A Reddit user says an MSI RTX 5090 stopped appearing and that MSI told them software they used for AI had burned a chip. The user also says the card was imported from Taiwan because local stock was unavailable. The account does not independently confirm that MSI supplied a replacement, and the alleged software-related diagnosis has not been verified.
What the customer says happened
An indexed Reddit post titled “Just RMA’ed RTX 5090” describes a card that stopped appearing and says the user was told their AI software had burned a chip. The post excerpt includes the user’s wording, “my AI software burned out the chip.” These are the poster’s account and reported explanation, not an independently confirmed technical finding. The original Reddit page could not be retrieved, and no independent confirmation or MSI comment about this particular RMA was located.

The poster also says the RTX 5090 had been imported from Taiwan because local stock was unavailable. That detail does not establish where the customer sought service, whether the card was bought through an authorized channel, or whether the warranty applied. The available account does not independently substantiate the headline’s claim that MSI imported a replacement unit or went the extra mile.

What MSI’s public guidance says about damage and warranty assessment
MSI’s customer-induced-damage guidance, published December 26, 2024, says the company offers limited technical support and repair service during the warranty period. Damage resulting from improper use may lead to an additional repair estimate or a voided warranty. Examples listed include foreign objects or oxidation on a PCB, mechanical damage, and PCB damage. MSI says the service center makes the actual assessment; the article does not identify AI software or AI workloads as a general cause of GPU damage, nor does it verify the reported diagnosis in this case. How to check the right MSI support route
MSI’s global graphics-card support page links to warranty-status checks, service and RMA information, downloads, support articles, and contact options. MSI USA separately lists warranty information, warranty-status lookup, RMA tracking, online RMA requests, and graphics-card support articles. These are starting points for a claim, not a promise that a specific card or claim will qualify. Use the card’s exact model and serial number, and confirm support terms for the purchase and service regions. MSI global graphics-card support · MSI USA graphics-card support

MSI issued a statement on October 15, 2025 about China, saying it did not officially sell or distribute RTX 5090 cards there and that non-authorized parallel-import units were not covered by MSI warranty, repair, or technical support in China. That policy is specific to China. The Reddit poster’s claim that a card came from Taiwan does not establish that the customer sought service in China or that the same terms apply elsewhere.
