Update Adrenalin for a documented driver, game, application, compatibility, feature, stability, or driver-security issue. Update a card’s vBIOS only when its manufacturer provides firmware for that exact card model. They update different parts of the graphics system, so one should not be treated as a replacement for the other.
What is the difference between a vBIOS update and an Adrenalin update?
An AMD Adrenalin update installs graphics-driver software and related components. Its release notes specify supported products, fixes, known issues, and sometimes workarounds or installation guidance.

A vBIOS update changes firmware associated with a particular graphics card. Firmware is supplied by the card manufacturer and must match the specific board or model; the label “RX 7000” alone is not enough to establish compatibility.

Should you update the GPU BIOS or just the driver?
Start with the symptom. If a game, rendering program, or other application is crashing or behaving incorrectly, check AMD’s release notes for a matching issue and the recommended version or workaround. For example, AMD’s Adrenalin 26.6.1 notes describe an intermittent Blender crash on RX 7000-series and newer products and recommend installing 26.3.1 for that issue. That is a driver-level recommendation, not an instruction to flash card firmware.

If the card maker has announced a firmware update, identify the complete make and model of the card and check that exact product on the manufacturer’s official support page. Do not install firmware simply because the card uses an RX 7000-series GPU.
What does the reported Sapphire RX 7000 vBIOS update cover?
Sapphire’s official download page lists an RX 7900 XTX firmware updater and describes its purpose as a security improvement identified in partnership with AMD. A report dated October 2, 2026 names these eight Sapphire models as covered:

No such equivalence is established. AMD’s February 2026 security bulletin maps several listed vulnerabilities to driver versions for RX 7000 graphics, including Adrenalin 25.5.1 and 25.6.1 mitigation entries. Sapphire separately describes its firmware as a security improvement identified with AMD. The available information does not show that these announcements address the same vulnerability, so do not assume that installing one makes the other unnecessary.

How to choose the right update source
- For a driver issue: Read the relevant AMD Adrenalin release notes and check the supported products, fixed and known issues, and any stated workaround. AMD lists Auto-Detect and Install as its preferred driver download method.
- For firmware: Find the complete card make and model on the card itself or in the manufacturer’s support tool. Confirm that exact model is listed on its official firmware or support page, then follow the manufacturer’s current instructions.
- For laptops and all-in-one systems: Check the computer manufacturer’s driver guidance. AMD says OEM drivers may be customized and validated for system-specific features and compatibility.
- For a driver downgrade: AMD’s 26.6.2 release notes recommend AMD Cleanup Utility when downgrading to a previous version. Follow the instructions for the specific version you intend to install.
What the current AMD driver notes establish
AMD’s Adrenalin 26.6.2 notes list RX 7900, RX 7800, RX 7700, RX 7650, and RX 7600 desktop graphics among the compatible products. For that release, the listed operating-system requirements include Windows 10 64-bit version 21H2 or later and Windows 11 version 21H2 or later, with product-specific variation. These details apply to that version; consult AMD’s current notes before downloading because support and requirements can change.
