The report describes the controllers as seemingly set to reach markets outside Europe, but the evidence cited is a listing sighting rather than a Nintendo announcement. What Nintendo has announced for Europe
Nintendo’s European rollout, reported by Nintendo Life on July 6, 2026, lists revised controllers for early 2027. This is a separate regional announcement; it does not confirm availability in Japan or Canada. The rollout is described as rolling, so timing may vary between markets. Nintendo Life’s report lists Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Saudi Arabia, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Norway, Oman, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Arab Emirates and the United Kingdom.

What can you buy in North America now?
Nintendo of America currently lists a wireless GameCube Controller for Nintendo Switch 2 through the Nintendo Store in the United States and Canada. The price on Nintendo’s FAQ is $64.99 USD or $84.99 CAD, plus shipping and tax. Purchase is limited to one per Nintendo Account with a paid Nintendo Switch Online or Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership; a free trial does not qualify. Do not assume that this listing is the reported “-01” model or a replaceable-battery revision. Nintendo’s FAQ describes the controller as having a built-in battery charged through USB Type-C, but does not identify it as the revised product. Confirm the product model and packaging with Nintendo or the retailer before buying if replaceable-battery status is the deciding factor.

Compatibility and membership are separate questions
Nintendo says this wireless GameCube controller works with Nintendo Switch 2, not the original Nintendo Switch. It is designed for the GameCube – Nintendo Classics collection. Because it lacks some buttons and features found on other Switch 2 controllers, Nintendo cautions that it may present issues with other games. Button remapping is unavailable in System Settings, although individual games in the GameCube Classics library may allow it. Access to that collection requires Switch Online + Expansion Pack, even though either paid Switch Online membership tier qualifies a customer to buy the controller.

If a replaceable-battery revision is essential, wait for an official announcement or a listing that clearly identifies the correct model; the Japan and Canada report alone is not enough to establish what will be sold. If you want the currently listed GameCube controller for Switch 2, use Nintendo’s listing to check eligibility, price and stock, and treat it as the current product—not as a confirmed revised model. No verified overseas price or purchase listing for the alleged -01 revisions is established.

For Europe, Nintendo Life’s reporting puts both revised controllers in early 2027, with a rolling market-by-market rollout. Nintendo Wire also reports the same European sequence and says purchase through Nintendo’s online store requires an active Switch Online subscription; that report supports the European timeline, not a Japan or Canada launch.
