No. Resident Evil Requiem makes camera choice part of its design by supporting both first- and third-person play. The announced Resident Evil Veronica remake will be third-person only, so its success will depend on much more than updating movement and aiming.
Capcom describes Veronica as a remake of 2000’s Resident Evil Code: Veronica with high-quality RE ENGINE graphics, modernized gameplay and a “reimagined story.” That promise puts character motivation, pacing, atmosphere, combat readability and the original game’s uneven structure under scrutiny—not just its control scheme.

What Capcom has confirmed
Capcom announced Resident Evil Veronica on June 8, 2026, explicitly calling it a remake of the original Resident Evil Code: Veronica, released in 2000. The announcement targets a 2027 launch and says the project will preserve the original’s appeal while reimagining its story in RE ENGINE.

Producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi later clarified, in comments reported by Nintendo Life, that Veronica will not offer a first-person/third-person toggle.

- Amazon Exclusive - 2 sided poster included in every game!
- Grace Ashcroft, an FBI intelligence analyst who is introverted and easily scared, representing a new type of character for the Resident Evil series. Grace will experience horror from the same perspective as the player as she learns to overcome her fears throughout the course of the story.
- For the first time ever in Resident Evil history, players will be able to freely switch between both first- and third-person perspectives throughout the game.
- An Anniversary to Remember: With March 2026 marking the Resident Evil series’ 30-year anniversary, Resident Evil Requiem marks its own milestone in the franchise.
- Pre-orders for Resident Evil Requiem are now open, with the bonus of Grace’s costume: Apocalypse. Please note that the picture weapon does not come with the costume, but it can be obtained in-game.
That is a significant contrast with Resident Evil Requiem, Capcom’s ninth mainline installment. Requiem was announced for February 27, 2026, and Capcom’s integrated report describes it as supporting both viewpoints in its Raccoon City story. The two remakes therefore represent different answers to the question of how a modern Resident Evil should present space and danger.
Requiem’s camera experiment is not a template Veronica can copy
Switching perspective can change how players read distance, corners, enemy attacks and environmental clues. A first-person view can narrow attention and intensify surprise; a third-person view can make animation, positioning and the protagonist’s physical reactions easier to read. Requiem can use that contrast as an authored feature because its design supports both modes.
Veronica’s fixed third-person presentation removes that particular choice. It also removes a potential source of inconsistency: every encounter, cinematic transition and traversal challenge can be staged around one camera language. That consistency can be an advantage if Capcom builds levels, enemy behavior and animation around the viewpoint instead of treating the camera as a cosmetic setting.

What a fixed camera cannot do is repair a weak dramatic connection or a lurching campaign structure. Those are the remake’s harder problems.
The six tests that matter more than a perspective toggle
1. Camera language and movement
Third-person play needs predictable rules. The remake should establish how far the camera sits from Claire and Chris, how it behaves near walls, how it frames narrow corridors and how quickly it responds during attacks. A stable visual grammar lets tension come from level design and enemy timing rather than from fighting the camera.
2. Combat readability and resource pressure
Modernized controls should make aiming, dodging, weapon switching and inventory decisions legible without removing the pressure that defines survival horror. Enemy wind-ups need to be visible enough to read, while ammunition, healing and safe space still force choices. A smoother control loop is useful only if encounters remain threatening.

- FEAR COMES HOME -- Fear, combat, exploration, and item management: these are the four pillars of survival horror, a genre that has never been more masterfully executed than in the gameplay of Resident Evil. The horror continues in the ground-breaking Resident Evil 7. Step into the new Isolated View and experience true survival horror in a world created by the all-new RE Engine.
- DEEP IN THE BAYOU - When Ethan Winters opened his inbox, the last thing he expected was to find an email from his wife; she had been missing for three years. The message was simple: "Come get me," and an address in Louisiana. This leads Ethan to a decrepit mansion in the heart of the bayou. The place has a seriously creepy vibe, but Ethan continues his search – until a stranger attacks him and knocks him unconscious. Ethan has no idea what awaits him when he wakes up...for he is now in the clutches of the Baker family.
- A NEW PERSPECTIVE -- In RESIDENT EVIL 7, we're changing the way you interact with the world. For this next major entry in the series, play from a first-person point of view, dramatically increasing your ability to become fully absorbed in the world we have created.
- NEW FOR PLAYSTATION5 – Upgraded features new to the PlayStation5 version of the game include a higher frame rate, 3D audio, added ray tracing, and engaging DualSense support for Haptic Feedback and Adaptive Triggers.
3. Claire’s escape and Chris’s return
Claire’s opening crisis and Chris’s later arrival should feel like parts of one escalating cause-and-effect chain. The sibling handoff cannot be a simple character swap inserted because the original had two protagonists. Their objectives, discoveries and risks need to explain why control moves from one Redfield to the other and why the second campaign matters to the first.

The original’s movement between Rockfort Island and its later locations creates a structural challenge. The remake can preserve that identity while tightening backtracking, clarifying objectives and giving each setting a distinct dramatic purpose. Modern navigation should remove needless friction without turning every route into a straight corridor.
5. Horror before action escalation
Veronica has to manage a tonal climb. Early isolation, uncertainty and limited resources establish horror; later confrontations can become more forceful without erasing that atmosphere. Enemy density, weapon availability, music and set-piece frequency should support a deliberate escalation rather than an abrupt switch from dread to spectacle.

- Reawaken a Classic – Resident Evil 4 preserves the essence of the original game, now reconstructed using Capcom’s proprietary RE Engine to deliver realistic visuals and additional narrative depth to the iconic story that was not possible at the time of the original release.
- Modernized Gameplay – The team from 2019’s Resident Evil 2 returns to build upon the series’ modern approach to survival horror. Engage in frenzied combat with the Ganados villagers, explore a European village gripped by madness, and solve puzzles to access new areas and collect useful items for Leon and Ashley’s constant struggle to survive.
- Overwhelming Hordes – Face hordes of rabid enemies that threaten to overwhelm Leon with even more diverse methods of attack than in the original release.
- Survive on a Knife’s Edge – Years of intense training have taught Leon new ways to use his knife, helping to even the odds against the unrelenting onslaught of enemies. By parrying enemy attacks, you can avoid debilitating damage and evade lunging enemies seeking to grab Leon and hold him in place. Make smart use of scavenged knives to deliver precise finishing moves on vulnerable enemies, and even use the element of surprise to quietly dispatch unsuspecting foes before they break.

6. Fidelity without fossilizing dated design
“Reimagined story” gives Capcom permission to revise transitions, motivations and pacing, but the result still needs to be recognizably Code: Veronica. The test is not whether every room or line survives unchanged. It is whether the remake preserves the setting, sibling focus and Ashford-centered conflict while eliminating friction that no longer serves tension.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why the story promise is the real remake test
Capcom’s wording matters because it promises more than a visual overhaul. A reimagined narrative should make the protagonists’ decisions understandable in the moment, connect the island crisis to the later locations and give the antagonistic conflict consequences that carry across both playable leads.
That does not require replacing the original identity with a different genre. It requires stronger connective tissue: clear reasons for Claire’s actions, a meaningful setup for Chris’s return, and discoveries that change what the player understands about the crisis. If those links remain weak, sharper controls will only make the same structural problems easier to operate.

- Out-of-This-World Adventure – Stranded on a lunar space station, Hugh encounters Diana, a mysterious android resembling a young girl. While searching for a way back to Earth, they fight to survive against Bots directed to “neutralize” intruders.
- Hack & Shoot – Use each character’s distinct abilities to take down enemies. In combat, Diana can hack foes to expose weaknesses so Hugh can blast them with weapons. This unique fusion of gameplay offers an action-packed experience like no other.
- Space Exploration – Teamwork also extends to traversing the station. Utilize the thrusters in Hugh’s futuristic suit to dash and hover around while Diana hacks security systems to solve puzzles. Only together can they overcome all obstacles.
- Collect and Customize – Gather materials while exploring the station to unlock upgrades, build out a diverse arsenal of weapons, obtain new outfits, and more. Once you’re ready, use the new gear in battle and take on even greater challenges!
Third-person only can still deliver modern horror
A single viewpoint can give Veronica a more coherent visual identity than a selectable system. The camera can keep the player close enough to read character animation while reserving distance, obstruction and framing for deliberate scares. Level geometry can create uncertainty without relying on a sudden switch into first person, and enemy animation can communicate danger without making every attack a reaction-time test.
The cost is that Capcom cannot use perspective changes to mark every shift in mood or context. Pacing, sound, lighting, blocking and encounter design must do that work. The fixed choice therefore raises the standard for all the surrounding systems.

What players should expect from the comparison
Requiem demonstrates that Capcom is willing to make viewpoint a meaningful design decision. Veronica demonstrates the opposite strategy: commit to third person and spend the remake budget on consistency, dramatic structure and readable encounters. Neither approach is automatically better, and no controlled usability test or player-satisfaction result establishes a winner.
