reaches a different YouTube broadcast: check for a stale or wrong event key. Scheduled events require their own RTMP credentials.
Common causes and fixes
| What you see | Likely place to check | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| The error began after creating a new Restream stream | The encoder may still have the previous stream’s key. | Copy the URL and key from the new stream card and replace the saved encoder values. |
| A scheduled broadcast does not attach to its planned event | The encoder may be using a general or older key instead of that event’s credentials. | Open the scheduled event in Restream and copy its own RTMP details. |
| OBS rejects manually entered credentials | The server URL and key may be in the wrong fields, or the saved values may be stale. | Use OBS’s account-link route or manually enter the current Restream URL and key in the intended fields. |
| A mobile app rejects the key | The app may expect URL and key separately, or as a combined value. | Check the app’s input format and use the correct Restream RTMP details. |
| Restream is configured correctly, but YouTube does not receive the broadcast | The connected channel, its live-stream access, or its YouTube key may need attention. | Verify the enabled destination, reconnect it if needed, and follow Restream’s YouTube key-reset steps. |
| The event was created in the YouTube mobile app | Restream notes that YouTube mobile-app events are mobile-only and attempts to send them through Restream fail. | Create or use an event type that supports delivery through Restream rather than sending that mobile-only event. |
Does the fix change for users in India?
The official Restream support material cited here does not document a separate India-specific stream-key rule or remedy. It also does not establish that a VPN, Indian account setting, local ISP restriction, or a particular regional server causes this invalid-key message. OBS may autodetect a server based on location, but Restream’s setup guidance does not link server region to invalid-key errors. Start with the credential and channel checks above rather than changing region or buying equipment.

If the underlying goal is to keep uploaded videos live on YouTube around the clock, StreamNeo is a separate cloud service—not a fix for Restream credentials. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo loops the uploaded video from the cloud, so no computer or home connection has to stay on. It streams to YouTube only and does not broadcast from a camera.
