A BlockBeats relay of a Financial Times report attributes the view that Hyperliquid falls outside the Monetary Authority of Singapore’s (MAS) regulatory scope to the protocol’s decentralized nature—but to unnamed people familiar with MAS’s thinking, not to an on-record MAS statement.
What the report says—and what it does not establish
The reported explanation is that Hyperliquid’s decentralized structure places it outside Singapore’s regulatory scope. The account is attributed to people familiar with MAS’s thinking, as relayed by BlockBeats from a Financial Times report. It should not be read as a direct public quotation, formal MAS ruling, or full explanation of how the regulator would classify every activity connected with Hyperliquid.

That distinction matters: the available account describes a reported regulatory view, while Singapore’s public guidance sets out general rules for decentralized-finance applications and crypto derivatives. Neither turns the reported explanation into a platform-specific adjudication.
How Hyperliquid Labs can be based in Singapore without the protocol being regulated there
“Hyperliquid Labs,” “Hyperliquid,” and “Hyperliquid DEX” refer to different things. The company’s location does not by itself determine the regulatory status of the network or exchange application.

| Term | What the cited material says | What that does—and does not—tell you |
|---|---|---|
| Hyperliquid Labs | In a May 21, 2025 submission to the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), the company said it was “based in Singapore” and was “a core contributor” to the Hyperliquid blockchain. | This establishes the company’s own description of its base and role. It does not establish that MAS licenses or regulates the protocol. |
| Hyperliquid network | The CFTC submission describes Hyperliquid as a general-purpose layer-one blockchain. | A network’s structure and its contributors’ locations are separate questions from whether a particular service falls under a financial regulator’s rules. |
| Hyperliquid DEX | A SEC-filed registration statement describes it as a decentralized perpetual-futures platform implemented at protocol level, with an on-chain order book. | This is a technical description in a securities filing, not a determination of Singapore jurisdiction. |
The same SEC filing describes leveraged long and short positions subject to margin requirements and funding payments. Those features explain why the platform raises derivatives-related questions; they do not, on their own, settle which regulator has jurisdiction.
What Singapore’s public guidance says about DeFi and crypto derivatives
Singapore government investor guidance from MoneySense, last updated September 29, 2026, says MAS does not license or regulate decentralized-finance applications. It also says MAS’s crypto-derivatives regulations currently apply only to derivatives listed on Approved Exchanges. This is general guidance, not a finding about Hyperliquid specifically.

- Engineered to last up to 25 years: Waterproof (IP69K), shockproof and tested for extreme temperatures from −25°C to 50°C. A durable cold wallet with long‑term protection and independently audited security.
- Trusted by 6 million users worldwide (4.9 App Store, 4.8 Google Play) - buy, sell, swap, stake, and spend cryptocurrency directly. The secure offline storage wallet designed for how people actually use crypto wallets
The guidance also cautions that crypto derivatives can be volatile and leveraged, and that consumers may lose their funds. MAS protections do not shield consumers from crypto losses or a provider’s collapse. A company’s Singapore base should therefore not be treated as evidence that a user’s trading activity is protected by MAS.
What the Investor Alert List entry means
Hyperliquid announced that it had been added to MAS’s Investor Alert List. In its statement, the company said: “IAL listing does not constitute a ban, an enforcement action, or a finding of wrongdoing.” It also said it “is not, and has never claimed to be, licensed or authorised by MAS.” Those are Hyperliquid’s characterizations of the listing and its own authorization status; an alert-list entry is not proof of wrongdoing or a ban.

The listing should not be confused with regulatory approval, either. Hyperliquid’s statement explicitly says the company has not claimed MAS authorization, and the cited general guidance does not say that the alert-list entry makes the protocol subject to Singapore’s licensing rules.

The central point is limited but important: a Singapore-based contributor, a decentralized network, and a derivatives application are not interchangeable for regulatory purposes. The public guidance and reported account help explain why those facts can coexist, but the reporting does not provide an on-record MAS ruling about Hyperliquid’s exact status.

For users, the regulatory question is separate from the trading risk. Hyperliquid’s perpetual futures use leverage, margin requirements, and funding payments; positions can be liquidated, and losses can occur. Do not infer licensing, MAS supervision, or consumer protection from the company’s location or from the Investor Alert List entry alone.
