If your YouTube stream keeps reconnecting through Restream, first find which connection is failing: your encoder-to-Restream link or Restream’s delivery to YouTube. Test a direct YouTube stream if possible, then work through the matching fixes below. Restream’s guidance is general; it does not establish an India-specific ISP or regional cause.
1. Find where the connection breaks
Watch the status in your encoder and Restream. If the encoder disconnects from Restream, investigate the local connection, encoder settings, or network rules. If the encoder stays connected to Restream but YouTube drops or fails to receive the stream, focus on the YouTube destination and channel authorization.

When feasible, run a brief direct stream from the encoder to YouTube without Restream. Restream recommends this as a way to isolate a YouTube destination problem. If the direct stream also fails, check YouTube eligibility and settings as well as your local network. If direct streaming works but delivery through Restream does not, focus on the Restream connection, channel authorization, and encoder setup. 2. Check OBS or another encoder
For OBS
- Confirm OBS is configured for the correct Restream account or service and that it is using the intended stream key. If you reset the key, update it in OBS before testing again.
- Set rate control to CBR (constant bitrate).
- Set the keyframe interval to 2 seconds. Restream’s OBS setup guidance recommends this setting.
- Use the automatically selected Restream server initially. If you need to troubleshoot the route, Restream also allows a server region to be selected manually.
- Start a test stream and observe whether OBS itself disconnects or remains connected while YouTube has trouble.

For Restream Studio
Studio uses browser traffic rather than an encoder’s RTMP or SRT connection. If you are using Studio, check browser-network access and the Studio-specific ports in the network section below; encoder ingest ports may not apply.
3. Set a bitrate your connection can sustain
A bitrate that is too high for a variable upload connection can make the stream unstable. Restream’s YouTube guidance says bitrate should not exceed half of upload speed as a rule of thumb. Treat that as a ceiling, not a target or a promise of stability: leave room for upload-speed variation and other household or office traffic. If the connection fluctuates, lower the bitrate or resolution and test again rather than relying on a single bitrate recommendation for every Indian network.

Restream says appropriate YouTube settings depend on resolution and frame rate. Its YouTube guidance recommends a 2-second keyframe interval and sets 4 seconds as the maximum. Restream Help Center: YouTube bitrate settings

Restream identifies network restrictions, firewalls, and web security gateways as possible causes of connection errors. The ports depend on the product and protocol in use; do not open every port simply because it appears on the list. If you are on a managed network, ask its administrator to check whether the relevant traffic is allowed. If filtering may be imposed by your ISP, ask the ISP about that specific traffic rather than assuming a country-wide restriction.

5. Try a wired connection if Wi-Fi is unstable
If your device and network support it, test with an Ethernet connection. Restream notes that wired networking can improve stability in compatible setups, but it is not a guaranteed fix for repeated Restream-to-YouTube disconnects. It will not resolve a blocked port, a YouTube authorization problem, or a fault at Restream. Mobile-data caps or throttling can also contribute to network issues, so check your plan and connection conditions if you are streaming over mobile data. Restream Help Center: network requirements

6. Repair the YouTube channel connection
If YouTube is the only failing destination, check that live streaming is enabled for the channel and that Restream is authorized for the correct YouTube account. For persistent YouTube-specific trouble, Restream’s guidance includes removing and re-adding the YouTube channel in Restream, then resetting the YouTube stream key and updating the encoder with the new key.

Also check how the YouTube event was created: events created in YouTube’s mobile app are mobile-only and may not work through Restream. If a direct YouTube test works but Restream delivery does not, prioritize channel authorization and the Restream-to-YouTube path. Restream Help Center: YouTube streaming issues

7. Use fallback or backup streaming only for continuity
Continuity features can reduce dead air while you diagnose a recurring disconnection, but they do not fix its underlying cause. Restream says disconnect protection can play fallback video for RTMP or SRT streams on Business and custom Enterprise plans, and it must be set up before going live. Its documented fallback playback choices are 5, 15, or 30 minutes.
Restream’s backup-streaming setup requires two encoders. It recommends using two separate network connections so one connection failure does not take down both feeds. Restream describes backup streaming as a custom Enterprise feature. Check Restream’s current plan details and setup instructions before relying on either feature, since availability may change.
