Its base package is KB925876. Microsoft historically distributed it through its download channels, but the original installer’s current availability has not been verified; an old listing is not proof that a working, authenticated download remains available.
What KB925876 is—and what it is not
KB925876 is the base Remote Desktop Connection 6.0 update, also called Terminal Services Client 6.0. Microsoft’s archived KB describes it as a way for supported XP and Server 2003 computers to use newer Terminal Services features associated with Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008. Microsoft’s 2007 update-catalog record classified it as a non-security update. Microsoft Update Catalog record for KB925876; archived Microsoft KB 925876.

The update did not require a Vista or Server 2008 client. It could still connect to earlier Windows terminal servers and desktops, but the newer features described for RDC 6.0 required the remote computer to run Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008. Installing the client therefore did not add those server-side capabilities to an older remote computer.

Microsoft’s 2007 catalog listed approximate package sizes of 1,620 KB for Windows XP and 1,518 KB for Windows Server 2003. Those are historical catalog figures, not verified sizes for files currently hosted or circulated elsewhere. Microsoft Update Catalog record.
How KB925877 differs from the client update
KB925877 is not another name for the base client and cannot replace KB925876. It supplies the MUI interface language layer for RDC 6.0. The archived instructions say to install the English RDC 6.0 client first, then install the matching MUI. XP requires XP SP2, its SP2 MUI, and the English client; Server 2003 requires the matching SP1 or SP2 MUI and the English client. The archive says the MUI installation does not require a restart, and notes that the Start-menu shortcut remains in English. Archived Microsoft KB 925877.

Server 2003 SP1-to-SP2 installation caveat
The archived KB warns about installing an earlier RDC 6.0 build on Windows Server 2003 SP1 and then upgrading the operating system to SP2. In that sequence, the update could disappear from Add or Remove Programs and associated files could lose their signatures. The KB’s stated workarounds are to install the April 24, 2007 client release before upgrading, or reinstall the client after SP2. This is a historical servicing warning, not a recommendation to install an obsolete client on a currently used system. Archived Microsoft KB 925876.

Is the old RDC 6.0 download still available from Microsoft?
The historical catalog entry and archived KB establish that Microsoft published the update; they do not establish that the original installer is currently served from a working Microsoft endpoint. Do not treat a third-party mirror as an authenticated Microsoft download. If you already have an installer, verify that its publisher and digital signature are Microsoft before running it. No verified checksum or current download endpoint is established here.

Does installing KB925876 make an old PC secure?
No. KB925876 was classified as a non-security update, and Microsoft’s later MS09-044 bulletin documents security updates affecting RDC 6.0/6.1 binaries on Windows XP and Windows Server 2003. Having the 6.0 client—or an old package bearing KB925876—does not show that a machine has all later security updates or is secure today. Microsoft security bulletin MS09-044.
