Which Resident Evil Requiem difficulty should you choose?
| Your preference | Choose | What the available official information establishes |
|---|---|---|
| You are new to Resident Evil or want help aiming | Casual | Capcom recommends Casual for people experiencing the series for the first time and says it supports aiming, making enemies easier to target. Capcom’s gameplay announcement (Japanese; paraphrased in translation). |
| You want the regular survival-horror experience | A Standard option | Capcom confirms multiple difficulty settings, but its reviewed English announcement does not provide a complete mode-by-mode comparison or precise tuning values. Capcom’s March 2026 announcement. |
| You want Grace’s saves to use a resource | Standard Classic | Capcom says ink ribbons are required to save during Grace gameplay. This adds save-resource management; it does not, by itself, establish harder combat tuning. Capcom’s gameplay announcement (Japanese; paraphrased in translation). |
| You are deciding between first- and third-person | Choose separately | PlayStation says both Grace and Leon’s stories can be played in either perspective. PlayStation’s game page. |
What Casual changes
Casual is the clearest choice for a first series playthrough or for players who want assistance lining up shots. Capcom describes it as recommended for newcomers and notes that aiming support makes targeting enemies easier. That is the specific supported distinction; the official information cited here does not give exact enemy-health, damage, or other numerical changes.

What Standard Classic changes
In Grace’s gameplay, saving on Standard Classic requires ink ribbons. This makes saving part of resource management: you must account for ribbons rather than treating every save opportunity as free. Capcom presents the rule as a nod to older entries in the series. The documented difference is about saving during Grace’s sections, not proof that every part of the game has a different combat difficulty.

How to think about the Standard options
If you want the regular survival-horror feel and do not specifically want ribbon-limited saves, choose a Standard option that is not Classic. Capcom confirms that Requiem has multiple settings for players from newcomers to experienced fans, but the reviewed official English material does not enumerate every mode or explain exact differences between all options. Avoid choosing based on assumed enemy damage, health, unlock conditions, or a named hardest mode unless those details are confirmed in the game or official materials.

Difficulty and camera perspective are separate decisions
Requiem offers first- and third-person views, and PlayStation says both views are available for Grace and Leon’s stories. Pick the perspective that feels comfortable; it does not replace or define the difficulty choice.
The protagonists’ sections also emphasize different play styles. PlayStation describes Grace as working with limited supplies and resource management, while Leon’s combat is more action-oriented, using firearms, melee, and parries. Those differences can help you anticipate the feel of each character’s sections, but the available source does not establish that a chosen difficulty behaves identically for both characters.
