A reported leak puts the PlayStation 6 at 40 TFLOPS and Xbox Project Helix at 56 TFLOPS. If the estimates use comparable methods, that would give Helix a 40% higher theoretical compute figure—not prove it will run games 40% faster. Neither company has confirmed those numbers.
What do the leaked 40 and 56 TFLOPS figures mean?
VideoCardz reported on September 23, 2026, that hardware leaker KeplerL2 estimated 40 TFLOPS for PS6 and 56 TFLOPS for Project Helix. The figures remain unconfirmed; they are not specifications published by Sony or Microsoft. VideoCardz’s report describes them as rumor estimates.

TFLOPS—trillions of floating-point operations per second—is a theoretical measure of computing throughput. Comparing the reported numbers, 56 is 40% higher than 40. That arithmetic describes only the estimates: it assumes the figures were calculated on a comparable basis and says nothing by itself about frame rates, image quality, or how a game will feel to play.

Why TFLOPS cannot pick a gaming-performance winner
A single peak-compute figure leaves out how a console’s hardware and software work together. VideoCardz cautions that raw compute does not translate directly into game performance; TechRadar also points to architecture and memory bandwidth as relevant factors. TechRadar’s discussion of the estimates likewise treats TFLOPS as only one part of the comparison.

- GPU architecture and workload: Different designs can achieve different results even when their headline compute figures are close. Performance depends on the tasks a game asks the GPU to perform and how efficiently the architecture handles them.
- Memory: Capacity and bandwidth affect how quickly game assets and other data can be accessed. A TFLOPS estimate does not disclose either.
- Rendering features: Ray tracing, path tracing, AI features, and specialized accelerators can change performance by workload. A peak compute number does not reveal how fast a console handles these tasks.
- Upscaling and frame generation: These techniques can affect output resolution, apparent smoothness, image quality, and latency. A raw compute comparison does not capture those trade-offs.
- Games and optimization: Engines, settings, developer tools, and console-specific tuning influence results. A game benchmark is meaningful only when the systems are tested in the same game and under comparable settings.
For those reasons, the reported 40% compute gap cannot be translated into a percentage lead in actual games. The sources available do not establish an independently measured PS6-versus-Helix benchmark.
What Microsoft has confirmed about Project Helix
Microsoft’s official announcement is separate from the leak. In a March 11, 2026 Xbox Wire summary of its GDC announcement, Jason Ronald, Xbox vice president of next generation, described Project Helix as Microsoft’s next-generation first-party console. Microsoft said it is designed to play Xbox console and PC games, uses a custom AMD SoC, and is being developed with AMD on DirectX and FSR. The company also described ray-tracing ambitions and continued support for games from four Xbox generations.

Microsoft said it planned to ship alpha versions of the hardware to developers beginning in 2027. That is a plan for developer hardware, not a consumer release date, and it does not confirm Helix’s leaked TFLOPS estimate. The announcement does not provide a retail specification sheet.
Have Sony or Microsoft confirmed the leaked figures?
No. The reviewed sources do not establish a Sony-confirmed PS6 spec sheet or official TFLOPS figures for either console. Nor do they establish final memory configurations, retail prices, or consumer launch dates. Details sometimes associated with next-generation hardware, such as particular CPU or GPU architectures or memory types, should not be treated as settled specifications on the basis of these reports.

What to compare when reliable specifications and tests arrive
A useful performance comparison will need more than peak compute. Look for official hardware details and tests of the same games with comparable settings, alongside evidence about:
- GPU architecture and performance across different workloads;
- resolution and sustained frame rates in the same games;
- ray tracing and other specialized rendering performance;
- memory capacity and bandwidth;
- upscaling and frame-generation image quality and latency; and
- developer tools and game optimization.
Compatibility, game availability, and retail price will also matter when judging practical value, even though they are not measures of raw performance. Until official specifications and comparable game tests exist, the 40-versus-56 figures are a lead to watch—not a verdict on which console will be faster.
