If your Redmi 17C 5G started losing charge faster just after a system update, Xiaomi says temporary background work—such as app optimization, recompilation and system re-indexing—can increase power use. It usually settles within a few charge cycles. If the drain continues, check which apps and activities are using power, then adjust settings before seeking service for persistent drain with overheating.
Why battery drain may increase after an update
After an update, the phone may optimize apps and rebuild system indexes in the background. Xiaomi says these tasks can temporarily use more power and generally stabilize within a few charge cycles. Find what is using the battery
Open the phone’s battery or power-consumption screen and review the usage ranking. Menu wording and location can vary by software version and region. Look for an app or activity using an unusually large share, especially one you have not actively used.

- If one app stands out, limit its background activity or close it when you are not using it.
- If screen use is prominent, try lowering brightness. The Redmi 17C 5G has a 6.9-inch display with support for up to 120Hz; if your software offers a refresh-rate setting, try a lower option and see whether it suits your needs.
- If the phone is idle but losing charge quickly, use a short comparison with radios or connectivity you do not need turned off. Xiaomi’s general guidance includes flight mode as a way to compare standby consumption; this is a diagnostic check, not a model-specific battery benchmark.

Settings that can help reduce routine power use
Reduce display demand
Lower brightness when comfortable, and choose a lower refresh rate if that control is available on your software build. The display’s maximum refresh rate is not a promise that it is always operating at 120Hz, and the amount saved depends on how you use the phone.
Restrict unnecessary background activity
Close unused apps and review apps that are allowed to keep working in the background. Avoid restricting apps whose notifications or background functions you rely on unless you are willing to miss updates.

Use Battery Saver when needed
Turn on Battery Saver when you need the charge to last longer. Xiaomi also advises avoiding very low charge where practical. Xiaomi’s battery guidance covers these general power-saving measures.
Battery capacity is not a screen-time guarantee
Xiaomi lists the Redmi 17C 5G with a dual-cell, 6,000 mAh typical lithium-polymer battery and 33W fast charging; these are manufacturer specifications, not a guarantee of any user’s screen-on time. Xiaomi UK also claims up to 105 hours of music playback, while cautioning that its laboratory results may differ from actual use. Xiaomi India says the battery is designed to retain 80% or more capacity after 1,000 full charge cycles. This is an undated manufacturer claim, not an independent measurement. Xiaomi India’s Redmi 17C 5G page gives the claim.
Fast charging and fast battery drain are different problems
A charger affects how quickly the phone replenishes its charge; buying a charger is not an established fix for abnormal discharge. Xiaomi says charging power can vary with the charger and cable, remaining charge, temperature and heavy phone use while charging. If charging is slow, check accessory compatibility and avoid intensive use during charging. The phone’s listed 33W charging specification does not mean it will charge at that rate in every condition. When to contact Xiaomi service
If rapid drain continues and the phone repeatedly overheats, contact Xiaomi after-sales service for inspection. Xiaomi’s FAQ says the rear shell does not support self-disassembly, so do not open the phone to investigate or attempt a battery replacement. Check Xiaomi’s model-specific guidance and use the support channel for your region.
