Samsung DeX is different: it gives supported Galaxy tablets a desktop-like workspace for the tablet’s own apps. You can use DeX and a remote-access app together, but neither replaces the other.

Remote access reaches another computer
A remote-access app connects your tablet to a separate computer or service. Depending on the destination, you may be able to view and control a Windows, Mac, or Linux computer, or use a Microsoft-hosted Windows environment. The host, service, account, and setup determine what is available.

DeX changes the tablet’s workspace
Samsung DeX arranges compatible tablet apps in a desktop-like interface. It can be used on the tablet itself or, for supported models and setups, with an external display. Samsung’s DeX workspace guidance describes model and software-dependent capabilities. DeX is not itself a connection to your PC, though a compatible remote-access client can run within a DeX workspace.

Microsoft documents Windows App for Android and Chrome OS across multiple Windows destinations. Its connection guide covers the available destination types; its Remote Desktop support page describes accessing a remote PC. Do not assume that connecting to a PC and connecting to Windows 365 or Azure Virtual Desktop have identical requirements.

Google’s Chrome Remote Desktop instructions for Android explain how a mobile device can access a Mac, Windows, or Linux computer after remote access has been set up on the host. Choose based on the computer or service you need to reach, rather than assuming one client is universally best.
Check your Galaxy Tab and app compatibility
DeX support and capabilities vary by tablet model and software generation. Samsung documents selected Galaxy Tabs for standalone DeX and describes wired and wireless external-display modes; confirm your exact model and current One UI release in Samsung’s DeX guidance before planning a particular display setup.

App availability in DeX is not guaranteed just because an app appears in a store. Samsung says, “Some apps may not be available depending on the region, device OS, or the app store being used,” and cautions that not all apps are compatible with DeX. See Samsung’s app guidance for DeX.
Plan for input, display, and access requirements
Keyboard and mouse
A keyboard is optional; it does not supply remote-access software or establish a connection. Samsung documents keyboard use with DeX and separately sold Book Cover Keyboard accessories on its DeX apps and services page. A compatible Bluetooth keyboard can make longer text entry more practical, but verify model fit and layout before buying. A mouse is another possible input accessory, not a requirement for remote access.

Host setup, accounts, and work access
Confirm that you can access and configure the target computer or service, and identify any account or work credentials it requires. For a managed work device or hosted desktop, follow the organization’s approved connection instructions; the cited product pages do not establish a universal set of enterprise controls or permissions.
Performance and the exact setup
Remote-session latency, image quality, keyboard mapping, and reliability depend on the particular tablet, network, host, and app. The official guidance cited here does not compare those details on a named Galaxy Tab, so test the intended setup rather than treating performance as guaranteed.

A practical way to decide
- Identify the destination. Is it a Windows PC, a Microsoft-hosted Windows environment, or a Mac, Windows, or Linux computer configured for Google’s remote access?
- Choose a client for that destination. Check the current official requirements for the specific service and connection type before installing or configuring it.
- Check the tablet. Confirm your Tab model, software version, desired DeX mode, and the app’s availability and behavior on that device.
- Add accessories only if useful. Choose a compatible keyboard or mouse for your work style; neither is necessary to create remote access.
- Test your real workflow. Try the intended host, network, display, and input setup before relying on it for extended work.
