The Razer Basilisk V4 Pro is a strong choice for players who want a right-handed ergonomic shape, a thumb rest, lots of controls and a configurable scroll wheel. Its default AI shortcut is optional and can be remapped; it is not required for ordinary mouse use or gaming. Whether it is “the best” depends on your hand, games and budget—not just its specification sheet.
What makes the Basilisk V4 Pro stand out?
Razer describes the Basilisk V4 Pro as a right-handed ergonomic wireless gaming mouse with a signature thumb rest. Its feature set is aimed at people who want a versatile, customizable mouse rather than a stripped-down competitive-FPS design.

- Sensor and polling: Razer lists a Focus Pro Gen-3 50K optical sensor and polling rates up to 8,000 Hz. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent proof that it outperforms every rival. Razer’s product page
- Controls: It has 14 customizable controls, including the side controls and scroll-wheel inputs.
- Connections: It supports HyperSpeed Wireless Gen-2, Bluetooth 6.2 and wired use. Razer says it can pair with up to three Bluetooth devices and supports up to five devices across connection types.
- Scroll wheel: The configurable wheel is a notable part of the mouse’s appeal for people who value different scrolling and control options.
That combination favors games and workflows where extra inputs and a comfortable, supported hand position are useful. It does not establish that the shape will suit every hand size or grip; the available launch review did not test fit across a range of users.
What does the AI button do—and can you change it?
One of the three side controls is assigned by default to Razer’s AI Prompt Master feature. Windows Central describes it as a Razer-built interface that uses ChatGPT for tasks such as composing, summarizing, rewriting and creating images. The feature requires Razer Synapse. - The durable, compact design with built-in nano receiver storage makes G305 not just a great portable desktop mouse, but also a great laptop travel companion, use with a gaming laptop and play anywhere
The default assignment is a software shortcut, not an AI requirement for the mouse itself. The reviewer says the control can be remapped, so you can assign it another function if you do not want to use Prompt Master. Razer’s product page lists the default button mapping. Razer’s product page
Why one reviewer called it the best—and why that is not a universal verdict
In an October 8, 2026 launch-day review, Windows Central’s Richard Devine wrote: “The Razer Basilisk V4 Pro is probably the best gaming mouse I’ve ever used overall, packed with features, performance, and customization. But why did they have to include AI with it at all?” Windows Central

- ICONIC ERGONOMIC FORM WITH 9 CUSTOMIZABLE CONTROLS — Favored by millions worldwide, the mouse’s signature shape perfectly supports different grips, while its numerous easy-access buttons allow for an endless combination of commands and macros
- RAZER HYPERSPEED WIRELESS AND BLUETOOTH — Unleash seamless, low-latency performance that's faster than other wireless tech or switch to Bluetooth for longer hours of gaming. Outfitted with multi-device support for a streamlined setup

- RAZER 5G ADVANCED 18K OPTICAL SENSOR — Tailor the mouse to the playstyle with a new, robust set of sensitivity settings. Enjoy responsive, pixel-precise aim with an ultra-reliable sensor that tracks movement with zero spinouts
- RAZER MECHANICAL MOUSE SWITCHES GEN-2 — With new gold-plated contact points, the switches are less prone to degrading and have a longer lifespan of up to 60-million clicks, so gamers can enjoy crisp execution that’s just as consistent
That is a clear personal endorsement, not a category-wide consensus. The review praised the ergonomic design, customization, sensor performance, improved battery life and scroll wheel, while objecting to the price, default AI assignment and Razer-specific wireless-charging ecosystem. Razer supplied the review unit; the reviewer disclosed that Razer did not review or influence the article before publication.

The Basilisk V4 Pro is best understood as a feature-rich, ergonomic all-rounder for someone who wants its shape and controls. A lightweight symmetrical mouse may be a better match for a player prioritizing fast, unrestricted movement in competitive FPS games. Hand fit, weight, button layout, scroll-wheel preferences and charging needs matter more than a headline polling or sensor figure alone.
Battery life, charging and the real cost
Razer claims up to 200 hours of battery life over HyperSpeed Wireless Gen-2. In an October 8, 2026 product-line article, it also claimed up to 275 hours over Bluetooth 6.2. Both figures are manufacturer estimates that depend on usage and settings, not independent comparative test results. Razer’s product page Razer’s October 8, 2026 product-line article

If your current mouse already fits well and meets your needs, compare the specific changes that matter to you—controls, connection options, scroll-wheel behavior, battery claims and charging setup—against the cost of replacing it. The available launch review is not a long-term durability study, and the published specifications alone do not demonstrate a meaningful improvement in every game or for every user.
Quick Recap
Who should buy it?
- Consider it if you prefer a right-handed ergonomic shape with a thumb rest, want numerous remappable controls, and value wireless, Bluetooth and wired options in one mouse.
- Compare alternatives first if competitive FPS movement, a different shape or a lower price is your priority. RTINGS’ G502 X PLUS and G502 X LIGHTSPEED recommendations offer multi-genre comparison points, not a universal ranking.
- Check the full setup cost if you want wireless charging: Razer’s named charging accessories are separate purchases, and their current prices and availability should be verified.
- Ignore the AI shortcut if you want: Prompt Master is optional, and the default side-button mapping can be changed.
