Neither should be treated as a proven treatment for stress, anxiety, insomnia, or another health condition. Choose between them based on the sensation and routine you are comfortable with—not on a claim that one has been shown to work better.
How Pulsetto and Sensate work—and where they sit
| Device | Placement and mechanism | What the routine feels like |
|---|---|---|
| Pulsetto | A neck-worn device that sends electrical impulses through the skin. Wareable describes the Pulsetto Lite as a non-invasive transcutaneous cervical vagus nerve stimulation device, with electrodes positioned at the neck. The TU Delft thesis also describes bilateral electrical impulses through the skin of the neck. Wareable · TU Delft repository | Electrical stimulation at the neck, typically used upright and hands-free. |
| Sensate | A device placed on the chest that produces vibration in time with audio from its companion app. Wareable says it does not electrically stimulate the vagus nerve in the way Pulsetto does. Wareable | Vibration and sound during a more reclined, audio-led wind-down. |
So, Sensate does not stimulate the vagus nerve like Pulsetto: it uses chest vibration synchronized with sound rather than electrical stimulation at the neck. The devices are not interchangeable versions of the same technique.

Which routine is a better fit?
Choose Pulsetto if you prefer a short, hands-free session
Pulsetto’s manufacturer describes its sessions as about four minutes, compared with about ten minutes for Sensate. Those are approximate brand-reported routine lengths, updated in the manufacturer’s June 2026 comparison; actual duration can vary by model and program. Pulsetto’s comparison
Pulsetto is intended for upright, hands-free use. It may suit someone who wants a brief routine and is comfortable with electrical stimulation around the neck. Check the manual for the exact device model: the TU Delft thesis describes five settings with different parameters on the unit it studied, but those details should not be assumed to apply to every current version.

Choose Sensate if you want a sound-led wind-down

Tom’s Guide described an individual Sensate session on the sternum lasting 10–30 minutes with a soundscape; that is one writer’s use, not a universal setting or a comparative test. Tom’s Guide
In practical terms, the decision is whether you would rather feel electrical stimulation at the neck or vibration while listening to audio. Neither mechanism has been established by the cited material as a reliably superior way to achieve a health outcome.

What the evidence can—and cannot—tell you
The available device studies are small and have important limitations. Pulsetto’s official comparison cites an INLITA randomized, open-label pilot with 40 participants and states that it is not peer-reviewed. That is preliminary evidence, not proof of effectiveness. Pulsetto’s comparison

A TU Delft thesis reported no clinical evidence supporting Pulsetto’s marketed effects as of the thesis’s research period. That earlier assessment and Pulsetto’s later citation of a pilot are different evidence snapshots; the thesis did not assess that later material. TU Delft repository No independent, directly comparable head-to-head efficacy statistic is established in these sources.
Tom’s Guide also reported one writer’s before-and-after stress readings and sleep score after trying Sensate. Such personal observations are not controlled evidence and cannot show that the device caused a change or that other users will experience the same result. The article’s quoted neurologist said, “For the average healthy person, the answer is no: consumer vagus nerve stimulators are unnecessary.” That is the expert’s opinion as reported by Tom’s Guide, not a universal medical guideline. A practical decision checklist
- Prefer a brief, upright routine and accept neck-based electrical stimulation? Pulsetto is the closer fit.
- Prefer a chest-resting vibration device with audio in a reclined wind-down? Sensate is the closer fit.
- Want to minimize upkeep? Account for Pulsetto’s reported conductive-gel refills as well as any optional subscription.
- Buying for a health concern or have a relevant medical device, condition, or uncertainty? Review the current instructions and consult a qualified clinician before use.
- Expecting a proven treatment or a guaranteed sleep or stress result? The cited evidence does not support that expectation for either device.
