How to reply to the sender or everyone
- Open Mail and tap the email you want to answer.
- Tap the Reply button.
- Choose Reply to address only the sender, or Reply All to address the sender and the other original recipients.
- Type your response and tap Send.
Choose the recipient option before composing. Reply All sends your response to the other people on the original message as well as the sender, so check the recipient list before sending if you are unsure who is included.

How to forward an email to a new recipient
- Open the message in Mail and tap the Reply button.
- Tap Forward.
- If the original message has attachments, choose Include or Don’t Include.
- Enter the new recipient’s email address or addresses.
- Tap in the message area above the forwarded email to add a note, if you want.
- Check the recipients and attachment choice, then tap Send.
The forwarded message appears below any note you add. Attachments are not necessarily included: make the Include or Don’t Include choice that fits what you intend to share.

How to quote only part of an email in a reply
To reply to a specific passage, touch and hold the first word, then drag the selection handles through the last word you want to quote. Tap the Reply button, choose Reply, and write your response.

Turn off indentation for quoted text
Open Settings > Apps > Mail, then turn off Increase Quote Level under Composing.
Is Smart Reply required?
No. You can write and send a reply manually using the steps above. Apple also documents Smart Reply, an optional Apple Intelligence feature that can draft a response from a suggested reply. Its availability depends on eligible hardware, software, language, and region; it is not required to reply or forward an email.
