If Quick Share cannot find your Chromebook, will not connect, or never shows a receiving prompt, check that Quick Share is set up and on, then confirm the Chromebook’s visibility and prepare both devices to receive. Bluetooth, distance, a hidden receiver, and work or school restrictions are common things to check.
1. Confirm Quick Share is set up and turned on
On the Chromebook, open Settings → Connected devices → Quick Share. Complete setup if prompted, and make sure Quick Share is on. Google lists ChromeOS 91 or later and Android 6.0 or later as requirements for Chromebook Quick Share: Google’s Chromebook Quick Share requirements and setup.

If Quick Share is missing from Settings, first check the Chromebook’s ChromeOS version and whether it is managed by a school or employer. A missing option does not by itself identify the cause.

2. If the Chromebook is not showing up, check its visibility
Open Quick Share from Quick Settings or from Settings → Connected devices → Quick Share, then inspect Device visibility. The right choice depends on who is sending and which account is signed in. Google describes these options in its Chromebook Quick Share instructions.

- Your devices: Use this when both devices are nearby and signed in to the same Google account.
- Contacts: The Chromebook can be found by nearby contacts, but its screen must be on and unlocked.
- Hidden: The Chromebook is not generally discoverable. Make it visible when prompted by an incoming share.
- Available to everyone: Use this for a sender who is not covered by the other options. This setting makes the Chromebook visible temporarily, for up to 10 minutes.
After changing visibility, have the sender look for the Chromebook again. If the sender is signed into a different account, “Your devices” may not be the appropriate setting.
3. Prepare both devices to discover and receive
Turn on Bluetooth on both the Chromebook and the Android device, and bring them close together. Google’s Android troubleshooting guidance recommends keeping devices within 30 cm (1 foot). For an Android phone receiving a file, unlock its screen and put Quick Share in Receive mode. See Google’s Android Quick Share troubleshooting steps.

If the Chromebook is receiving but no prompt appears, check its visibility first and make sure the receiving Chromebook is awake and ready to accept the share. If the Chromebook is sending, check that the Android device is discoverable and ready to receive.

4. Separate a discovery problem from a transfer problem

- The sender cannot find the Chromebook: Check Quick Share setup, visibility, account match for “Your devices,” Bluetooth, and receiver readiness.
- The Chromebook appears, but connection or transfer fails: Keep the devices close, make sure Bluetooth remains on, and check whether another transfer is still in progress.
- A receiving prompt does not appear: Check the receiving device’s screen and visibility or Receive mode, depending on which device is receiving.
5. Reset Quick Share and restart if needed
- On the Chromebook, turn Quick Share off and then on again.
- Retry the transfer. If it still fails, restart the Chromebook and try again.
- If the problem appears to be on the Android phone, toggle airplane mode off and on, wait for any other transfer to finish, then restart the phone.
These are reset steps, not a diagnosis of a particular hardware or software fault. Google includes them in its Chromebook guidance and Android troubleshooting guidance.
6. Check whether a work or school policy blocks sharing
If the Chromebook belongs to an employer or school, an administrator may restrict Quick Share with phones. Google warns that users of work or school Chromebooks may not be able to use these features with a phone and advises contacting the administrator: Google Chromebook Help. There is no user-level workaround in that guidance; ask the organization’s administrator whether the feature is allowed.

A managed Wi-Fi network is a weaker clue, not a confirmed Chromebook fix. Google’s advice that some networks may block device-to-device sharing is written for Quick Share for Windows, not Chromebook. If a network restriction seems plausible, ask the network administrator rather than treating Windows-specific instructions as a Chromebook remedy: Google’s Quick Share for Windows network guidance.

7. What to record if it still fails
If the checks do not resolve the issue, note both device models, their software versions, the visibility settings, and whether the failure happens during discovery, connection, or transfer. That gives the Chromebook manufacturer or your organization’s administrator useful details without assuming a hardware replacement is needed.
