The six difficulties are Easy, Normal, Hard, Brutal, Nightmare and Ultra-Nightmare. Clan defeats unlock the ladder; your own damage determines your chest tier.
What the Clan Boss is—and how difficulty unlocks work
“Clan Boss” can refer to more than one mode in RAID: Shadow Legends. This guide covers the Demon Lord, not Hydra or Chimera. The Demon Lord has six difficulties, from Easy through Ultra-Nightmare. According to Plarium’s game overview, a clan must defeat its current difficulty to unlock the next. Once unlocked, a difficulty stays available to that clan; it does not need to defeat every lower level again each day.

How keys, damage, chests and the daily reset work
Plarium says each player receives one Demon Lord Key every six hours. Your personal damage determines the chest tier you qualify for. If the clan defeats the boss, contributing players receive two chests at the tier they earned; if the boss survives, they receive one. In other words, a clan kill matters, but it does not replace the personal damage needed to reach a chest tier.

The Demon Lord fully heals during its daily reset window, which Plarium lists as 10:00–11:00 UTC. That creates a fresh cycle of attacks and rewards, including after a defeat. For exact mechanics and current in-game details, see Plarium’s official Demon Lord guide.
Build a team that lasts before chasing higher damage
A team that survives more turns has more opportunities to apply debuffs and deal damage. As you improve, prioritize durable champions and a reliable team plan over copying a damage screenshot or chasing a single champion pull. The right choices depend on your roster, equipment and the difficulty you are facing.

Protect the team
Improve survivability so your champions remain active long enough to contribute. Use defensive support and protection that your roster can sustain, and review equipment when the team is falling before it can deliver its intended damage. A strong damage dealer cannot help once defeated.

Keep important debuffs available
Decrease Attack can reduce pressure on the team. Decrease Defense and Weaken can help your damage dealers contribute more. These effects are useful only when they land reliably and remain available at the turns your strategy needs; accuracy, skill cooldowns and turn order all matter.

Add sustained damage
Poison is one sustained-damage option highlighted by progression guides. Consider it alongside direct damage and your team’s ability to stay alive. Examples of champions in third-party guides are roster-dependent suggestions, not required pulls or guarantees of success.
When to move up a difficulty
Higher difficulties offer better chest value, according to Plarium, but a move is useful only if your damage still reaches a worthwhile chest tier. Compare what you personally earn at the current level with what you can realistically earn at the next one. Avoid relying on a single universal damage threshold: chest requirements vary by difficulty, and estimates from third-party guides should be checked against current in-game information.

- Stay at a difficulty if moving up would leave your damage too low for a useful personal reward.
- Try the next unlocked difficulty when your team can survive and your expected chest tier makes the key worthwhile.
- Coordinate with your clan, since its ability to defeat a difficulty affects whether contributors receive the additional chest.
Account for affinity changes during the cycle
The Demon Lord starts with Void affinity. After its HP falls below 50%, its affinity changes to a random affinity in the next battle. Plarium notes that teams with multiple Void champions or balanced affinities have an advantage. If a team’s results shift after the boss crosses that threshold, check the current affinity before assuming your gear or build has stopped working.
Speed tuning and advanced team strategies
As your team develops, speed tuning can help put protection, debuffs and damage in the intended order. It is not a universal speed target: the correct sequence depends on the composition, skills and difficulty. Unkillable and Block Damage strategies are advanced approaches, not requirements for every account or a promise of a particular number of keys.
RaidGrimoire’s example compositions caution that exact speeds vary with skill books and turn-meter abilities. Before changing gear or relying on a preset, validate the specific composition and its required turn order for your champions. A team that differs in cooldowns or turn-meter effects may not follow the same tune.
What Ultra-Nightmare progression really requires
Ultra-Nightmare is a roster-and-gear milestone, not a universal checklist. Reaching it means your clan has unlocked the difficulty; earning the chest tier you want still depends on your own damage. Plan for stronger demands on survival, debuff reliability and turn order, then adjust the team to the champions and equipment you actually have. An Unkillable composition can be one route, but it is not the only route and does not guarantee a one-key result.
