A champion can be excellent against bosses and a poor Arena choice, or valuable early in an account and outclassed for a later task. Use the mode-by-mode guide below to judge what a champion contributes, rather than treating rarity as a universal power ranking.
How to read this RAID champion tier list
This is a practical evaluation framework, not a complete S-to-D ranking of every champion. RAID’s official site describes a roster of more than 700 champions across 15 factions, with champions acquired through shards, fusions, and fragment summons. The official sources cited here do not provide a comprehensive, current champion-by-champion order for all modes, nor do they publish comparable win rates or damage rankings. A definitive universal tier list would therefore imply more certainty than the evidence supports.

Instead, compare champions within the job and mode you need. Evaluate the role they fill, their damage or utility, how reliably their skills work, their affinity matchup, how much the team depends on them, and the books and gear needed to make them effective. These are useful comparison criteria based on the game’s mechanics and champion examples, not an official RAID scoring formula.
Rarity is not a universal tier
RAID’s official Champions page cautions: “While Legendaries aren’t always superior to less-rare Champions, the sight of a gold frame means you’ve acquired one of the most prized Champions in the entire game.” That distinction matters: rarity describes a champion’s acquisition category, not whether it is the best answer to a particular fight. A lower-rarity champion who supplies the survival, control, or boss damage your team lacks may be more useful to your account than a Legendary with the wrong kit for the job.

Account value depends on the need
Ask what is holding back your team before investing: surviving a wave, landing a debuff, controlling enemy turns, clearing a boss, or winning a PvP matchup. A champion’s value also changes with progression. Early on, a flexible champion who helps across several activities may be more useful than a specialist; later, a specialist can earn a place for one difficult encounter.
Mode-by-mode champion evaluations
RAID’s activities have different objectives, so the same champion should not receive the same grade in each one. The official champion guides offer useful examples, but they are publisher-authored guidance, not independent comparative testing. They do not establish a full ranking of the mode’s roster.
| Mode or task | What to compare | Official-guide example |
|---|---|---|
| Arena and other PvP | Assess the champion’s contribution to your matchup and team plan, such as damage, control, or survival. Do not assume that PvE usefulness transfers to Arena. | The Lightsworn guide says he is useful in PvE but not viable in Arena. The Royal Guard guide notes PvP limitations. Neither establishes a ranking for all PvP champions. |
| Campaign and wave clearing | Compare the ability to deal with groups of enemies, including area damage and control, alongside the team’s ability to survive each wave. | The Big ‘Un guide highlights damage and crowd-control value, including area attacks, in content such as waves and Faction Wars. The Royal Guard guide notes limitations in wave-based content. |
| Dungeons and bosses | Check whether the champion supplies the boss-specific damage, debuffs, protection, or other utility your team needs, and whether that contribution works with your lineup. | The Lightsworn guide highlights PvE and Fire Knight usefulness. The Royal Guard guide emphasizes Enemy MAX HP damage and boss utility, including Fire Knight. |
| Doom Tower and Faction Wars | Judge the champion against the encounter and your faction roster rather than assigning a universal grade. Team fit and the specific stage matter. | The Big ‘Un guide discusses content including Faction Wars and waves; it does not establish an overall tier placement. |
Check affinity and debuff reliability
Affinity is a matchup consideration, not a standalone measure of strength. The official game overview describes Magic as strong against Spirit, Spirit against Force, and Force against Magic; Void has no affinity advantage or disadvantage. A champion who looks effective in one matchup may be a less dependable choice into an opposing affinity.

For champions whose contribution depends on debuffs, account for the target as well as the attacker. RAID’s official overview says whether a debuff lands depends in part on the attacker’s Accuracy and the target’s Resistance. A skill’s value on paper does not guarantee that its debuff will stick in a particular fight.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Decide whether a champion is worth investing in
- Name the task. Choose a specific mode, boss, wave, or matchup you want to improve rather than asking whether a champion is simply “good.”
- Identify the missing role. Decide whether your team needs damage, control, survival, support, or boss utility. Compare candidates who can fill that same need.
- Check the conditions. Consider affinity, Accuracy versus Resistance for debuffs, and whether the champion needs teammates or particular gear to deliver the expected benefit.
- Weigh the investment. Account for books, gear, and the opportunity cost of building this champion instead of another candidate. The official materials cited here do not quantify those costs or provide a universal return-on-investment ranking.
- Recheck current skills and content. Champion details and balance can change. Confirm the live in-game skill descriptions and current patch context before treating any ranking as current.
Shard odds are not a performance tier list
The official Champions page reports these shard outcome probabilities: Ancient and Void Shards each have a 91.5% Rare, 8.0% Epic, and 0.5% Legendary outcome; Sacred Shards have a 94% Epic and 6% Legendary outcome. These are acquisition odds, not combat results, win rates, or evidence that one champion will perform better in a given mode. RAID says players can inspect probabilities on the in-game Summon screen. The page also describes a Mercy System that increases chances after repeated unsuccessful pulls; check the current in-game information for the applicable details.
What this list can and cannot tell you
The examples establish why champion value needs to be judged by mode: Lightsworn is presented as useful for PvE defense but not viable in Arena, while Royal Guard is presented as a boss-utility champion with PvP and wave-content limitations. Big ‘Un is highlighted for damage and crowd control in certain content. Those descriptions help frame comparisons, but they do not prove that any example outranks every alternative or belongs in a fixed overall tier.
For a current, comprehensive tier order, comparable evaluations across the full roster and each mode would be needed. The official sources cited here do not establish that order or supply performance statistics such as win rate, pick rate, or side-by-side damage. Treat any exact overall placement as a separate claim that needs current, mode-specific evidence.
