Tamil Nadu police invoked the Goondas Act against GEM Group chairman R Veeramani, according to reports published October 1–2, 2026. Hindustan Times reported on October 2 that the Special Investigation Team had lodged a fourth case against him over alleged sexual offences involving minor girls. These are reported police actions and allegations, not a finding of guilt.
What the Goondas Act order means
The statute is the Tamil Nadu Prevention of Dangerous Activities Act, commonly called the Goondas Act. The New Indian Express reported on October 1, 2026, that Greater Chennai Police Commissioner A Amalraj ordered the detention of Veeramani and associates M Shanthi and Mahendra Simhan after a police recommendation. The report said the action cited alleged involvement in offences said to affect public order. The New Indian Express report
Hindustan Times describes the Act as allowing detention without trial for up to 12 months and says a detention order can be challenged in the High Court. That is the account given by the newspaper; the reports cited here do not provide a direct statutory text or a full explanation of the legal process. Hindustan Times report
What “fourth case” refers to—and why counts differ
The phrase refers to Hindustan Times’ October 2 report that the SIT lodged a fourth case against Veeramani concerning alleged sexual assault of minor girls, attributing the information to police. The count is not consistent across the reports, so it should be read with its source and date rather than as a settled total.

What is—and is not—established
The reports describe allegations, police cases and a preventive detention order. They do not establish that Veeramani or either named associate committed an offence, and they do not report a conviction or final determination of guilt. The allegations involving minors should therefore remain attributed to police or the reporting rather than stated as proven fact.
