Use browser.newPage() to create a page in Puppeteer’s default browser context. To give a page its own session boundary—or to group pages that share one—create a BrowserContext first and call context.newPage(). Page options choose a tab or window; they do not launch the browser.
Create a page in the default browser context
The shortest route is:
const page = await browser.newPage();This creates a page in the browser’s default context. Use it when sharing that context’s session is acceptable. The browser must already have been launched or connected to; page creation is a separate step.

Create a page with an independent session
For separate cookies and local storage, create a context and then create the page inside it:

Choose the default context when sharing the browser’s default session is intended. Choose a separate context when storage isolation or a single cleanup boundary matters. These are behavioral choices, not documented performance rankings.
Choose a tab or a window
Puppeteer’s CreatePageOptions allows a tab or a window. Omit type or set it to 'tab' for a tab. Set it to 'window' to request a window; that form can also specify windowBounds. Either form can include background.

});The window form is for cases where a distinct window or particular window bounds are needed. For ordinary page automation, a tab is the straightforward choice. These are creation options, not browser launch settings. Consult the CreatePageOptions reference for the installed Puppeteer version: the reference surfaced as version 25.10.0, while related API pages surfaced as 25.12.0.

Puppeteer does not need to start the browser process itself. You can launch a browser, or connect to an existing browser, and then create pages in it. The launch-or-connect decision is independent of whether you use browser.newPage() or context.newPage(). See the browser management guide and connect API for those browser lifecycle paths.

Keep page, context, and browser lifetimes distinct: closing a context closes its pages; browser.close() closes the browser and associated pages. When Puppeteer is connected to an externally managed browser, disconnecting detaches Puppeteer without shutting down that browser.
