In desktop Chrome, change page zoom or font size under More > Settings > Appearance, and use the More menu’s Zoom control for a single page. To rearrange tabs, switch between horizontal and vertical tab positions. These controls change webpage content or tab layout—not the dimensions of a normal Chrome window, which you resize with your operating system’s window controls.
Choose the right control for what you want to resize
- Make a webpage bigger or smaller: Use page zoom. It can affect text, images and video.
- Change text size: Use Font size in Appearance settings; this does not enlarge every part of a page.
- Move tabs to the side: Switch to vertical tabs, then adjust the tab strip width.
- Change the browser window dimensions: Use your operating system’s window controls. Chrome’s page zoom does not resize the application window.
- Use the whole screen: Turn on full-screen mode. This is different from resizing a normal window.
Change page zoom for one site or all webpages
Adjust the current page
Open Chrome’s More menu and use the Zoom controls to increase or decrease the current page’s size. Keyboard shortcuts are also available: press Ctrl and + to enlarge or Ctrl and – to reduce on Windows and Linux; use Command and + or Command and – on Mac. ChromeOS uses Ctrl and + or Ctrl and –. The controls and labels may vary by Chrome release. See Google Chrome Help: Change text, image & video sizes (zoom).

Set a default zoom level
- Open More > Settings > Appearance.
- Choose a value beside Page zoom.
This default affects page content, including images and video, rather than text alone. Chrome also stores zoom levels for individual sites. To review them, open Settings > Privacy and security > Site settings > Additional content settings > Zoom levels. Use the X beside a site to remove its saved zoom setting.

Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Change font size without changing page zoom
- Open More > Settings > Appearance.
- Select an option beside Font size. For additional font options, choose Customize fonts.
Font size is separate from page zoom, so it targets typography instead of scaling the whole page. Some websites do not allow the browser to change only their text size; on those sites, this setting may not have the expected effect. Google outlines these options in its zoom and font-size instructions.

Move tabs to the side or make the tab strip narrower
Switch between vertical and horizontal tabs
To put tabs in a vertical strip at the side of the window, either right-click an empty area of the tab strip and choose Show Tabs Vertically, or go to Settings > Appearance and select Vertical under Tab position. Chrome also documents access through the More menu and, on Mac, the View menu. To return to the usual top-of-window layout, choose Show Tabs Horizontally or select Horizontal under Tab position.
Resize the vertical strip or save space horizontally
In vertical mode, the strip shows page titles in a scrollable list and its width can be resized. If you prefer horizontal tabs but want a more compact strip, right-click a tab and choose Pin. Pinned tabs take up less space and show only the site icon. These tab options are documented in Google Chrome Help: Manage tabs in Chrome.

Use full-screen mode or resize a normal window
Full-screen makes Chrome fill the screen; it is not the control for choosing a custom window size. Chrome’s documented shortcuts are F11 on Windows and Linux, Command + Control + F on Mac, and the full-screen key identified as F4 on ChromeOS. The Zoom menu also has a full-screen option. On ChromeOS, Chrome Help notes that full-screen hides browser controls such as the tabs.

For an ordinary, non-full-screen window, use your operating system’s window controls to move or resize Chrome. The Chrome help pages cited here describe zoom, fonts, tabs and full-screen mode, but do not provide operating-system-specific window-resizing steps.
