To remove the Bing image from the Windows 11 taskbar Search box while keeping Search, turn off Search highlights. Right-click the taskbar, choose Taskbar settings, expand Search, and switch off Show search highlights. The label or layout may differ by Windows 11 build. Microsoft’s taskbar guidance documents the available Search display options.
Turn off the image and keep taskbar Search
- Right-click an empty area of the taskbar and select Taskbar settings.
- Find and expand Search.
- Turn off Show search highlights (or the equivalent Search highlights control in your build).
This disables the highlights display in the taskbar Search box without removing Search. Microsoft describes Search highlights as showing “interesting moments from around the world directly in their search box.” The setting name and exact layout can vary across Windows 11 builds.

Choose a different taskbar Search display
If you want to change more than the image, use the other display choices in the same Taskbar settings > Search area. Microsoft documents options to hide Search, show only its icon, show its search box, or show Search highlights.
| What you want | Setting | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Remove the image but keep Search | Turn off Search highlights | Search remains available; its highlights display is removed. |
| Remove Search from the taskbar | Choose Hidden or Hide, depending on the build | The taskbar Search control is removed. |
| Show Search as an icon | Choose the icon-only option | Search remains accessible without the full search box. |
For the complete set of documented taskbar options, see Microsoft’s Customize the Taskbar in Windows guide.

If you meant Bing website suggestions
Bing’s suggestions as you type are controlled separately from the Windows taskbar image. To change that setting, open Bing Settings and clear See search suggestions as you type. This affects suggestions on Bing, not Windows taskbar Search highlights. Follow Microsoft’s instructions for turning Bing search suggestions off or on.
