QuestLHSync Uses Steam Frame Cameras to Align Lighthouse Trackers Without SpaceCalibrator

QuestLHSync uses Steam Frame’s cameras to observe SteamVR 2.0 base-station flashes and align lighthouse devices without a headset-mounted tracker. Here are its requirements, setup and caveats.

QuestLHSync aligns SteamVR 2.0 lighthouse devices with a Steam Frame’s camera-based tracking by observing base-station flashes. Its project says this workflow needs no tracker mounted on the headset and replaces SpaceCalibrator for the alignment it performs. Steam Frame is listed as supported; Quest support has different setup requirements and testing status.

How QuestLHSync aligns the tracking systems

Steam Frame tracks itself and its controllers with outward-facing cameras. Valve lists four monochrome cameras for that tracking, alongside two interior eye-tracking cameras and infrared illuminators for dark environments (Valve’s Steam Frame specifications). QuestLHSync uses the headset camera system as its reference: it observes flashes from SteamVR 2.0 base stations, then aligns lighthouse devices such as trackers and controllers to the headset’s tracking space.

The project describes two software components. A headset-side component provides camera observations over the local network; on Steam Frame, that includes a user service and a small SteamVR driver. A PC-side SteamVR driver calculates and applies the alignment to lighthouse devices and adds a QuestLHSync page to the SteamVR dashboard. The project says a tracker does not need to be attached to the headset for this process (QuestLHSync README).

Requirements and compatibility

  • Base stations: SteamVR 2.0 base stations are required. Version 1.0 is explicitly unsupported.
  • PC: Windows with SteamVR.
  • Network: The PC and headset must be on the same local network.
  • Visible lighthouse device: At least one lighthouse device, such as a tracker or Index controller, must be switched on. The README says SteamVR only shows base stations while one is active.
  • Streaming: The headset must be streamed using a supported transport. Listed examples include Steam Link, Link, Air Link, Virtual Desktop, ALVR and CreoleCast.

Steam Frame

The project lists Steam Frame as supported and says installation does not require root access or a developer password. Its documented installation unpacks an archive, runs an install script, starts a user service and restarts headset-side SteamVR once so the small driver loads. These are the project’s instructions, not independently verified installation results.

HTC VIVE Tracker (3.0) – Full-Body Tracking for SteamVR, VRChat, Motion Capture
  • Full-Body Tracker: Track the physical presence of your entire body within the virtual environment. Capture full-body motions with as few as 3 trackers (Support for SteamVR BS1.0 and BS2.0).
  • VR Accessory Tracking: Enable the tracking of real-world objects and VR accessories to increase the realism of your simulation or training experience.
  • Light Weight: Lighter weight for easier handling, improved comfort, and more uses with your VR set. Your favorite VR tracker just got even more versatile (15% lighter than VIVE Tracker 2018).
  • Longer Lasting Battery: Work, train, and create for longer with up to 7.5 hours of battery life (Up to 75% longer than VIVE Tracker 2018).
  • Expand Your View: 240° field of view

Quest headsets

The README documents Quest Pro, Quest 3 and Quest 3S with Magisk root. It identifies Quest Pro as tested, while Quest 3 and Quest 3S have not been tried. Do not treat those models as equally validated merely because they are all listed.

Setup and first alignment

  1. Confirm the base stations are SteamVR 2.0 models, the PC runs Windows with SteamVR, and the headset and PC share a local network.
  2. Install the headset-side and PC-side components using the project’s instructions for the headset. For Steam Frame, the documented process is a user-level install; Quest setup requires the root configuration described in the README.
  3. Keep SteamVR closed while registering the PC driver, then start SteamVR and open the QuestLHSync page in the dashboard.
  4. For first use, look around so the headset cameras can see both base stations. The project says the software establishes and saves an alignment after identifying them. It recommends wearing a tracker or holding a controller while the stations are first identified.

Before using QuestLHSync, disable SpaceCalibrator, OpenVR-SpaceSync and other tools that modify lighthouse poses. The README warns that simultaneous corrections to the same devices conflict.

Camcamp 2K Dual Lens PTZ Security Camera Outdoor, WiFi Auto Tracking
  • DUAL-LENS 2K, SEE MORE WITH ONE CAMERA: Two lenses work as one — a fixed upper lens holds a steady wide overview while the lower PTZ lens covers the details, both shown side-by-side in crisp 2K live view. This outdoor security camera watches your front door and driveway at the same time, no blind spots, no second device.
  • 355° PAN-TILT WITH AUTO TRACKING: The lower PTZ lens pans a full 355° and tilts 90°, and auto-tracks moving objects — when motion is sensed it turns to follow the action across your yard so you never lose the subject, while the upper lens keeps a fixed view always on.
  • COLOR NIGHT VISION, 3 MODES: Built-in spotlights deliver full-color footage after dark; switch between Infrared (discreet black-and-white), Full Color (bright, vivid), and Smart Mode that lights up only when motion is sensed. This wifi security camera outdoor turns a dark driveway into a clear, identifiable scene all night.
  • MOTION DETECTION, INSTANT ALERTS: The moment movement is sensed at your door, you get an instant push to your phone with a snapshot — so you know something's happening before you even open the app. Combined with auto-tracking, the camera turns to capture the motion as it moves.
  • 2-WAY AUDIO, TALK FROM ANYWHERE: A built-in mic and speaker let you hear and speak through the app — tell a delivery driver where to leave a package or warn off a stranger in real time, whether you're at work or away. Clear two-way talk turns this surveillance camera into your front-door intercom.

Network privacy and security

QuestLHSync’s headset component answers requests from anyone on the local network without authentication. According to the project, it sends bright-spot positions rather than camera images, along with camera calibration and the headset’s serial number, model and firmware. The project says camera reads happen only while a PC is connected and recommends using the software on a trusted network (QuestLHSync README). Consider who else can access that network before installing or connecting the service.

QuestLHSync versus SpaceCalibrator

Aspect QuestLHSync OpenVR-SpaceCalibrator
Calibration approach Uses headset camera observations of SteamVR 2.0 base-station flashes to align lighthouse devices. Its upstream README describes selecting a device from each tracking system, holding them together and moving them through different orientations.
Headset-mounted tracker Project says one is not needed for this workflow. Its described procedure pairs devices from the two tracking systems; the cited README does not establish a directly comparable no-mounted-tracker claim.
Base-station generation Requires SteamVR 2.0; version 1.0 is unsupported. Not stated in the cited README.
Setup and compatibility Steam Frame uses a user-level installation; documented Quest support requires Magisk root. Quest Pro is identified as tested, while Quest 3 and 3S are untried. Not stated in the cited README.
Movement and drift No independently measured accuracy or comparative drift result is established. The README warns that extensive movement around a room can produce nontrivial drift between systems.

Sources: QuestLHSync README and OpenVR-SpaceCalibrator README. This is a comparison of documented methods and caveats, not an independent performance test. Neither source establishes that QuestLHSync is more accurate.

What the documentation does—and does not—establish

The project documentation describes how QuestLHSync is intended to work and which setups it lists. It does not establish independently tested Steam Frame performance, measured accuracy or a benchmark against SpaceCalibrator. If accuracy is the deciding factor, the available documentation does not support a numerical expectation or a performance verdict.
