How does the Razer Nari Ultimate mic sound?
SoundGuys reports that speech is intelligible for most voices, while bass is notably de-emphasized. It summarizes the result this way: “The Nari Ultimate’s microphone seriously de-emphasizes bass tones, but it should work fine for most voices.” That bass-light character may make deeper voices sound especially thin or distorted. SoundGuys’ review supports the distinction between understandable chat and fuller-sounding voice reproduction; it does not establish that every owner will hear the same result.

RTINGS’ review, updated April 28, 2021, found that the boom mic does an okay job recording voice and separating it from moderate noise, but described the voice as thin and lacking brilliance. Razer’s 2019 Nari Ultimate Master Guide lists a unidirectional microphone, a frequency response of 100 Hz–6.5 kHz, a signal-to-noise ratio greater than 50 dB, and sensitivity of -42 ± 3 dB at 1 kHz. Is it suitable for your use?
- Everyday gaming chat: A reasonable fit if being understood matters more than a rich, broadcast-like tone.
- Deeper voices: The reported bass reduction may make the mic sound particularly thin.
- Voice recording or streaming: If natural, full-bodied voice quality is your priority, the review findings suggest looking beyond this headset mic; a dedicated microphone is a category-level alternative, not a specific model recommendation.
- Noisy surroundings: RTINGS found some ability to separate speech from moderate noise, but that should not be read as evidence that it removes all background sound.
What to check if the mic is quiet or not working
If the microphone is unexpectedly quiet or inactive, Razer’s troubleshooting guidance recommends checking the headset’s settings and the selected Windows input before assuming the mic itself is faulty. These steps address configuration issues; they cannot guarantee a fix for every hardware or software problem.
- In Razer Synapse, confirm the microphone is enabled and raise its volume.
- In Windows recording-device settings, select “Razer Nari – Chat” as the recording device.
- Check the game/chat balance and test whether changing it restores the expected microphone level.

Bottom line for buyers
The Nari Ultimate mic can serve for intelligible voice chat, but its reported thin, bass-light character is a real limitation if you want a fuller or more polished voice. Judge it on speech clarity, voice fullness, and background-noise handling rather than assuming that the headset’s other features indicate microphone quality. If you are considering the headset specifically for its mic, keep those limits in view and verify the listing’s availability and condition before buying.
