Locator.fill() takes a string or boolean plus an optional options object. The method reference identified as Puppeteer 25.12.0 documents text-like fields and boolean filling for checkboxes, radio buttons, and switches. The only detailed LocatorFillOptions property in the references covered here—typingThreshold—is documented on Puppeteer’s /next/ page, so check the reference for your installed release before using it.
What Locator.fill() accepts
The Puppeteer 25.12.0 method reference gives this signature:
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
fill<ElementType extends Element>(
this: Locator<ElementType>,
value: string | boolean,
options?: Readonly<LocatorFillOptions>,
): Promise<void>
The locator identifies the element to fill. Puppeteer determines the element type at runtime and chooses a fill method appropriate to the documented target type. See the Locator.fill() API reference.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems- Pass a string to fill a supported
input,textarea,select, orcontenteditableelement. - Pass a boolean for the documented checkbox, radio-button, and switch cases.
This is not a promise that any custom-styled widget will respond like a native form control. For a custom control outside these documented types, use an interaction supported by that widget.

How to fill text or set a boolean state
Call fill() on a locator and pass the value that matches the target. The examples below use the standard Puppeteer page locator API.
Fill a text field
import puppeteer from 'puppeteer';
const browser = await puppeteer.launch();
try {
const page = await browser.newPage();
await page.goto('https://example.com/form');
await page.locator('input[name="email"]').fill('[email protected]');
} finally {
await browser.close();
}
Replace the example URL and selector with the page and field you need. A string is also the value type for supported textareas, selects, and contenteditable elements.

- Screen Size: 11.6"
Set a checkbox, radio button, or switch
await page.locator('input[type="checkbox"]').fill(true);
Use a boolean for these documented boolean-state controls. Do not substitute a string such as 'true' when the method expects the boolean case.

What the optional fill options do
The released-version method reference exposes an optional Readonly<LocatorFillOptions> argument, but the detailed property described in the material here is on Puppeteer’s next-version API page. That page lists typingThreshold?: number, with a documented default of 100. It describes the threshold as the number of characters to type before switching to a faster fill-out method. See the next-version LocatorFillOptions reference.

- 15" FHD IPS Display, Intel UHD Graphics
- 1x USB Type C, 1 x USB Type A, 1x Headphone/Microphone Combo Jack, HDMI
- Fast WiFi and Bluetooth, Integrated Webcam
- Chrome OS, AC Charger Included, Pastel Silver
Because this is a /next/ reference, do not assume the option exists or behaves identically in every released Puppeteer version. Confirm the API documentation matching your installed version.
// Example using the option documented on Puppeteer's /next/ reference:
await page.locator('input[name="email"]').fill('[email protected]', {
typingThreshold: 100,
});
When using a release whose behavior matches that reference, explicitly passing 100 is generally unnecessary because it is the documented default. The reference describes a switch to a faster fill-out method; it does not establish a performance guarantee or specify additional event behavior.

Timeouts and locator retries are separate from fill options
Locator actions retry when the target is not ready, and Puppeteer checks preconditions automatically. The Locator API also provides controls for waiting for enabled elements, ensuring the element is in the viewport, and waiting for a stable bounding box. See the Locator class reference.
To configure the overall time allowed for locator actions, use setTimeout():

const emailField = page
.locator('input[name="email"]')
.setTimeout(10_000);
await emailField.fill('[email protected]');
setTimeout(timeout) returns a cloned locator with that timeout. Zero disables the locator timeout; the documented default is Page.getDefaultTimeout(). This is a locator control, not evidence of a timeout property on LocatorFillOptions. See the Locator.setTimeout() reference.
Troubleshoot a fill that waits or fails
- Check the selector and target type. Confirm the locator resolves to the intended supported input, textarea, select, contenteditable, checkbox, radio button, or switch. A custom widget may require its own interaction pattern.
- Check readiness before changing the value. Since locator actions retry when the target is not ready, inspect whether the page has rendered the element and whether automatic preconditions can be satisfied.
- Review the timeout configuration. Check the locator’s configured timeout and the page default. A longer timeout changes how long the locator action can wait; it does not add a timeout field to fill options.
- Verify the installed-version API. If Puppeteer rejects
typingThreshold, check whether the matching version documents it; the detailed property cited here belongs to the next-version reference.

If your goal is to capture a page rather than automate form entry, ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. Its screenshot endpoint accepts a URL in one GET request and can return PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF. Cookie banners, popups, and chat widgets are removed before capture; bot checks, blank pages, and failed loads are not billed. Its MCP server lets AI agents take screenshots. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card, and paid plans start at $5 for 3,000.
