Start by checking which regional REDMI Note 17 Pro variant and software build you have. Menu labels can differ, so use Settings search if a path below is missing. For battery drain, first identify apps doing substantial background work; for privacy, review app permissions, autostart, and HyperOS’s personalized-ad control. These changes are choices to review, not guaranteed battery-life gains.
Check your model and software before changing settings
Xiaomi’s regional product pages do not give one universal specification for this phone. The India page identifies HyperOS 3 and Android 16 and lists a typical battery capacity of 9,000 mAh; Xiaomi México lists 8,340 mAh typical capacity. Those are market-specific published figures, and Xiaomi’s pages do not explain the discrepancy. Check your own device and regional product page rather than applying either number to every REDMI Note 17 Pro. Xiaomi India’s product page and Xiaomi México’s specifications provide the respective regional details.

Settings paths may also change with region, localization, and software updates. If a menu is not where expected, search Settings for terms such as “battery,” “autostart,” “permissions,” or “ad services.”
Find what is using battery before restricting apps
Open the phone’s battery usage view and look for apps with unusually high consumption or background activity. Start with the app-level evidence on your own phone rather than restricting every app: some apps need background access for alerts, syncing, or other functions you rely on.

Xiaomi documents battery optimization as a phone feature, but its available guidance does not establish one exhaustive menu path that applies to every REDMI Note 17 Pro regional build. Use Settings search for “battery” or “battery optimization” if you want to locate the relevant controls on your software version.
Review autostart and background activity app by app
Autostart lets apps launch or run background processes without you opening them. Xiaomi’s MIUI 13 privacy documentation describes autostart management as a user control and warns that unwanted autostarts can affect performance and create privacy or security risks. That document is for an older MIUI release, so treat it as background on the control—not as a guaranteed HyperOS 3 menu path. Search Settings for “autostart” if the label or location differs. Xiaomi’s MIUI 13 Privacy White Paper describes the older controls.

Turn off autostart or restrict background activity only for apps that do not need it. After changing a setting, check whether the app still delivers the notifications or performs the background functions you expect. If it does not, restore the access it needs. Blanket restrictions can trade less background activity for delayed alerts or interrupted features.
Give post-update battery drain time to settle
If faster drain started just after a system update, do not treat the first observation as proof of a defective battery. Xiaomi says background optimization, app recompilation, system re-indexing, and related tasks can temporarily use extra power after an update. Its FAQ does not specify a fixed settling period, so monitor battery use and reassess rather than relying on an exact number of hours or days. Xiaomi UK’s REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G FAQ explains the post-update behavior.

Turn off personalized-ad recommendations if you prefer
Xiaomi’s HyperOS support instructions give this path: Settings > Privacy & Security > Security > Additional settings > Ad services > Personalized ad recommendations. Switch off the personalized-ad recommendation control. If the labels differ on your build, search Settings for “ad services.” Xiaomi Privacy Support documents this control.
This is a preference about personalized-ad recommendations, not a promise to remove all ads, disable every recommendation, or stop all data processing. Xiaomi’s privacy policy describes data uses associated with services such as permission management and battery optimization; it says some information is stored locally while other identifiers or information may be processed outside the device. The exact handling depends on the service described in the policy, so do not assume all related data stays on the phone or that all of it is uploaded. Xiaomi’s security-pad privacy policy provides further detail.

Review app permissions and special access
Check permissions app by app and remove access an app does not need for the way you use it. Xiaomi’s MIUI 13 privacy documentation describes permission controls, but some system apps may not be subject to the same controls; its older menu details are not a guaranteed path for HyperOS 3. Search Settings for “permissions” or “special permissions” to find the controls on your build.

For one device-specific example, Xiaomi’s FAQ gives this path for picture-in-picture access: Settings > Security & privacy > More security & privacy > Special permissions > Picture-in-picture. This is a special-permission control, not a battery-saving setting. Xiaomi’s FAQ lists the path.

What these settings can—and cannot—promise
Reviewing unnecessary background activity may help you reduce activity you do not want, while privacy controls let you make specific choices about permissions, autostart, and ad personalization. The available Xiaomi sources do not provide device-specific before-and-after tests or setting-by-setting battery savings for the REDMI Note 17 Pro. They also do not establish a guaranteed gain from changing refresh rate, always-on display, location, 5G, or dark mode, so no percentage or extra hours can be promised for those adjustments.
