There is no official minimum CPU or RAM specification for a RAGE:MP server. The RAGE:MP wiki documents Windows and Linux setup, ports, firewall rules and default settings, but it does not publish a processor model, core count, memory target or player-capacity benchmark. More importantly, the team announced that community-server operations were expected to end by August 31, 2026—a date that has passed—so verify what remains online before buying hardware or paying for hosting.
The practical answer before you spend money
If you are searching for a number such as “8 GB RAM” or “four CPU cores,” the official documentation does not provide one. Any precise hardware figure presented as an official RAGE:MP requirement is unsupported by the setup and settings pages. The wiki’s maxplayers value of 100 is a configuration default, not proof that a particular machine can run 100 players.

- CPU: no official minimum, recommended model, core count or clock speed is stated.
- RAM: no official minimum, recommendation or player-to-memory formula is stated.
- Operating systems: the setup guide covers Windows and Linux; its Linux notes name Debian 10 or later, Ubuntu 18.10 or later and glibc 2.28, but those pages may predate the platform wind-down.
- Networking: the documented defaults are port 22005 for server access and port 22006 for HTTP-hosted client packages, with forwarding and firewall rules required.
- Current viability: the team told operators to migrate to FiveM and announced an end-of-community-server timeline. Check the current status before committing to a new machine or recurring hosting bill.
RAGE:MP’s announced shutdown changes the buying decision
On May 25, 2026, administrator ragempdev announced that public toolkit access had been discontinued, no new community servers would be accepted, and the public server listing was scheduled to close by June 1, 2026. The announcement said: “All remaining community servers are expected to cease operations by August 31, 2026.” Read the official announcement for the complete notice.

August 31, 2026 is now in the past. That does not by itself prove that every private or legacy instance has stopped, and the available notice should not be turned into an unverified claim about the exact present-day state. Treat RAGE:MP as a platform whose publicly announced support timeline has elapsed:

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Confirm that the specific server or service you care about is still reachable.
- Ask a hosting provider, if applicable, whether it still permits RAGE:MP workloads and for how long.
- Do not buy a server computer solely for a new RAGE:MP project without first establishing that a usable server ecosystem remains.
- If you intend to continue a role-play or multiplayer project, evaluate a FiveM-compatible migration path, as the announcement directs operators to do.
These availability questions come before RAM, CPU or monthly price. A perfectly sized machine is of little use if the platform, toolkit or public-server infrastructure is no longer available.
What the official documentation actually specifies
The authoritative starting point is the RAGE:MP Wiki’s Getting Started with Server page and its Server settings reference. They describe installation and configuration, not a hardware certification program.
CPU and RAM are not published requirements
Neither page gives a processor family, minimum cores, clock speed, minimum memory, recommended memory or formula tying system resources to player count. The settings reference does mention a client-package RAM cache option, but it does not convert that cache into a total system-memory requirement. Therefore, statements such as “RAGE:MP needs 4 GB” or “16 GB supports 100 players” should be treated as somebody’s workload-specific estimate, not an official requirement.

Operating-system notes are setup guidance, not a current support guarantee
The setup guide includes both Windows and Linux procedures. For Linux newcomers it recommends Debian or Ubuntu and lists Debian 10 or later, Ubuntu 18.10 or later, and glibc 2.28 support. Those labels describe what the wiki page printed; they do not establish that new deployments are still supported after the announced 2026 timeline. Use them only when examining a legacy instance or confirming compatibility with an existing installation.
Ports, protocols and firewall rules
The setup guide documents default port 22005 UDP for server access and the next port, 22006, for HTTP-hosted client packages. It also tells operators to forward the ports on the router and open them in the host firewall. The settings page adds an important qualification: the configured server port uses both TCP and UDP, while the next port serves HTTP client packages.
Because the port can be changed in conf.json, do not copy the defaults blindly. Read the configured value and then apply rules that match the documentation:

- Find the server port in
conf.json. - Allow that configured server port for the TCP and UDP traffic required by the settings page.
- Allow the next port for HTTP client-package delivery.
- Forward the same ports from the public router address to the server’s private address if the machine sits behind NAT.
- Test from outside the local network; a connection that works only on the host or home LAN does not prove that Internet players can join.
Use the actual configuration as the source of truth. A changed port, a cloud security group, a router rule and the operating-system firewall all have to agree.

Defaults are not performance measurements
| Setting | Documented default | What it means |
|---|---|---|
maxplayers |
100 | The configured maximum shown by the settings reference; it is not a validated capacity for any CPU or RAM combination. |
sync-rate |
40 milliseconds | A synchronization interval default; it is not a benchmark or a promise of a particular tick-rate under load. |
| Server access port | 22005 in the setup example | A documented default only. Confirm the value in your own conf.json. |
| HTTP client-package port | 22006 in the setup example | The next port after the server port in the documented default arrangement; confirm it if the server port changes. |
How to size a machine without inventing a specification
Since no official sizing table exists, hardware selection has to be empirical and tied to the workload you actually intend to run. The meaningful variables include concurrent players, script and resource complexity, how often entities are synchronized, database activity, logging, map or asset delivery and whether other services share the machine.
Measure an existing workload
- Install the server only if you have confirmed that the instance is still permitted and operational.
- Run the exact scripts, resources and configuration planned for production rather than an empty default installation.
- Exercise the busiest realistic player and gameplay scenarios available to you.
- Record per-core CPU utilization, total memory and swap use, disk activity, network throughput and server responsiveness during those scenarios.
- Repeat the observation after adding every major resource. A quiet idle measurement cannot establish a safe player capacity.
- Leave operational headroom for the operating system, monitoring, updates and short-lived spikes instead of treating the highest observed value as a target.
This process produces a workload-specific estimate. It still is not an official RAGE:MP requirement and should not be advertised as one. If you have no representative workload, the honest conclusion is that the required CPU and RAM are unknown.

Can you host a RAGE:MP server on your own PC?
Historically, yes: the official setup material supports installing on a Windows or Linux machine that you administer. Whether it is sensible now depends less on the desktop’s headline specifications than on availability, networking and the platform’s current status.
Self-hosting checklist
- Reachability: your Internet connection must permit inbound traffic and your router must support forwarding. Carrier-grade NAT or blocked inbound traffic can prevent public access.
- Address stability: players need a dependable public endpoint. A changing residential address requires an address-management solution and can still be unsuitable for a public service.
- Firewall control: you must be able to create the TCP/UDP and HTTP rules required by your chosen configuration.
- Uptime and power: a personal PC that sleeps, reboots for updates or shares bandwidth with household use will produce interruptions.
- Security: expose only the required ports, keep the operating system maintained and avoid running the service with unnecessary privileges.
For Linux, the wiki includes a systemd example and specifically advises changing the sample service user rather than leaving it as root. Follow that principle on any legacy deployment: create a dedicated, least-privileged account and adapt the service definition to your own paths and user.

Self-hosting versus renting: the historical choice
The official sources do not provide provider prices, latency tests or performance comparisons. The choice can therefore be framed only by the responsibilities each model places on you, not by a claim that one package is universally faster or cheaper.
Best Value

| Decision factor | Self-hosted Windows/Linux machine | Rented server |
|---|---|---|
| Administrative control | Full control of the operating system, files, firewall and upgrades. | Depends on the access level and policies offered by the provider. |
| Network setup | You manage the router, public address, forwarding and host firewall. | The provider usually supplies an Internet-facing address, but you still configure the guest firewall and game ports. |
| Operating-system expertise | You are responsible for installation, patching, backups and recovery. | Infrastructure may be simpler to obtain, but administration of the server software remains your responsibility unless managed service is included. |
| Cost pattern | Uses equipment, electricity and an existing connection; no universal cost comparison is provided. | Recurring rental cost; plans and prices vary, and no current provider ranking is established here. |
| Availability risk in 2026 | A new purchase is difficult to justify until you verify that a RAGE:MP service can still operate. | Confirm that the host still accepts the software and will honor the expected service period before paying. |
Common setup failures and what to check
Players cannot connect from the Internet
Recheck the port in conf.json, the protocol rules, router forwarding and the operating-system firewall. The documented defaults are not universal if you changed the server port. Also verify that the machine has a publicly reachable address rather than an upstream NAT that you cannot control.
The server works locally but client packages do not download
Confirm that the next port is serving HTTP client packages, that it is forwarded and allowed through the firewall, and that the client is using the same public address. A game-access rule alone does not cover the package-delivery port.
Performance degrades as activity rises
Do not infer a hardware requirement from the 100-player default. Capture CPU per core, memory pressure, disk and network behavior with your real scripts and resources. Identify the resource that saturates first, then reduce workload or move to a machine with more capacity; there is no official player-to-RAM conversion to apply.

A newly purchased server has no practical use
Revisit the May 25, 2026 announcement and verify the current ecosystem before expanding the project. The announced cease date has passed, and the team directed operators toward FiveM migration. A migration assessment is more appropriate than assuming that additional RAGE:MP hardware will solve an availability problem.
What to do if you are starting a project now
- Verify availability: check whether the intended RAGE:MP server, toolkit access and community services still function.
- Identify the migration requirement: if the project must continue, evaluate a FiveM-compatible implementation as directed by the team’s announcement.
- Only then choose infrastructure: decide between a machine you control and a rental based on firewall access, administration skills, uptime needs and budget.
- Benchmark your actual workload: use the scripts and resources you will run, measure bottlenecks and document the result.
- Validate networking externally: test the configured server port and the next HTTP package port from outside the host’s local network.
The central distinction is simple: RAGE:MP’s settings tell you what the server is configured to attempt, while a workload test tells you what a particular machine can sustain. The official documentation supplies the former, not the latter.
