The main difference is the connection: the Razer Kraken X uses a 3.5 mm analog audio-and-microphone connection, while the Kraken X USB connects over USB Digital. Razer’s published specifications also list the USB model as heavier, with a longer cable, and its FAQ says it adds green earcup lighting. Choose based first on the ports available on your device, then consider cable reach, listed weight, and lighting.

Which connection fits your device?
Kraken X: 3.5 mm analog
The Kraken X has a 3.5 mm audio-and-microphone plug. Before buying, check whether your computer, console, or other intended device has a compatible headset jack. If it has separate headphone and microphone connections, account for the splitter arrangement Razer shows in its device layout; if it has a single combined headset jack, confirm that jack supports both audio and microphone.

The Kraken X USB uses USB Digital instead of a 3.5 mm headset connection. It is the fit to consider when the intended device has a suitable USB port and you want to connect the headset that way. The similar product names do not mean the models share a connector: check the model identifier and listing carefully, especially when purchasing the USB version (RZ04-02960).

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Weight, cable reach, lighting, and cushions
Razer lists the Kraken X at approximately 250 g with a 1.3 m cable, and the Kraken X USB at approximately 275 g with a 2.0 m cable. On those manufacturer-published figures, the USB model is 25 g heavier and its cable is 0.7 m longer. The longer cable may offer more placement flexibility, while the lighter listed weight may matter if minimizing headset weight is your priority; these figures do not establish how either headset feels in use.
Razer’s FAQ says the USB version has green lighting from each earcup. For cushions, Razer describes the USB model as having faux leather memory foam cushions and says it does not have cooling gel-infused cushions. The Kraken X support page lists leatherette oval cushions. Those descriptions are not identical enough to support a claim that every cushion material or construction detail is the same.

Drivers and advertised surround sound
Both models are listed with 40 mm drivers using neodymium magnets, but Razer publishes different headphone frequency-response ranges: 12 Hz–28 kHz for the Kraken X and 20 Hz–20 kHz for the Kraken X USB. These are specification-sheet figures, not a comparative listening test, and they do not by themselves establish which headset sounds better.

Razer’s materials restrict the advertised 7.1 surround feature to Windows 10 64-bit for both models. For the USB model, its support specifications label surround sound Dolby Headphone. Do not assume that the advertised surround software works the same way on other operating systems or platforms; check the relevant product and platform requirements before treating it as a deciding feature.

Which one should you choose?
- Choose the Kraken X if your device supports its 3.5 mm audio-and-microphone connection or the relevant splitter setup, and its lower listed weight is more important to you than a longer cable or earcup lighting.
- Choose the Kraken X USB if your device has a suitable USB port and you prefer USB Digital, the longer listed cable, or the green earcup lighting.
- Check the port and software requirements first if you are buying for a specific console or computer, or if advertised 7.1 surround is a major reason for the purchase.
