Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsTo include lazy-loaded images in a full-page Puppeteer screenshot, scroll through the page to trigger its loading behavior, wait for images to load, return to the top, and capture with fullPage: true. A navigation wait such as networkidle2 alone does not guarantee that images below the fold have loaded.
Why a full-page capture can still miss images
Puppeteer’s page.screenshot() captures a page, and fullPage: true requests the full page rather than just the viewport. The documented default for fullPage is false. Neither setting triggers lazy loading by itself. Pages may load images only when they approach the viewport, so a capture taken immediately after navigation can include empty image areas.

Puppeteer provides scrolling and waiting primitives; the website determines what triggers its lazy content. Native lazy-loaded images, intersection observers, application code, and CSS background images may behave differently. A scroll-and-check workflow is therefore a practical strategy, not a universal guarantee.

A robust scroll, verify, and capture workflow
The example below uses Puppeteer’s JavaScript API. It scrolls in viewport-sized increments, waits for images that have entered the viewport, repeats the pass if loading images lengthen the document, and checks image elements before capturing. It returns to the top before taking the full-page screenshot.
Save as screenshot.js, install Puppeteer with npm install puppeteer, then run node screenshot.js https://example.com. Replace the example URL with a page you are authorized to access.

What the checks do—and do not—prove
- The scroll pass brings viewport-triggered content near the viewport, giving common lazy-loading implementations a chance to request images.
- For image elements,
completeand a nonzeronaturalWidthare useful signals that an image loaded successfully. The sample logs those that are not confirmed. - The five-second per-image wait is a timeout, not proof that an image will load within that time. Adjust it for the target site and the runtime budget.
- Checking
document.imagesdoes not cover CSS background images, canvas content, or every custom rendering strategy. Inspect the target page if those matter. - Repeated passes help when image loading expands the document, but the example caps passes at three to avoid an unbounded loop on pages that keep changing.
Choose a navigation wait without mistaking it for image readiness
waitUntil controls when page.goto() considers navigation ready. Puppeteer documents network-idle conditions using a 500 ms idle interval: networkidle0 waits for zero active connections, while networkidle2 permits up to two. These can be useful navigation checkpoints, but neither means every lazy image has loaded.
Recommended Free Tools
| Wait condition | Meaning | When it may help |
|---|---|---|
networkidle0 |
No active network connections for at least 500 ms. | When the page becomes genuinely quiet after navigation; may time out on pages with persistent connections. |
networkidle2 |
No more than two active network connections for at least 500 ms. | Often more tolerant of pages with a small amount of ongoing activity. |
These definitions are documented in Puppeteer’s PuppeteerLifeCycleEvent reference, WaitForNetworkIdleOptions reference, and WaitForOptions reference. If either condition is unsuitable for a particular site, use another navigation checkpoint and retain the explicit scroll-and-image checks.

Common problems and fixes
The screenshot has blank areas below the fold
The page may not have been scrolled far enough to trigger its loading behavior, or the screenshot may have run before requests completed. Scroll through the full document, wait on visible image elements, and repeat the pass if the document height grows. If the site uses custom observers or CSS backgrounds, inspect its specific loading mechanism; an image-element check cannot verify those cases.
networkidle0 or networkidle2 times out
Persistent connections or continuing page activity can prevent a network-idle condition. Try networkidle2 if waiting for zero connections is too strict, or choose a different navigation wait and rely on page-specific readiness checks after navigation. Do not treat a successful network-idle wait as confirmation that all lazy content is present.

The page gets taller while scrolling
Images or other content may change layout as they load. Measure the document height after a pass and scroll again if it increased. Keep a pass limit or another stopping condition because pages with infinite scrolling may keep adding content indefinitely.

The request may have failed, the image may not have been activated by the page’s loading logic, or it may not be a normal image element. The output is still only a viewport
Confirm the capture call includes fullPage: true and that the page has finished expanding before capture. Puppeteer documents the default as false, so omitting the option produces a viewport screenshot.
Or skip the browser setup
If you need a screenshot without maintaining a Puppeteer browser workflow, ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. Its one-call API accepts a URL and can return PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF output. For a full-page capture, use the documented full-page option; see the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request parameters and current behavior.
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://example.com -o shot.webp
ScreenshotNeo accepts cookie or consent banners and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each of those steps can be turned off. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and response headers report the page verdict and billing status. Its MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf tools for AI agents and MCP clients. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots per month without a card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does Puppeteer automatically load every lazy image when taking a full-page screenshot?
No. fullPage: true controls screenshot dimensions; it does not guarantee lazy content has been triggered or rendered.
Can I use the same approach for images loaded by CSS?
The sample verifies HTML image elements only. CSS background images and other custom content require checks suited to the page’s implementation.
