Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallFor better performance in Red Dead Redemption 2 on PC, start with the in-game quality slider, run the Graphics Benchmark, and then test Rockstar’s highest-impact settings first: MSAA, Reflection Quality, Water Quality, Volumetric Quality, and Near Volumetric Resolution. There is no single best preset for every PC, so keep benchmark conditions consistent and judge each change by frame rate, image quality, and stability. For readability, check the current menus for subtitle and interface options; available sources confirm language support, but do not establish specific text-size, HUD-scale, background, or contrast controls.
How to tune performance without guessing
Use the same display resolution and benchmark conditions as you make adjustments. This gives you a useful comparison between the quality slider and targeted manual changes, rather than relying on a preset that may behave differently on your hardware.

- Start with the quality slider. Rockstar says the in-game slider analyzes PC capabilities and adjusts background graphics parameters based on resolution and the player’s preference for performance or quality. Try it as a baseline.
- Record a benchmark baseline. Open Settings > Graphics > Run Benchmark Test. Note the frame rate and whether the image looks acceptable at your display resolution.
- Change one setting at a time. Begin with Rockstar’s first group of settings to test, run the benchmark again, and compare the result with your baseline. Keep a simple note of each change so you can revert any that make the image or performance worse.
- Continue with lower-priority settings only as needed. If the first adjustments do not give you the balance you want, test items from Rockstar’s next group, again changing one at a time and benchmarking.
Rockstar cautions that the performance impact of a setting depends on the system configuration. Its recommended tuning process is to experiment with the slider and advanced settings and use the benchmark to confirm the balance of frame rate and visual quality. See Rockstar’s PC graphics performance tuning guidance.
Which graphics settings should you test first?
Start with Rockstar’s first group
Rockstar identifies these as its first settings to test when tuning performance:
#1 Best Overall
- 【INTEGRATED SPEAKERS】Whether you're at work or in the midst of an intense gaming session, our built-in speakers provide rich and seamless audio, all while keeping your desk clutter-free.
- 【EASY ON THE EYES】 Protect your eyes and enhance your comfort with Blue-Light Shift technology. This feature reduces harmful blue light emissions from your screen, helping to alleviate eye strain during long hours of use and promoting healthier viewing habits.
- 【WIDEN YOUR PERSPECTIVE】Our sleek minimal bezel design ensures undivided attention. The nearly bezel-free display seamlessly connects in a dual monitor arrangement, delivering an unobstructed view that lets you focus on more at once, completely distraction-free.
- Multisampling Anti-Aliasing (MSAA)
- Reflection Quality
- Water Quality
- Volumetric Quality
- Near Volumetric Resolution
Test them individually. The benchmark can help show whether a change improves frame rate on your PC, while your own visual check shows whether the trade-off is acceptable at your resolution. Do not assume that changing every item in the list will help every system.
Then try the remaining settings
If you still need a different balance, Rockstar’s next group includes:
Rank #2
- QHD Resolution (2560 x 1440) has 1.7 times the pixel density of Full HD for incredibly detailed pinsharp images
- HDR10 provides brighter highlights and nuanced shadow for added depth - making every scene feel more vivid and realistic
- The 180Hz refresh rate minimizes lag for gameplay with ultra-smooth action. Plus, the 1ms response time helps capture your moves in real-time, allowing you to react fast for gaming precision
- AMD FreeSync reduces choppiness, screen lag and image tearing, ensuring that your fast-paced, complex in-game action is stable with minimal stutter
- Ergonomic stand allows for tilt, pivot and height adjustments to maximize gaming comfort
- Temporal Anti-Aliasing
- Texture Quality
- Lighting Quality
- Shadow Quality
- Screen Space Ambient Occlusion
- Anisotropic Filtering
- Far Shadow Quality
- Tessellation Quality
- FXAA
- Volumetric Lighting Quality
- Triple Buffering
- Global Illumination Quality
- Particle Quality
- Mirror Quality
- Far Volumetric Resolution
Retest after each adjustment instead of applying a batch of changes: otherwise, you will not know which setting caused a performance or image-quality difference.

When to try DLSS
On a supported GeForce system, NVIDIA says DLSS can be enabled under Settings > Graphics. NVIDIA’s 2021 announcement claimed performance acceleration of up to 45% at 4K. That is a vendor claim, not a guaranteed result; the outcome depends on configuration. Compare DLSS with native rendering on your own system and check both frame rate and image quality. Details are in NVIDIA’s DLSS announcement for the game.
Rank #3
- Smooth motion: 240Hz refresh rate and fast 0.5ms response time provide crisp visuals and fluid movement with less input lag.
- Seamless gaming: FreeSync Premium and HDMI VRR eliminate tearing for smooth, responsive PC and console gameplay.
- Fast IPS: Faster 0.5ms response with excellent color accuracy across wide IPS viewing angles.
- Rich color: 99% sRGB color coverage delivers vivid, detailed imagery with strong accuracy.
- Eye comfort: TÜV Rheinland 3‑star certified display lowers blue light while preserving color quality.
How to troubleshoot the cited video-memory error
If the game crashes with ERR_GFX_D3D_DEFERRED_MEM, Rockstar’s support guidance is specifically for that memory-related error. It advises checking that the PC meets minimum requirements, updating graphics drivers, lowering graphics settings, and starting with the Video Memory meter at about two-thirds (66%) of total available video memory. Treat that percentage as a starting point for this troubleshooting case, not a universal setting target for all players. See Rockstar’s error-specific support steps.
What PC hardware does Rockstar list?
Rockstar’s store lists these PC requirements. They provide a reference for checking compatibility, not a promise that any particular graphics setting or frame rate will work on a given configuration.

Making subtitles and interface text easier to read
Steam’s listing indicates interface and subtitle language support, but does not establish exact subtitle-size, HUD-scale, background, or contrast controls. Check the current in-game menus for the options actually available in your edition rather than relying on an unverified menu path or assuming a particular setting will improve readability. The Steam listing for Red Dead Redemption 2 provides the language-support context.

Resolution, HDR, and display support
Rockstar says the PC edition supports HDR, 4K and higher resolutions, multi-monitor and widescreen configurations, and faster frame rates. These are supported capabilities, not a guarantee that a particular PC can run every configuration smoothly. Use the benchmark at the resolution and display setup you actually plan to play with, then tune settings against that result. See Rockstar’s PC-edition announcement.
